PDO Thread Lift In Clearwater, FL
Lift The Jawline Without Sedation, Without Incisions, And Without A Second Trip Across The Bay
What A PDO Thread Lift Does
A PDO thread lift lifts sagging skin along the jawline and lower face using dissolvable sutures placed just under the skin, no incisions and no general anesthesia. At Formation, the treatment runs 30 to 60 minutes under local anesthesia in the office. Most Clearwater patients drive themselves back over the Courtney Campbell Causeway the same afternoon.
The threads are polydioxanone, an absorbable surgical suture material that has been used in medicine for decades. Fine barbs or cones along each thread catch the underlying tissue and hold it in a lifted position. That part works immediately. You see a change the day it is placed. Over the following months your body lays down collagen around each thread, which firms the skin from underneath.
The threads themselves dissolve within six to nine months. The collagen they trigger is what carries the result, and that typically holds for 12 to 18 months. This is a real treatment with a real ceiling, and knowing where that ceiling sits is the whole point of the consultation. A PDO thread lift is not a facelift in slower motion. It repositions skin. It does not release or move the deeper structures a surgical lift addresses.
Formation limits how many procedures it takes on, so you get evaluated by the surgeon who performs the treatment rather than handed to a technician.
6 months post HD liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
HD liposuction can be customized based on anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition someone wants to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.

These lipo terms aren’t interchangeable.
Traditional liposuction, Lipo 360, and high-definition liposuction can all address unwanted fat, but the approach depends on what you’re actually trying to change.
Maybe it’s one stubborn area that hasn’t responded to diet and exercise.
Maybe the goal is creating better proportion throughout the entire midsection.
Or maybe you’re already lean and looking for more visible, athletic definition.
Those are different goals, and they call for different treatment plans.

Each treatment plan starts with your anatomy, your current body composition, and the result you want to achieve.

1 Month Post-Op Transformation! 💥
Fixing previous surgical outcomes requires precision, expertise, and a tailored approach.
Here’s how Dr. Grandhige transformed this patient’s core and chest:
The Challenge:
Previous tummy tuck left uneven abdominal fat distribution
High scar placement creating a visible “shelf” effect
The Solution:
HD Liposculpture to refine and sculpt a athletic, masculine core and chest
Scar Revision to eliminate the shelf-like appearance and create a smoother profile
Keep in mind, at just 1 month post-op, swelling is still settling and we are nowhere near final results! Can’t wait to see this shape mature over the next few months. 🔥
💬 Questions about revision procedures? Drop them in the comments or send us a DM!

What makes this journey even more special is where it began. Two years ago, this patient came to us wanting change but wasn’t quite ready for the operating table. Instead of rushing, we partnered with her for the long haul. Through the strategic use of GLP-1 therapy, dedicated nutrition guidance, and mindset coaching, she completely transformed her health to get to where she is today.
While she is already looking incredible, it’s important to remember that residual swelling and inflammation are completely normal at this stage. Healing takes time, but the foundation for an amazing result is officially set!
We are so incredibly honored to be a part of every patient`s unique journey, and we are committed to being with you every single step of the way.
Drop a ❤️ to wish her a continued smooth recovery!

