Neck And Jawline Contouring In Palmetto Beach, FL
Neck and jawline contouring removes the fat under your chin and tightens the skin over it, so your jaw and neck meet at a clean angle again. Formation performs it in the office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, and most patients are back at work in a week.
What Neck and Jawline Contouring Does
Contouring targets the fullness under the chin and along the jaw that diet and training won’t move. It’s one of the most genetic areas of the body, so lean, active people carry it too. Left alone, it makes a face read heavier, older or more tired than the person behind it feels.
Dr. Grandhige calls jawline work one of the most underestimated procedures in aesthetic surgery. Done well, it changes how people read your face without anyone pinning down why.
One Formation patient, a fit professional in his 40s, had carried fullness under his chin his whole life and hated how he looked in photos. Weight loss never touched it. After targeted neck liposuction with jawline contouring, colleagues told him he looked rested. He said his neck finally matched the rest of his body, and he started stepping into pictures again. You can see more results in Formation’s before and after gallery.
A flatter stomach without a tummy tuck? 👀
Pregnancy, and sometimes increased pressure from fat deep inside the abdomen, can cause the abdominal muscles to separate down the middle. This is called diastasis recti, and it can make your belly stick out even if you’re otherwise lean.
Traditionally, repairing that separation often meant undergoing a tummy tuck. But what if you don’t have much loose skin to remove?
For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can use robotic-assisted surgery to bring those separated muscles back together through three small incisions, without the long scar associated with a traditional tummy tuck.
That’s exactly what he did for the patient in these before-and-after photos. No tummy tuck. No additional procedures.
**But this approach isn’t for everyone.** If you have significant loose skin or excess fat, a different treatment may be more appropriate. That’s why understanding what’s causing your belly to protrude matters before deciding on surgery.

Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery?
After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma.
In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair.
This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.

The fat is gone. But what takes its place?
When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma.
And here’s why that matters.
If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour.
That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.

Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.
One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.
Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.
Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.
By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally.
For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.
Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.

Six hours. Hundreds of decisions.
High-definition liposuction is as much about precision as it is about technique.
Dr. Gopal can spend 6–7 hours on a single HD liposuction procedure, carefully evaluating the body’s anatomy, refining muscle definition, and making sure each contour transitions naturally into the next.
And that level of attention doesn’t change as the hours go by.
Because the final result is shaped by hundreds of small decisions made throughout the procedure.

This is not your typical liposuction. 👀
Most people think liposuction is simply about removing unwanted fat. But high-definition liposuction takes a different approach.
Before surgery, Dr. Gopal carefully maps out the patient’s natural anatomy, marking the chest, abdomen, and waist to guide where fat will be removed and where it should be preserved.
Why does that matter?
Because removing fat evenly isn’t necessarily going to create definition. HD liposuction uses strategic fat removal to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more sculpted, athletic appearance.
And those lines? They’re part of the planning that makes this level of precision possible.
The photos show an actual patient immediately after surgery. Swelling is still present, and the final results will develop as healing progresses.

Does fat move after lipo?
It’s a common concern, especially when someone notices weight gain in an area that wasn’t treated.
Here’s what actually happens.
The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. But if someone gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still grow, including in areas that weren’t treated.
The fat didn’t move. The body gained weight.
That’s why Dr. Gopal emphasizes being at a weight patients can realistically maintain before surgery. Not the lowest weight they can reach, but one they can sustain long after recovery.

Want a more sculpted body?
High-definition liposuction takes body contouring a step further. Instead of simply removing excess fat, it focuses on sculpting around the body’s natural muscle structure to create more visible definition and a more athletic contour.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in HD liposuction, customizing each procedure based on the patient’s anatomy, body shape, and desired level of definition.
Because the goal isn’t to give everyone the same body. It’s to create a result that works with their natural anatomy.

