PDO Thread Lift In Rattlesnake, FL
A PDO thread lift places fine, dissolvable sutures with tiny barbs under the skin of the jawline, jowls, cheeks or neck. The barbs lift mildly loose skin the day they go in, and the threads keep stimulating collagen while they absorb. At Formation, Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs the treatment himself under local anesthesia, and results typically last 12 to 18 months.
Our first four-legged patient. 🐾
Dr. Gopal takes his liposuction and body contouring very seriously.
Even when his patients have four legs.
From loose skin and neck liposuction to a jawline that deserves its own before-and-after reveal, this might be his most dramatic transformation yet.
And yes, he even got the patient’s permission to share the results. 😂
A little Halloween fun from Dr. Gopal and his two very patient pups! 🎃🐶

What weight loss can’t fix.
After losing over 100 pounds, this patient had achieved significant weight loss, but was left with excess skin around his abdomen and back that weight loss alone couldn’t address.
During an 8-hour surgery, Dr. Gopal performed a circumferential body lift, a procedure that removes excess skin around the entire midsection to improve body contour.
In this video, Dr. Gopal walks through the procedure, explaining how he removed approximately 3 pounds of skin from the back and estimated another 4–5 pounds would be removed from the abdomen.
He’s also using a small amount of fat collected during the procedure to add volume to the upper chest, improving its contour without performing a separate chest lift.
For patients who have experienced major weight loss, body contouring can help address the excess skin that remains after the weight is gone.

Only 3 months after surgery. And still healing.
This patient had previously undergone a tummy tuck but wanted to improve his abdominal contour, create more definition, and address the appearance of his existing scar.
Dr. Gopal combined several body contouring techniques, including HD liposuction, skin tightening with Renuvion, fat transfer to the chest, and revision of the previous tummy tuck scar.
The result so far? A more defined abdomen, improved body contours, and a revised scar that’s still in the early stages of healing.
At just three months after surgery, these aren’t the final results. Swelling can continue to decrease, and scars typically soften and fade as healing progresses.

Your fat is liquid gold.
The fat you don’t want might be exactly what another part of your body needs.
During liposuction, the fat we remove doesn’t always have to be discarded. In fact, Dr. Gopal refers to it as “liquid gold.”
Why? Because that fat can sometimes be transferred to another area of the body to add volume, enhance natural contours, and create a more balanced shape.
For women, that might mean adding volume to the breasts, hips, or buttocks. For men, fat transfer can help enhance the chest or shoulders.
And because we’re using your own fat, we can potentially improve two areas during the same surgery.
Of course, fat transfer isn’t right for everyone. It’s something Dr. Gopal discusses with patients beforehand and incorporates into the surgical plan when appropriate.

Cosmetic surgery isn’t just cosmetic.
We often measure the success of plastic surgery by what we can see in before-and-after photos. But some of the most meaningful changes happen in ways a photograph can’t capture.
How someone feels about themselves. The confidence they carry into everyday life. The freedom of no longer feeling uncomfortable in their own skin.
For Dr. Gopal, that’s what makes this work so meaningful.
A patient who underwent body contouring in 2025 recently reached out to share how much the experience continues to mean to her.
She didn’t talk about measurements or how her body looked. She talked about how much better her days had become.
And that’s something Dr. Gopal has always believed: Cosmetic surgery isn’t simply about changing how someone looks. It’s about understanding what that change means to the person choosing it.

A flatter stomach without a tummy tuck? 👀
Pregnancy, and sometimes increased pressure from fat deep inside the abdomen, can cause the abdominal muscles to separate down the middle. This is called diastasis recti, and it can make your belly stick out even if you’re otherwise lean.
Traditionally, repairing that separation often meant undergoing a tummy tuck. But what if you don’t have much loose skin to remove?
For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can use robotic-assisted surgery to bring those separated muscles back together through three small incisions, without the long scar associated with a traditional tummy tuck.
That’s exactly what he did for the patient in these before-and-after photos. No tummy tuck. No additional procedures.
**But this approach isn’t for everyone.** If you have significant loose skin or excess fat, a different treatment may be more appropriate. That’s why understanding what’s causing your belly to protrude matters before deciding on surgery.

Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery?
After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma.
In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair.
This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.

The fat is gone. But what takes its place?
When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma.
And here’s why that matters.
If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour.
That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.

Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.
One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.
Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.
Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.
By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally.
For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.
Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.

What A Thread Lift Can Reach, And What It Can’t
A thread lift repositions skin. It doesn’t remove fat, flatten muscle bands or add projection to the chin and jaw. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once, so Dr. Grandhige checks every layer before he recommends threads. Formation calls this the Four-Layer Neck Read, and it decides whether threads belong in your plan at all.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Layer one is fat. Fullness under the jaw that never responded to diet or training is a fat problem, and neck liposuction is the tool for it. One Formation patient, a fit professional in his 40s, had always looked heavier through the neck than the rest of his body suggested. He hated seeing himself in pictures. Neck liposuction with jawline contouring corrected what no thread could, and today he smiles more and gets in the photo.
Layer two is the platysma muscle. When platysmal bands show as vertical cords down the front of the neck, a dissolving thread won’t hold them flat. That calls for a different suture, covered below.
Layer three is skin. This is where threads work: mild to moderate laxity along the jawline and jowls in skin that still responds to a lift. When the skin needs tightening from underneath more than it needs lifting, FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted skin tightening device, is the other option at this layer.
Layer four is the frame: chin projection and jaw angle. A soft jawline sometimes comes from a short chin, not loose skin. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, and Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, add structure there. A thread can’t build a chin.
When Skin Needs More Than A Thread
Threads suit mild to moderate laxity. They can’t stand in for a facelift, and if your skin needs that level of lift, Dr. Grandhige will say so at the consultation. Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do facelift-level work well and points you to the right one. He would rather tell you no than place threads that can’t deliver what you came in for.
Two Timelines Inside Every Thread Lift
A thread lift runs on two clocks, and most descriptions blur them into one. The first is mechanical. The barbs catch the tissue and lift it the day the threads go in, so you see a change before you leave the office. The second is biological. Over the following months the threads stimulate collagen and elastin for up to about six months, and then they absorb.
That means the lift you see in week one and the result you keep at month twelve come from different sources. As the threads dissolve, the mechanical hold goes with them, and your own collagen carries what’s left. How much collagen your body builds is the part no one can promise. Time anything with a camera, such as a wedding or a reunion, for after the early swelling settles. Expect a conversation about maintenance treatments as the 12 to 18 month mark approaches.
Preparing Your Body For The Second Clock
Because collagen does the long-term work, Formation treats preparation as part of the treatment. Your health and diet are assessed before the threads go in. In the window right before and after, nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted so your body builds as much new structure around each thread as it can.
This follows the same philosophy behind every Formation procedure, summed up in the 60/40 Recovery Standard: the procedure is 60 percent of the result, and the care after it is the other 40. A PDO thread is the same thread at every practice that buys it. The thinking around it isn’t.
Dissolving Threads Vs. A Permanent Suture
PDO threads dissolve, so the lift is temporary by design. That suits skin-level sagging. It’s the wrong match when platysmal bands are the problem, because threads don’t correct the muscle that creates them.
When bands are present, Formation’s answer is platysmaplasty with MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture. The differences are concrete. MyEllevate is nonabsorbable and can be removed, while PDO threads absorb on their own and aren’t meant to come out. MyEllevate’s lift is present the day it’s placed, and the suture doesn’t dissolve. A thread lift gives you lift on day one and then hands the job to your collagen. If you picture booking a repeat thread lift every year to manage a banded neck, raise that at your consultation, because a permanent option may fit better.
Know one regulatory detail before you book anywhere. PDO threads are polydioxanone sutures that reach the market through FDA 510(k) clearance, which means cleared, not approved. Ask which thread brand will be placed and look up its clearance in the FDA 510(k) database. Any practice should be able to name the product on the spot.