The Formation Lift Ladder
Most Clearwater patients who ask about threads have already worked out that they want something between injectables and surgery. The harder question is whether a thread is the right rung. Formation sorts that with the Lift Ladder, a four-rung read of how much laxity is actually present.
Rung One, Skin Quality Without Real Laxity
Your skin looks crepey or has lost some tone, but nothing is sagging. Pinch the skin along your jaw and it snaps back. Threads add nothing here. Resurfacing or a collagen-stimulating treatment does more, and it costs you less recovery. This is the rung where patients most often get sold a thread lift they did not need.
Rung Two, Mild To Moderate Laxity With Decent Skin
Early jowling. A jawline that has softened but has not collapsed. Skin that still recoils when you release it. This is where a thread lift earns its place, and it is the only rung where Formation recommends one as the primary treatment. The lift is modest and honest: firmer jaw definition, a cleaner transition from jaw to neck, a profile that reads more rested.
Rung Three, Laxity Plus Fat Or Muscle
If there is a fat pad under the chin, or if the platysma muscle shows visible bands when you clench, a thread pulls on the wrong layer. Skin gets tightened over a problem that sits beneath it. This rung needs the fat addressed and the skin tightened together, which is what neck and jawline contouring does, sometimes alongside FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted tightening device that works from under the skin. Where the platysmal bands themselves are the issue, a permanent suspension suture holds far better than a dissolving one. Formation is building out a dedicated page on that approach.
Rung Four, Skin That Hangs At Rest
Stand in front of a mirror with your chin level. If skin hangs without you pulling on it, no thread reaches this. Neither does energy tightening. This is skin-excision territory, and Formation refers these patients outward to surgeons who do that work well rather than talking them into something smaller. Several of those referral relationships sit on the Pinellas side of the bay, which shortens the drive for a Clearwater patient who ends up on this rung. The ladder exists because thread lifts get sold up and down the range. Two rungs out of four, a thread is the wrong tool. There is a second reason Formation is careful about who gets threads. A 2025 case series in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery followed ten patients who had two or more absorbable thread treatments before going on to a facelift. Surgeons found fibrosis, tissue distortion and fusion between anatomical layers during surgery, which made the dissection harder. Ten patients from one surgeon is a small series and it does not prove the pattern holds broadly. It is enough to change how the conversation goes. If a facelift is somewhere in your ten-year plan, that belongs on the table before threads go in, not after.
Who Performs Your Thread Lift
Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs every thread lift at Formation himself. He is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery, certified by the American Board of Surgery, and he has practiced in Tampa for over 15 years.
His training route matters more than the label. Medical school at the University of Michigan, then a combined plastic surgery residency at Yale, then a full general surgery residency followed by fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. Burn and critical care work is where you learn how tissue heals, scars and behaves when it is stressed. That is the same knowledge that governs where a barb should sit and how deep a thread should run.
He has performed several thousand surgical procedures. His stated priority now is precision over volume, and he caps his surgical schedule to stay involved through recovery rather than handing patients off after the appointment. Formation also has Dr. Ahmad Saad, a board-certified plastic surgeon, on the team.
Procedure And First Two Weeks
The treatment happens in the office. The areas are marked while you are sitting upright, because laxity behaves differently lying down and a jawline marked flat on a table gets lifted in the wrong vector. Local anesthetic goes in. Threads are placed through fine needles or cannulas along the planned lines, then the tissue is set into position. Total chair time runs 30 to 60 minutes depending on how many zones get treated.
Some gathering or dimpling of the skin right afterward is normal and expected. It is the tissue bunching where it has been lifted, and it settles as swelling resolves. Expect mild swelling, bruising and a tight feeling for the first few days. Most patients are back at work and out socially inside a week. Skip strenuous exercise for about two weeks, sleep on your back, and hold off on facials, massage and aggressive skincare over the treated area while things settle. There is no compression garment with this treatment, which is worth knowing if you drive the causeway to a Tampa office every morning and would rather nothing be visible on the commute.
On what can go wrong, the published numbers are more specific than most treatment pages admit. A meta-analysis in Frontiers in Surgery pooled 26 studies covering 2,827 thread lift patients and found swelling in 34 percent, bruising in 26 percent, visible or palpable threads in 10 percent, and skin dimpling in 7 percent. The authors flag high variability between the studies, with heterogeneity running to 92 percent for swelling, so treat those figures as a range rather than a forecast for you specifically. Most of it is temporary. The late-onset items, threads you can feel or see, are the ones that depend on placement depth and technique.
