Neck Liposuction In Riverview, FL

Neck liposuction takes out the fat pad under your chin through two or three incisions small enough to hide in a crease. The fat cells that come out do not come back. For the right neck it sharpens the jawline in a single office visit, done awake, with a chin garment for the week after. For the wrong neck it does very little, and most of this page is about telling those two apart before you drive up from Riverview.

What Neck Liposuction Removes, And What It Does Not

The fat that blurs a jawline sits between the skin and the platysma, the flat sheet of muscle that covers the front of the neck. Liposuction reaches that fat and nothing else. It does not tighten muscle. It does not remove skin. It does not build a chin.

That matters because most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. Someone with a full pad under the chin, loose skin, and visible platysmal bands gets a partial result from a procedure aimed at one of the three. The fat comes out, the jawline improves some, and the parts nobody addressed are now easier to see.

Dr. Grandhige treats this as a candidacy question rather than a technique question. The thing to settle at a consultation is not whether liposuction works. It is which layer of your neck is driving what bothers you in photographs. The Tampa neck liposuction page covers the procedure itself in more depth. This one is written for patients coming from Riverview and the communities around it.

One more thing worth saying plainly. Liposuction changes shape, not weight. It is a finishing tool for people already close to where they want to be, and the best candidates sit at or near a stable goal weight.

Who This Works For, And Who It Disappoints

The candidate this procedure was built for is bothered by a double chin or a soft jawline, has reasonable skin elasticity, sits near a stable weight, and wants refinement rather than a bigger operation. That patient does well, and the improvement runs out of proportion to how small the procedure is.

Three groups do not.

Patients whose main issue is bands. Covered above. Fat removal makes the cords easier to see, not harder.

Patients who lost weight fast, including on GLP-1 medications. Rapid loss tends to leave a neck with reduced recoil and less volume rather than a dense fat pad. Suctioning a neck that is already deflated can leave it emptier and older looking. Dr. Grandhige separates these cases from fat-dominant ones at the consultation, and the answer is often to treat the skin layer first, or to wait until weight has held steady for a while.

Patients with a fold that hangs at rest. If the skin will not recoil at all, no energy device closes that gap, and the honest answer is skin excision. Formation does not perform neck lifts. Dr. Grandhige stays in contact with surgeons who do that work well and will point you to one rather than sell you a smaller operation that will not hold.

Whoever you end up consulting, check their license through the Florida Board of Medicine before you book anything.

The Four-Layer Neck Read

Formation runs a four-layer read on every neck consultation. You can do a rough version of it yourself in a mirror tonight. Each layer has its own solution, and picking the wrong one is how patients end up let down by an operation that went technically well.

Layer One: The Fat Under Your Chin

Tilt your chin down and pinch the tissue underneath. If you can hold a soft, mobile pad between your fingers, that is subcutaneous fat, and it is the layer liposuction owns. This pad is heavily genetic. Plenty of Formation patients are lean everywhere else and still carry it, which is why walking more and eating cleaner never moved it.

Dr. Grandhige removes this layer conservatively. Taking out too much is how a neck ends up hollow, irregular, and older than it started.

Layer Two: The Platysma Muscle And Its Bands

Tense your neck the way you would for a grimace. If two vertical cords stand up between your collarbone and your jaw, those are platysmal bands, and they are muscle. Fat removal does not touch them. Take the fat off a banded neck and the cords often become more visible, because the padding that was softening them is gone.

The answer at that layer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, usually paired with platysmaplasty to bring the muscle edges back together. That is a different operation from liposuction and it gets discussed as one.

Layer Three: Skin And The Fibroseptal Network

Pinch the skin under your jaw and let go. Skin that snaps back has recoil. Skin that takes a beat to return, or settles into a fold at rest, does not. Elasticity roughly tracks skin age 25 to 55, and it decides whether fat removal alone leaves you smooth.

When recoil is borderline, Dr. Grandhige tightens after the fat comes out using FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted device, or Renuvion, a helium plasma and radiofrequency device. Both work from underneath. They reach the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network beneath it, the connective tissue that anchors skin to muscle. Lasers and microneedling work from the top down and never get to that foundation.

Renuvion received 510(k) clearance in July 2022 for improving the appearance of loose skin in the neck and submental region. Read the clearance study before deciding it settles anything. Patients were followed for six months and results were graded from photographs by blinded reviewers, so it says nothing about how the tightening holds at year three.

Layer Four: Chin Projection And Jaw Angle

Look at your profile. A chin sitting behind the plane of your lower lip makes a neck look fuller than it is, because there is less bone for the tissue to drape over. No amount of fat removal creates a jaw angle you were not born with.

Where projection is the limit, structural filler does more than suction. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, placed along the chin and jaw. That is the difference between a cleaner neck and something closer to a superhero jawline, and it is a separate conversation from the fat.

What Happens On Procedure Day

Neck cases run in the South Tampa office rather than a surgical facility. You take an oral sedative, the area is numbed with local anesthesia, and you stay awake. No general anesthesia, no breathing tube, no hospital day.