Your Visit And Recovery From Rattlesnake
A thread lift fits inside a weekday. Placement typically takes under fifteen minutes with local anesthesia, and most patients return to normal activities almost immediately.
Getting To Formation
Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue, Suite 102, about four miles northeast of Rattlesnake as the crow flies. You can make the drive entirely on surface streets in South Tampa, with no bridge to cross. With a short appointment on the other end, the visit doesn’t have to cost you a full day.
The Appointment
Dr. Gopal Grandhige evaluates you himself and identifies where lift is needed along the jawline, jowls, cheeks or neck. The area is numbed with local anesthesia, and he places the threads beneath the skin through fine cannulas. Most patients describe pressure rather than pain.
Patients often share worries with Formation’s staff that they never mention to the surgeon, such as whether coworkers will be able to tell. The staff passes those concerns to Dr. Grandhige so he can answer them before you have to ask.
The First Two Weeks
Expect mild swelling, bruising or temporary tightness that typically settles within a few days. For one to two weeks, skip strenuous exercise and abrupt facial movements, and hold off on facial massages while the threads settle. Sleep on your back for the first few nights. If your weekends start at the Gandy Boat Ramp, book the treatment so a long day on the water doesn’t fall inside that first stretch.
What To Call About
Thread lifts are minimally invasive, not risk-free. Beyond expected swelling and bruising, a thread can sometimes be seen or felt under the skin, cause dimpling or puckering, shift position, work its way out or become infected. Many thread lift pages stop at swelling and bruising. You should see the full list before you book. Call the office rather than wait if you notice a thread end, a dimple that isn’t softening, or redness and warmth that build after the first few days.
Why A Surgeon Places Your Threads
Dr. Grandhige’s view of jawline work is that results depend more on judgment, anatomy and restraint than on the procedure itself. That applies to threads as much as to surgery.
He is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. He trained at the University of Michigan Medical School and at Yale, completed a full general surgery residency, then finished fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. He has performed surgery for more than 15 years across several thousand procedures. He limits his volume so he stays involved before, during and after treatment.
That training shows up as restraint. Most Formation patients want people to notice them, not the work. Dr. Grandhige personally evaluates every patient, and sometimes the right recommendation is a different procedure, a later date or nothing at all.
Frequently Asked Questions About PDO Thread Lifts
Results typically last 12 to 18 months. The threads stimulate collagen for up to about six months before they absorb, and that collagen carries the result once the threads are gone. Maintenance treatments can extend it.
No. Fullness under the chin that won’t respond to diet is usually fat, which is layer one of the Four-Layer Neck Read. Threads lift skin and don’t remove fat. Neck liposuction with jawline contouring treats that layer, and Dr. Grandhige will tell you at the consultation which layer is driving what you see.
The area is numbed with local anesthesia first, and most patients describe pressure rather than pain. Afterward, expect mild swelling, bruising or tightness for a few days.
Wait one to two weeks before strenuous exercise or abrupt facial movements. Normal daily activities can usually resume almost immediately. Skip facial massages while the threads settle.
Swelling and bruising are expected. Less often, a thread can become visible or palpable, cause dimpling, shift, work its way out or become infected. Call the office about any of these instead of waiting.
PDO threads aren’t designed to come out. They absorb on their own. When removability matters, as with platysmal bands, MyEllevate is a nonabsorbable suture placed with platysmaplasty, and it can be removed.
Threads suit mild to moderate laxity. If your skin needs more lift than a thread can give, Dr. Grandhige will say so, and Formation will point you to a surgeon who does facelift-level work well.
About four miles northeast as the crow flies. Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue, Suite 102, reachable on surface streets with no bridge to cross, and the office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Your Next Step From Rattlesnake
Rattlesnake grew up around George End’s 1930s rattlesnake cannery at Gandy Boulevard and Bridge Street. The cannery closed, the post office took the name Interbay after Tampa annexed the area, and the land south of the bridge still goes by Rattlesnake Point. If that’s home, your thread lift decision comes down to three questions. Which layer is sagging? Which of the two timelines are you counting on? And does a dissolving thread or a permanent suture fit your neck?
Before you book anywhere, follow Dr. Grandhige’s own advice and look for results where the before photo resembles you now. His gallery is a good place to start. Then begin with a complimentary virtual evaluation with Hanna, or book the in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige, where the fee applies toward any procedure or product at Formation. Use the form below to request either one.
