PDO Thread Lift In North Bon Air, FL
A PDO thread lift repositions loose skin along the cheeks, jaw and jowls using absorbable sutures placed under the skin. The lift is there the day it is placed. At Formation, a board-certified surgeon reads which layer of your face is actually causing the problem before anyone books you a treatment slot.
What A PDO Thread Lift Moves, And What It Leaves Alone
A thread lift runs on two clocks. The first is mechanical. Barbed sutures pass through the tissue and draw it upward, so the cheek and jowl sit where they used to sit, and that part shows the same day. The second clock is slower. The threads are polydioxanone, an absorbable suture material used in surgery for decades, and as they break down over roughly six to nine months the body lays down collagen along the tracks they leave behind.
The two halves fail for different reasons, which is why they are worth separating. The mechanical half fails when there was too much skin to reposition in the first place. The collagen half fails when the skin doing the healing has little left to work with.
Threads are a refinement tool. They work on early to moderate laxity and they stop where real skin excess begins. Heavy loose tissue in the lower face, jowling that hangs past the jaw border, or a jaw angle that lost its bony shape will not respond, regardless of who places the threads or how many go in. Formation plans a non-surgical PDO thread lift in Tampa the way Dr. Grandhige plans contouring surgery, with the anatomy setting the pattern instead of a template.
One accuracy point. PDO threads are 510(k)-cleared Class II devices, not FDA-approved. FDA’s special controls guidance covers absorbable polydioxanone sutures cleared for soft tissue approximation. Only a small number of thread families carry a separate clearance for mid-face suspension. Ask any provider for the 510(k) number and the indication language of the specific threads they plan to use. If that question lands awkwardly, you have learned something.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Before Dr. Grandhige plans a thread pattern, he reads the jaw and neck in four layers and matches each one to its own solution. Threads answer exactly one of them. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once, which is why a single-tool plan so often disappoints.
Layer one, fat. Fat under the chin and along the jawline is a subtraction problem. Threads do not remove tissue, so lifting the skin above a fat pad changes very little. This layer belongs to neck and chin liposuction.
Layer two, the platysma. When vertical platysmal bands stand up on animation, the muscle has separated and needs to be held, not draped. That is where MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, paired with platysmaplasty does work a dissolving thread cannot. The contrast matters on this page: a nonabsorbable suture can be removed and stays where it was placed, while barbed absorbable threads are designed to disappear. Formation is building out a dedicated MyEllevate page, and until it publishes, bring the comparison up in consultation.
Layer three, the skin. This is the thread layer. Skin that springs back when released holds a lift longer than skin that settles slowly, and the honest elasticity window runs roughly skin ages 25 to 55. Energy-based tightening, using Renuvion, a helium plasma device, or FaceTite, a radiofrequency device, is the other tool that lives here. Descent that starts higher in the cheek is often better planned as a midface thread lift than as jawline work.
Layer four, the frame. Chin projection and jaw angle get assessed separately from soft tissue. A jawline that was never strongly built is a structural question, and no amount of suspension builds bone. Structural filler answers it, using Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, to add projection at the chin and angle. Patients who want a superhero jawline are usually describing this layer and not the skin above it. A dedicated page on structural filler for chin and jaw projection is in production.
Read all four before you buy one. Clear layers one, two and four toward normal, and threads have something real to hold.
What The 2026 Data Says About Complications
The most useful finding in the current literature is not a percentage. It is a split.
A meta-analysis published in March 2026 pooled 26 studies covering 2,827 thread lift patients and sorted adverse events by when they appear. Early events, inside the first four weeks, were swelling, bruising and pain. Swelling ran from 7 to 34 percent depending on the study, bruising pooled at 26 percent, pain at 11 percent. The authors describe these as largely self-limiting, and closer to an expected tissue response to thread insertion than to a true complication.
Late-onset events, the ones that persist past four weeks, are the ones that carry weight: visible or palpable threads at 10 percent, skin dimpling or asymmetry at 7 percent, thread exposure at 5 percent, paresthesia at 6 percent, and infection at 2 percent. Those are the events that may need a corrective procedure. Almost no clinic page separates the two, so patients brace for the wrong list.
The published limitation belongs here too, because it changes how you shop. The authors did not break their results down by thread material or technique, since most of the underlying studies never reported it, and heterogeneity for swelling and bruising hit 92 percent. So the brand of thread is not the variable the evidence can speak to. Placement depth, fixation and candidacy are, and none of those come out of a box.
The evidence does not support a precise number. A systematic review of absorbable facial thread lifts covering twelve studies and 818 patients found improvement in every study immediately after treatment, but the longest follow-up assessments in the entire body of literature reached two years, and the authors concluded that long-term efficacy data are lacking. The threads dissolve over roughly six to nine months. Anyone quoting a firm figure past that is going beyond what has been published.
Why North Bon Air Changes The Logistics, Not The Anatomy
Start with an address problem that catches North Bon Air patients specifically. North Bon Air sits north of Kennedy Boulevard, bounded by Interstate 275 to the north, Dale Mabry Highway to the east and the Westshore area to the west, served by ZIP codes 33607 and 33609. Bon Air is a separate neighborhood south of Kennedy. Map results blur the two constantly, so confirm the street address of any provider before you drive.
Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue, which from North Bon Air is Kennedy east to Howard, then south. Roughly two miles.
That distance is the actual local argument, and it connects directly to the data above. The complications worth catching surface after week four, which is exactly when most practices have closed the file. Two miles means a week-six or week-ten visit costs you twenty minutes instead of an afternoon, and Formation follows thread patients for a full year rather than stopping at six weeks. Proximity is not a convenience feature here. It is what makes the late-onset window observable at all.
Two more North Bon Air realities worth planning around. The Westshore office corridor sits on your western boundary and Tampa International is about three miles out, so visible bruising, not the lift, is what governs your calendar. With bruising near one in four, patients with a camera-facing week ahead schedule backward from the meeting, not forward from the appointment.
The first step does not require the drive at all. Formation offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you commit an afternoon. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, because it is a full surgical assessment rather than a sales meeting, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice.
One of the biggest misconceptions about liposuction? That the fat either “comes back” or simply moves somewhere else.
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated area. But it doesn’t remove every fat cell, and the cells that remain can still grow larger with weight gain.
That’s why long-term results aren’t just about what happens during the procedure. Maintaining a relatively stable weight helps preserve the contour created through liposuction.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in advanced high definition liposuction and body contouring, with an emphasis on creating results that complement each patient’s natural anatomy.