Incisions go under the chin and behind the ears, in creases where they fade. A thin cannula removes fat from the pad under the chin and along the jawline, and the natural angles of the jaw are worked around rather than through. Restraint is the whole technique here. Over-resection is what produces contour irregularities and the drawn look that ages badly.

Once the fat is out, Renuvion or FaceTite tightens the skin down over the muscle and bone underneath, so the envelope follows the new contour instead of sitting loose over it.

Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs the procedure himself. He is board-certified in general surgery with fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery, and he came to aesthetics after fifteen years of operating in settings where tissue behavior decided outcomes. His physician assistant assists on every one of his surgeries, and the team in the room is the same team every time.

Plan for someone to drive you home. The sedative rules out driving yourself, which matters more when the drive is back down to Riverview than when it is six blocks.

Your Recovery, Week By Week

First few days. Mild swelling, some bruising, and a tight feeling under the chin. You wear a chin compression garment.

One week. Most patients are back at work and back out socially. The garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day through this stretch. Training resumes at one week.

Two to four weeks. Swelling keeps coming down and the fat removal becomes obvious. This is when patients start noticing it in photographs rather than only in the mirror.

Three months. Skin tightening shows. Everything that changes from here comes from the skin contracting, not from fat that already left.

Six to nine months. Final. The tightening finishes and what you see is what holds.

Recovery here is a clinical phase, not a waiting period. Dr. Grandhige holds every case to the 60/40 Recovery Standard: the operation is 60 percent of the result and post-operative care is the other 40. Care done badly undoes an operation done well, which is why Formation keeps that part in house instead of handing you a sheet and a date. Settled results sit in the before and after gallery.

How Formation Prepares You Before And After Surgery

What separates two neck results done with the same device is what happens on either side of the procedure.

Before surgery, your health and diet get assessed. Protein intake, inflammation, sleep, medications, and where you sit in a weight change all affect how tissue heals and how far skin retracts. Where something needs changing, it gets changed before you are on the table.

In the window immediately before and after the procedure, nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted so the body builds as much structure as it can while it is healing. That thinking runs through everything here, and our philosophy page explains where it came from.

Then Dr. Grandhige follows you for a year. Not a six-week discharge. A year, because a neck gives its final answer somewhere between month six and month nine, and nobody can tell you at week three whether the tightening landed.

Renuvion is Renuvion. Same handpiece, same settings, same box, in every practice that bought one. What differs is who decides you are a candidate, how much fat comes out, and what gets dialed in around the operation. None of that is in the box.

Coming From Riverview

Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue in the SoHo district of South Tampa. Patients come in from Riverview, Boyette, FishHawk, Valrico, Brandon, Apollo Beach, Gibsonton and Ruskin, and neck work is one of the more common reasons they make the drive.

Trip count is the practical question, and for a neck case it runs lower than for body work. There is the evaluation, the in-office consultation, procedure day, a post-operative check, then spaced follow-ups out to a year. Because the procedure happens in the office rather than an accredited surgical facility, procedure day is one address instead of two. The awake liposuction page goes further into what staying awake changes.

Two scheduling notes for anyone driving up from the southern end of the county. Bring a driver, because the sedative stays with you for the rest of the day and the expressway home is not the place to test it. And think about where the garment week lands. You are in the chin garment 12 to 24 hours a day through that first week and back at work by the end of it, so booking toward the end of a week gives you the least awkward version of it.

Your Consultation At Formation

Formation offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, held over video. She goes through your goals, tells you what is realistic for your neck, and outlines a plan before you commit to coming in.

The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee. It is a full surgical assessment: anatomical evaluation, candidacy, the options that apply and the ones that do not, and direct guidance on timing and recovery. That fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice.

Both exist for a reason. The virtual evaluation keeps people from making a round trip to find out they are not candidates. The fee keeps the in-office visit from being a sales appointment, which is what lets Dr. Grandhige say no when no is the right answer. He does say it. Sometimes that means waiting, sometimes it means sorting out weight or health first, and sometimes it means a different procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue in South Tampa, a straight run up from the Riverview and Brandon corridor. Plan on the virtual evaluation, an in-office consultation, procedure day, a post-operative check, then spaced follow-ups through the first year. Neck procedure day is a single address because the case runs in the office rather than a separate surgical facility.

No. You take an oral sedative and the area is numbed with local anesthesia. You stay awake and comfortable, and you skip the risks and the recovery load that come with general anesthesia. Arrange for someone to drive you home.

Both at one week. Most patients are back at work and back out socially by then, and training resumes at the one-week mark. The chin garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day through that first week.

Fat removal shows at two to four weeks. Skin tightening becomes visible around three months. The final result lands between six and nine months, once the tightening has finished.

The fat cells removed do not return, so the change is permanent as long as your weight stays steady. Aging carries on, but clearing the pad under the chin can reset the aging clock in that area and slow the laxity that would otherwise show up there.

No. Those are platysmal bands, and they are muscle rather than fat. Liposuction does not reach them, and removing the fat covering them can make them stand out more. Bands are addressed with MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, usually paired with platysmaplasty.