The Weeks Around The Procedure Are Part Of The Procedure
Formation treats the weeks around a procedure as part of the procedure. Before your thread lift, your health and diet get assessed, and nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window immediately before and after so your body builds the most collagen it can around the threads. That matters more here than in most treatments, because the thread is a scaffold and the collagen response is the actual result. A patient who arrives inflamed, under-slept and low on protein gets less structure out of the same threads.
For Pinellas County patients the pre-treatment adjustments and the routine follow-up check-ins happen remotely, so the two bay crossings you make are the consultation and the appointment itself. Formation calls this the 60/40 Recovery Standard. The procedure is 60 percent of the outcome. What happens afterward is the other 40. Read how the practice thinks about aftercare and it is the same logic applied across every treatment.
The thread you get at Formation is the same thread available down the road. The thinking around it is not.
Clearwater And Pinellas Patients
Clearwater and St. Petersburg patients already make up a steady share of Formation’s practice, and the geography shapes what makes sense clinically. Downtown Clearwater sits about 19 miles from the office at 1315 South Howard Avenue, which means one bay crossing: Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard onto the Courtney Campbell Causeway, or Ulmerton Road across the Howard Frankland Bridge on Interstate 275.
That crossing is the reason a thread lift and a surgical lift are different propositions for a Pinellas County patient. Anything under sedation means a driver, a bay crossing while you are groggy, and a return trip for the first post-op visit. A thread lift is done under local anesthetic. You walk out, you drive yourself home over the causeway, and you sleep in your own bed in Clearwater that night.
The second Clearwater-specific factor is sun. Living within a few miles of Clearwater Beach and the Coachman Park waterfront means year-round outdoor exposure, and cumulative UV damage degrades the collagen network that a thread lift depends on. Two patients the same age with the same jawline can respond differently based on how much sun their skin has absorbed. Sun history is part of the evaluation here in a way it would not be for a patient in a cooler climate, and it shapes how long the result should be expected to hold.
Because crossing the bay to be told you are a Rung Four candidate wastes your afternoon, Formation offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you commit to the drive. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee and is a full surgical assessment, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice. Clearwater patients who want to see outcomes before either step can work through the before and after gallery first.
Conclusion
A PDO thread lift is a good treatment for a narrow band of patients: early jowling, softened jaw definition, skin that still recoils. Inside that band it does honest work with a few days of downtime and no incisions. Outside it, threads either do nothing or tighten skin over a problem sitting underneath.
Most pages selling thread lifts do not draw that line, because drawing it costs them patients. Formation draws it in the consultation, which is why some Clearwater patients leave with a plan for a different treatment and some leave with a referral to a surgeon who does skin excision. Bring your questions, your sun history and your ten-year plan. You will get a straight read on which rung you are standing on.
Frequently Asked Questions About PDO Thread Lifts
The threads dissolve within six to nine months. The collagen built around them typically carries the result for 12 to 18 months. How long it holds for you depends on your skin quality, your age and your sun history.
Local anesthetic goes in before the threads. Most patients describe pressure or a tugging sensation rather than pain. A tight feeling for a few days afterward is common.
No, and any page that says so is using the wrong word. Threads go through the FDA's 510(k) premarket notification pathway, which establishes substantial equivalence to a device already on the market rather than proving effectiveness. Most PDO threads are cleared as absorbable sutures for soft tissue approximation, and that clearance does not by itself cover facial lifting. A small number of thread systems hold a separate clearance for mid-face suspension.
Probably not. That is Rung Four on the Lift Ladder, and threads do not reach it. You will get told that directly instead of being sold a treatment that will not work.
Yes. There is no sedation and no general anesthesia, so you do not need a driver for the causeway.
Swelling, bruising and temporary numbness are the common ones. Skin dimpling, threads you can see or feel, and infection show up less often. Pooled study data puts visible or palpable threads around 10 percent, though the variability between studies is wide.
They can. Repeat thread treatments have been linked to fibrosis and tissue changes that make later surgical dissection more difficult. If a facelift is a realistic option for you within the next decade, say so at the consultation.
Often, yes. Threads reposition skin, and injectables address volume and muscle, so they address different problems. Any combination gets planned around what your anatomy needs rather than what is on the menu.