6 months post HD liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
HD liposuction can be customized based on anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition someone wants to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.

These lipo terms aren’t interchangeable.
Traditional liposuction, Lipo 360, and high-definition liposuction can all address unwanted fat, but the approach depends on what you’re actually trying to change.
Maybe it’s one stubborn area that hasn’t responded to diet and exercise.
Maybe the goal is creating better proportion throughout the entire midsection.
Or maybe you’re already lean and looking for more visible, athletic definition.
Those are different goals, and they call for different treatment plans.

1 Month Post-Op Transformation! 💥
Fixing previous surgical outcomes requires precision, expertise, and a tailored approach.
Here’s how Dr. Grandhige transformed this patient’s core and chest:
The Challenge:
Previous tummy tuck left uneven abdominal fat distribution
High scar placement creating a visible “shelf” effect
The Solution:
HD Liposculpture to refine and sculpt a athletic, masculine core and chest
Scar Revision to eliminate the shelf-like appearance and create a smoother profile
Keep in mind, at just 1 month post-op, swelling is still settling and we are nowhere near final results! Can’t wait to see this shape mature over the next few months. 🔥

What makes this journey even more special is where it began. Two years ago, this patient came to us wanting change but wasn’t quite ready for the operating table. Instead of rushing, we partnered with her for the long haul. Through the strategic use of GLP-1 therapy, dedicated nutrition guidance, and mindset coaching, she completely transformed her health to get to where she is today.
While she is already looking incredible, it’s important to remember that residual swelling and inflammation are completely normal at this stage. Healing takes time, but the foundation for an amazing result is officially set!
We are so incredibly honored to be a part of every patient`s unique journey, and we are committed to being with you every single step of the way.

