What Jawline Filler Actually Does
Filler restores projection where soft tissue has thinned or where the bone underneath was never prominent. It builds outward along the jaw angle, down the mandibular border, and forward at the chin. Placed well, it sharpens the line between the face and the neck by adding to the top edge of that line, not by subtracting from the bottom.
That is the whole mechanism. It matters because most people arrive with a jawline complaint that has nothing to do with volume. The federal labeling is narrower than the marketing suggests. The FDA has approved dermal fillers for adults 22 and older, with augmentation of the lips, cheeks, chin, and back of the hand among the listed uses, and it explicitly recommends against injecting the neck. Any page promising to sculpt your neck with filler is describing something outside approved labeling.
A defined jawline is possible with filler for the right anatomy. It is a poor substitute for the wrong one.

Source Four: Skeletal Projection
Turn to full profile. Draw an imaginary vertical line down from your lower lip. If your chin sits well behind that line, the front of your jaw was built short. The FDA notes that it may not have reviewed the use of certain dermal fillers for all locations in the body, and advises patients to read and discuss the patient labeling for the specific filler they are receiving. The agency maintains a public list of approved dermal fillers with each product’s labeled indications. One hyaluronic acid product carries a jawline definition indication. Several products commonly marketed for the jaw do not.