The Four-Layer Neck Read
Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. Formation reads four of them before recommending anything, because each layer has its own fix and treating the wrong one disappoints no matter how well the procedure goes.
Layer One: Fat
Fat under the chin is the most common reason a jawline disappears. Neck liposuction removes it through very small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. The skill is in what stays behind. Dr. Grandhige removes fat carefully and preserves your natural jaw angles, since over-thinning this area creates irregularities and ages a neck early. For some patients, like the one above, careful double chin liposuction does most of the work.
Layer Two: The Platysma Muscle
The platysma is the thin sheet of muscle that runs from the jaw down the front of the neck. With age it can separate into vertical cords called platysmal bands, and fat removal won’t hide them. Where bands are present, the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, combined with platysmaplasty to tighten the muscle. The suture is nonabsorbable and can be removed, unlike barbed threads that dissolve. Its lift is there the day it’s placed, while energy tightening takes months to show.
Layer Three: Skin and the Fibroseptal Network
Loose skin is the layer liposuction can’t reach. Under the skin sits the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue that anchors skin to the muscle below. Renuvion, a helium plasma energy device, and FaceTite, a radiofrequency device, work from underneath through the same small openings used for liposuction. Renuvion treats the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network beneath it. Lasers and microneedling work from the top down, so they can’t reach that foundation.
Renuvion’s APR handpiece holds a 510(k) clearance to improve the appearance of loose skin in the neck and under the chin, first granted in 2022. In the trial behind it, 52 of 63 participants improved at six months, as judged by blinded photo reviewers. The manufacturer sponsored that trial and it ended at six months, so it can’t speak to long-term durability.
Layer Four: Chin Projection and Jaw Angle
Some jawlines look soft because of the frame underneath, not anything sitting on top of it. A chin that sits back or a shallow jaw angle blurs the profile even on a lean neck. Structural filler adds the projection the bone doesn’t: Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, placed at the chin and jaw angle. This is the layer behind a superhero jawline, and the one people rarely think to ask about.
What Contouring Won’t Fix
Contouring has limits, and you should hear them before anything is scheduled. Dr. Grandhige would rather tell you to wait than sell you the wrong procedure.
Skin is the first limit. Energy tightening works best within a skin age of roughly 25 to 55. Beyond that window, or with skin that hangs at rest, a neck lift does what tightening can’t. Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do that work well and points you to the right one.
Glands are the second. Some fullness under the jaw isn’t fat at all. Enlarged or low-sitting submandibular salivary glands create a bulge that liposuction and tightening leave in place. When glands are the limiting layer, contouring is the wrong tool, and an honest consultation says so up front.
Timing is the third. If you’re losing weight on a GLP-1 medication, contouring a neck that’s still shrinking means planning against a moving target, and loose skin can surface as volume drops. Sometimes the right decision is to wait until your weight settles.
Expectations are the fourth. The goal is a jawline that looks like yours on a good day. A different face was never on the table.
How Your Consultation Works
The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee. It’s a full surgical assessment: he examines all four layers, explains what will and won’t help, and tells you plainly when the answer is to wait. The fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation, and you should plan on about an hour. It’s the same assessment every neck and jawline contouring in Tampa patient gets, whichever neighborhood they drive in from.
If you’d rather start from home, patient coordinator Hanna offers a complimentary 20-minute virtual evaluation by video. She reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you decide to come in.
Procedure Day and Recovery
The procedure happens in Formation’s office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, not general anesthesia, and most patients return to work and training after one week. Because of the sedative, arrange for someone to drive you home. Dr. Grandhige performs every procedure himself, assisted by his own physician assistant, with the same staff on each case so everyone in the room knows his methods. Formation performs its surgeries in Quad A accredited facilities.