Preparation And Recovery: The Other Forty Percent
Dr. Grandhige works from a rule he carried over from general surgery, and it is the standard every Formation plan is built on. The procedure accounts for about 60 percent of the result. The care around it accounts for the other 40. Incorrect aftercare undoes well-executed placement, which is why recovery here is managed rather than handed to you on a printout.
That number cuts backward as well as forward. Health and diet are assessed before treatment, and nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window immediately before and immediately after, so the body builds as much structure as it is capable of building while the material is still there to build around. Protein intake, inflammation control and lymphatic flow are dialed in as part of the plan, and the providers who deliver that support were vetted personally rather than assembled from whoever was available. You can read more about how Formation approaches care as a system rather than a procedure.
The threads themselves are the same threads available at any med spa on Dale Mabry. What differs is the thinking wrapped around them.
The First Week
Mild swelling, some bruising and a tight pulling sensation are normal early. The soreness reads more like a hard training session in the face than sharp pain. Sleep on your back with the head raised so nothing presses on treated tissue. Skip facial massage entirely. Most patients are back at work and out socially at one week, and hard training waits that same week so the threads settle into position first.
Week Four Onward
Early swelling and bruising are gone by roughly this point, and the window that matters opens. Collagen forms along the thread tracks and firmness keeps improving, while any late-onset issue would declare itself here rather than in week one. This is the stretch where being seen actually changes the outcome, and where a year of follow-up earns its keep.
When Threads Are The Wrong Tool
Threads reposition tissue. They do not remove it and they do not build bone. Three situations put them out of scope.
Heavy skin excess in the lower face is the clearest. Lifting excess skin creates tension where you wanted shape, and tension is the look people recognize as work. Patients past what suspension can reach are referred outward, and Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do skin-excision work well rather than talking someone into the procedure that happens to be on the menu.
Fat is the second. One Formation patient, a fit professional in their forties who had disliked their profile in photographs for years, had a jawline that never responded to weight loss because the problem was never laxity. The answer there was jawline and neck contouring, not a lift. Colleagues told them afterward that they looked more rested. Nobody guessed why.
Frame is the third, and it sends you back to layer four rather than to a suspension plan.
Saying no is unusual in aesthetics. The wrong procedure performed well is still the wrong procedure.
What Stacked Rounds Leave Behind
Threads do not vanish without a trace, and this is the part clinic pages skip.
The fibrous tissue that forms along the thread tracks is not a side effect. It is the mechanism, and it is what keeps supporting the tissue after the polydioxanone is gone. The same fibrosis also makes those tissue planes less predictable to work in surgically. One conservative round is a minor variable. Several stacked rounds are a larger one.
If a surgical lift is anywhere in your long-range thinking, the number of rounds you accumulate between now and then belongs in the plan, and you should disclose prior thread work to any surgeon who later operates on that face. Dr. Grandhige’s background in complex surgery is why this comes up in a thread consultation rather than years later. A surgeon who has operated in scarred planes reads the ten-year picture differently than someone who has only placed threads.
A Male Jawline Needs A Different Pattern
Male faces need a different thread pattern, and male aesthetics is one of the areas Dr. Grandhige is specifically known for. Male skin is thicker, fat sits differently, and a masculine jaw should read angular rather than lifted and softened. A pattern designed for a female midface will feminize a male one, which is the outcome most men walk in trying to avoid.
The rule is the one he applies in male body contouring, where small over-corrections create an artificial result: do what is necessary and stop. PDO thread lifts for men at Formation are planned to that standard.
Who Plans Your Treatment
Dr. Gopal Grandhige, MD is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery, with over 15 years of operating experience and several thousand surgical procedures behind him.
He attended medical school at the University of Michigan and matched into a six-year combined plastic surgery residency at Yale before changing course toward a broader surgical education. He completed a full general surgery residency followed by fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery, and he is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Years spent where wound healing, inflammation and tissue behavior carried immediate consequences change how a face gets read for a thread pattern.
Formation stays boutique deliberately. Surgical volume is limited on purpose so Dr. Grandhige evaluates every patient himself and designs every plan himself. Some patients are told to wait, some are told the answer is a different layer, and some are told the answer is not here at all.
The Bottom Line For North Bon Air Patients
For the right candidate, a PDO thread lift restores cheek and jawline position with a fraction of the downtime surgery requires. It is not a facelift and it is not permanent. The complications the 2026 evidence flags as meaningful arrive after week four, not in week one, and the literature cannot tell you which brand of thread is better because it was never reported that way.
Two miles from your neighborhood, that follow-up window is easy to cover. The decision worth making carefully is not which clinic ranks first. It is which of the four layers is actually causing what you see in the mirror. Start with the complimentary virtual evaluation, get that answer, and book the treatment only if threads are the tool that layer calls for.
Take The Next Step
Use the form below to request your consultation and the team will follow up to schedule you. If you are in North Bon Air and you want a clear answer on which layer is causing your jawline to soften, that answer is available before you drive down Howard. If threads are the wrong tool for your face, you will hear that too.
Frequently Asked Questions
The evidence does not support a precise number. A systematic review of absorbable facial thread lifts covering twelve studies and 818 patients found improvement in every study immediately after treatment, but the longest follow-up assessments in the entire body of literature reached two years, and the authors concluded that long-term efficacy data are lacking. The threads dissolve over roughly six to nine months. Anyone quoting a firm figure past that is going beyond what has been published.
No, and the wording matters. They are 510(k)-cleared Class II devices. Most PDO thread products are cleared for soft tissue approximation, and only a small number carry a separate clearance for mid-face suspension. Clearance means substantial equivalence to a device already on the market, not a trial proving a cosmetic result.
The ones that persist past four weeks. Swelling, bruising and soreness in the first month are common and self-limiting. Visible or palpable threads, skin dimpling or asymmetry, thread exposure and persistent numbness are the events that may need correction, and each of those sits in the single digits to about ten percent in the pooled 2026 data.
Done conservatively, no. People register that you look sharper or better rested without identifying the cause. What makes a thread lift obvious is tension, and tension usually means threads were placed where the real problem was excess skin rather than skin position.
Age is a proxy for elasticity, which is the thing that actually decides it. The workable window runs roughly skin ages 25 to 55, and the recoil test in consultation tells you more than the number on your license. Outside that window, the honest answer is usually a different layer.
Yes, with planning. Dissolving threads leave fibrous tissue along their tracks, and that fibrosis is both how the lift holds and why those planes are less predictable to operate in afterward. One conservative round is a minor factor. Several stacked rounds are a larger one, which is why the count belongs in the conversation now and in the disclosure to any future surgeon.
No. The complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you drive anywhere. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee because it is a full surgical assessment, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice.
Added volume works against tissue the threads are holding in position, which shortens how long the lift reads well. Stable weight protects the result the same way it protects any contouring result.