It depends on what is left. If there is still a real fat pad and the skin recoils, yes. If rapid loss left you with laxity and lost volume rather than fat, suction can make the neck look emptier. Dr. Grandhige sorts those two apart at the consultation and will tell you if the skin layer needs attention first.

Then you get told, and you get pointed somewhere. A neck with skin that hangs at rest needs excision, which Formation does not perform. Dr. Grandhige stays in contact with surgeons who do that work well and refers to them rather than offering a smaller procedure that will not hold.

The Next Step

Neck liposuction is a small operation with a large effect when fat is the problem, and a letdown when it is not. The read matters more than the technique.

If you are in Riverview and what bothers you is a soft pad under the chin, you are probably in the right place. If it is cords, a fold that hangs at rest, or a neck that changed after fast weight loss, you deserve to hear that before you book surgery rather than after.

Start with the complimentary virtual evaluation with Hanna, or book the in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige for the full surgical assessment. Either way you leave knowing which layer of your neck is actually the problem.

Which one surprised you the most? 👀Liposuction is one of those procedures people have heard a lot about, but not everything they’ve heard is accurate. From what liposuction can actually achieve to how long results take to develop, there are plenty of misconceptions that can lead to unrealistic expectations.Dr. Gopal Grandhige, board-certified plastic surgeon at Formation in Tampa, breaks down some of the most common beliefs about liposuction and explains what’s fact and what’s fiction.#Liposuction #HDLiposuction #BodyContouring #tampa

This is not your typical liposuction. 👀Most people think liposuction is simply about removing unwanted fat. But high-definition liposuction takes a different approach. Before surgery, Dr. Gopal carefully maps out the patient’s natural anatomy, marking the chest, abdomen, and waist to guide where fat will be removed and where it should be preserved. Why does that matter?Because removing fat evenly isn’t necessarily going to create definition. HD liposuction uses strategic fat removal to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more sculpted, athletic appearance. And those lines? They’re part of the planning that makes this level of precision possible. The photos show an actual patient immediately after surgery. Does fat move after lipo? It’s a common concern, especially when someone notices weight gain in an area that wasn’t treated. Here’s what actually happens. The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. But if someone gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still grow, including in areas that weren’t treated. The fat didn’t move. The body gained weight. That’s why Dr. Gopal emphasizes being at a weight patients can realistically maintain before surgery. Not the lowest weight they can reach, but one they can sustain long after recovery.Considering liposuction? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa. Don’t plan lipo 2 months before vacation. If the goal is to enjoy a more sculpted, defined body next summer, the planning needs to start months before that.Fall is one of our busiest seasons at Formation, and there’s a reason for it. Many patients are already thinking about how they want to look and feel next summer. But getting there takes time.At Formation, Dr. Gopal requires at least four weeks of preparation before surgery. That time is spent preparing patients physically and mentally for the procedure and recovery. After surgery, swelling needs to go down, the skin needs to contract, and the tissues need time to settle into their new contour. It can take 6–9 months for results to look and feel natural. That’s why Dr. Gopal recommends planning liposuction 6–12 months ahead, especially when there’s a specific season or vacation in mind.If next summer is the goal, now is the time to start the conversation.DM us or Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa. How defined would you go?Not everyone wants the same look from HD liposuction. Some prefer a smooth, subtle contour, while others want their abs to stand out. Here’s how the three levels of definition differ:01. Low definition: A leaner, natural-looking abdomen with subtle definition and light contouring around the underlying muscles.02. Medium definition: More visible separation between the abdominal muscles, with added definition through the abs and obliques without a sharply etched six-pack.03. High definition: More pronounced sculpting around the abs and obliques to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more chiseled, athletic look.Dr. Gopal tailors his HD liposuction technique to the level of definition you’re looking for, while considering what’s achievable for your body.Which would you choose: 1, 2 or 3? This isn’t traditional lipo. It’s HD lipo. For this patient, getting smaller isn’t the goal.He already works out. He already has the muscle. Dr. Gopal’s job is to use HD liposuction to bring out more of that existing definition and shape the areas around it so the body looks more athletic and defined. That’s why the markings matter. This is the part of the job that never gets old. There’s something special about knowing how different a patient’s life might feel on the other side. Not just because their body may look different, but because of everything that can come with it.Feeling more comfortable in their own skin. Three small incisions instead of one long one.For some patients with diastasis recti, repairing the separated abdominal muscles doesn’t necessarily require a traditional tummy tuck.A tummy tuck makes sense when there’s loose skin that needs to be removed at the same time. But some patients are lean, don’t have much loose skin, and still have that persistent pooch from muscle separation. For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can repair the diastasis using a minimally invasive robotic approach through three small incisions, about 8 mm each, hidden along the bikini line. The key is choosing the right procedure for the right anatomy. If there’s significant loose skin or excess fat, repairing the muscles alone may actually make that looseness more noticeable. That’s why the consultation matters. It’s not just about seeing a belly pooch. It’s about understanding what’s causing it and what actually needs to be addressed.Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa to find out which approach makes sense for you.