For the first few days, expect mild swelling, bruising and tightness, with a chin compression garment on. At one week you’re back at work, at social plans and in the gym. The garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day. Between two and four weeks, swelling keeps settling and the fat removal becomes visible. Skin tightening shows at about three months, with clear improvement along the jawline, and the final result arrives at six to nine months.
Dr. Grandhige puts recovery in numbers: surgery is 60% of your result and post-op care is the other 40%. That’s the 60/40 Recovery Standard, and it’s the reason Formation keeps recovery in-house instead of handing it off. Follow-up runs a full year, and nearly all Formation patients stay with it the entire time.
Why the Weeks Around the Procedure Matter
Before treatment, Formation assesses your health and diet. In the window immediately before and after the procedure, nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted so your body builds the most structure it can. That matters most for layer three, where tightening depends on your own healing. Support comes from lymphatic, nutrition and coaching providers Dr. Grandhige has personally vetted, a choice rooted in Formation’s philosophy that preparation is part of the procedure. The cannula and the energy handpiece are identical at every practice that owns them. The thinking around them is not.
Your Surgeon: Dr. Gopal Grandhige
Dr. Gopal Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. He is not a plastic surgeon, and you can confirm his general surgery certification through the American Board of Surgery. He earned his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School and first matched into Yale’s six-year combined plastic surgery residency. He then completed a full general surgery residency, followed by fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery.
That path matters for a neck. More than 15 years in demanding operating rooms taught him how tissue heals and how it holds up over time, and the neck punishes anyone who ignores either. He treats liposuction as sculpture, planned around your jaw angles and bone structure. Male necks get extra care, since an over-thinned or over-pulled jawline reads as feminized fast. He evaluates every patient himself and limits his surgical volume to stay involved through the final follow-up.
Coming to Formation From Palmetto Beach
Formation sits at 1315 South Howard Avenue in SoHo, under four miles from Palmetto Beach in a straight line. The simplest route is the Selmon Expressway: take the westbound on-ramp at 22nd Street, ride past downtown and exit at Willow Avenue (Exit 4) in Hyde Park, a little over a mile from the clinic. The Selmon uses all-electronic tolling, so there’s no booth to stop at.
Palmetto Beach is one of Tampa’s oldest neighborhoods, platted in 1894 on the shore of McKay Bay just south of Ybor City. It grew around cigar making, and three of its cigar factories still stand. In 2012 the National Park Service listed it as a historic district, with 205 contributing structures across 28 blocks.
Bayfront living also means storm planning. Palmetto Beach is one of two communities the City of Tampa chose for its Coastal Area Action Plan. If your procedure falls during hurricane season, build a fallback into the first recovery week. Formation has relationships with nearby hotels for patients who’d rather recover away from home, and Dr. Grandhige visits patients there in the early days. If you’re weighing body work too
Frequently Asked Questions About Neck and Jawline Contouring
Most patients return to work at one week, with a chin compression garment on 12 to 24 hours a day. Tightening shows at about three months, and the final result arrives at six to nine months.
Most patients are back to training at one week. Dr. Grandhige gives phased guidance at your follow-ups, so you know what to add back and when.
Usually not. Patients tend to hear that they look rested or fit, and nobody can say what changed. Dr. Grandhige preserves natural jaw angles and avoids over-thinning, which keeps a contoured neck from looking done.
Then liposuction alone won’t fix it. Platysmal bands, loose skin, a recessed chin or enlarged submandibular glands can all look like fat. The Four-Layer Neck Read sorts out which one you have, and if glands are the cause, you’ll be referred to a surgeon who treats them.
It depends on how much is still changing. Contouring a neck that’s still shrinking means planning against a moving target, and more loose skin can appear as weight comes off. Dr. Grandhige will tell you whether to proceed now or come back once your weight settles.
No. MyEllevate is a permanent suspension suture. It’s nonabsorbable, it can be removed, and its lift is present the day it’s placed, while barbed threads dissolve. Formation uses it with platysmaplasty when platysmal bands are part of the problem.
They’re long-lasting. Natural aging continues, but removing excess fat here can reset the aging clock and slow future laxity.
Yes. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige is a full surgical assessment with a fee, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation. Patient coordinator Hanna also offers a complimentary virtual evaluation by video if you’d like to talk through your goals first.
