Neck Liposuction In Fish Hawk, FL

Neck liposuction removes the fat under your chin and along your jawline. That’s the pad that stays put no matter how many miles you log on the FishHawk Ranch trails. It’s done in the office under local anesthesia with an oral sedative. The result is a cleaner line between jaw and neck that reads as fitter and more rested, not operated on. Dr. Gopal Grandhige plans and performs every procedure himself, then follows you for a full year.

Fish Hawk patients can start from home with a complimentary virtual evaluation with Hanna, our patient coordinator. The in-office surgical consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, and that fee applies toward any procedure or product at Formation.

What Neck Liposuction Treats

Neck liposuction treats one layer: fat. It removes the fat that blurs the angle under your chin and softens the edge of your jaw, and those fat cells don’t come back. On its own, it doesn’t tighten muscle, retract loose skin, or add projection to a chin that sits back.

Genetics and aging drive this fat, so lean, active people carry it too. It can make you look heavier or more tired than you feel. Fish Hawk patients get the same in-office technique Dr. Grandhige uses for neck liposuction in Tampa. The first question is whether fat is your main problem.

The Four-Layer Neck Read

The Four-Layer Neck Read is how Dr. Grandhige decides what your neck needs before anything is booked. He checks four sources of fullness or blur in order, and each one has its own fix. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. That’s why liposuction alone disappoints some people, and why the read comes first.

Layer One: Fat

Neck liposuction treats this layer and no other. If the fullness under your chin is mostly soft fat and your skin springs back when pinched, fat is your main layer. Dr. Grandhige stops short of taking all of it, because over-aggressive removal leaves irregularities and a neck that ages early.

Layer Two: Platysma Muscle and Platysmal Bands

The platysma is the thin sheet of muscle under your neck skin. When its front edges loosen, they show as vertical cords called platysmal bands, and removing fat won’t flatten them. Where bands are present, the fix is platysmaplasty with MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture that supports the muscle from underneath.

Layer Three: Skin and the Fibroseptal Network

Skin that has lost some recoil needs help retracting once the fat beneath it is gone. The fibroseptal network is the connective tissue foundation between your skin and the muscle below. Two devices reach it from underneath, through the same small openings used for the liposuction:

  • Renuvion, a helium plasma energy device
  • FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis device

Both treat the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network under it. Lasers and microneedling work from the surface down and can’t reach that foundation.

Layer Four: Chin Projection and Jaw Angle

Some soft profiles are a frame problem. If your chin sits back, removing neck fat sharpens the angle beneath it, but your side profile still reads soft. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, and Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, add projection at the chin and definition at the jaw angle. The amounts stay conservative and matched to your face.

Good Candidates for Neck Liposuction

You’re a good candidate if three things are true:

  • fat is the main reason your jawline looks soft
  • your skin still has reasonable elasticity
  • you’re at or near a weight you can hold

Dr. Grandhige uses a skin age of roughly 25 to 55 as the working window for elasticity. He examines the skin itself, because skin age and birth year don’t always match.

On its own, neck liposuction won’t fix loose, hanging skin, platysmal bands or a recessed chin, and it isn’t a weight-loss procedure. Some patients leave the consultation with a plan that doesn’t include surgery at all.

If your neck is past what tightening and contouring can reach, Dr. Grandhige will tell you. Formation stays in contact with surgeons who do that work well and will point you to the right one. If your concern turns out to be more skin than fat, the options under neck and jawline contouring may fit better.

Procedure Day at Formation

The procedure happens at Formation’s South Howard office, and you stay awake for it. An oral sedative settles your nerves and local anesthesia numbs the neck. Dr. Grandhige makes small openings under the chin and behind the ears and removes fat with a thin cannula. He shapes the jawline while keeping your natural angles. If your skin needs help retracting, Renuvion or FaceTite goes in through the same openings. Most procedures take one to two hours, and you leave in a chin compression garment.

Florida’s HB 1175 took effect July 1, 2026. It directs the state to set building and fire safety design standards for office surgery suites by January 1, 2027. That law covers the room. For a neck procedure under local anesthesia, ask any office who performs it, how conservatively they remove fat, and who follows you afterward.

Recovery Week by Week

Patients return to work and to training at one week, and the final result arrives between six and nine months.

The first few days bring mild swelling, bruising and tightness, and you wear the chin compression garment. At one week you’re back at work and social plans, still in the garment 12 to 24 hours a day. Between weeks two and four, swelling keeps dropping and the fat removal starts to show. Skin tightening becomes visible around three months, with a clear change at the jawline. The final result settles between six and nine months.

The 60/40 Recovery Standard

Formation runs recovery on the 60/40 Recovery Standard. The procedure accounts for about 60 percent of your result, and the care afterward accounts for the other 40. Poor aftercare can undo a well-performed surgery. So recovery here runs on a schedule, with compression guidance, lymphatic support and follow-up visits.

The standard starts before treatment. Your health and diet are assessed first. Then nutrition, supplements and peptides are dialed in for the window just before and after the procedure, so your body builds the most structure it can while the skin tightens. That sequence comes from our philosophy, which treats surgery as one part of a larger process. The cannula in Dr. Grandhige’s hand is the same instrument used at every practice. The thinking around it isn’t.

Risks and What the Published Numbers Show

Serious complications after neck liposuction are uncommon. The expected effects are swelling, bruising and tightness. The risk most specific to the neck involves the nerve branch that moves the corner of your lower lip.

A case series of 987 neck liposuction patients was published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology in 2018. It recorded five cases of temporary marginal mandibular nerve dysfunction, the lip-corner weakness described above. It also reported one case of submandibular gland ptosis and one arterial bleed, with no seromas, skin necrosis, scarring or hyperpigmentation.

Those figures come with limits. They reflect three experienced dermatologic surgeons using tumescent local anesthesia, and a case series has no comparison group. They describe those surgeons’ results, not any single office, including ours. Ask any surgeon you’re considering how they protect the jawline border, where that nerve runs.

Results and How Long They Last

The fat cells removed from your neck don’t return, so the change holds as long as your weight stays stable. Weight gain can still enlarge the fat cells that remain, and aging continues. Even so, removing excess fat here with restraint can reset the aging clock and slow the look of future laxity.

One patient, a professional in his 40s, had always looked this way and hated seeing himself in photos, even though the rest of him was fit. He had targeted neck liposuction that kept his natural jaw angles and skipped aggressive skin tightening. Colleagues told him he looked rested. He felt his face finally matched his body, and he gets in the pictures now. Formation’s before-and-after gallery shows how Dr. Grandhige handles proportion and transitions.

If you have a date in mind, count back nine months. A neck treated in November 2026 shows its tightening around February 2027 and reaches its final result between May and August 2027.

Getting From Fish Hawk to South Howard

Fish Hawk sits about 20 miles southeast of downtown Tampa, across the Alafia River. Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue in South Tampa. The direct route runs up I-75 to the Selmon Expressway, which carries you west into South Tampa. On procedure day, leave room for I-75 traffic.

You don’t need to make that drive to learn whether you’re a candidate. Start with the virtual evaluation from home. Then come in for the surgical consultation with Dr. Grandhige, which carries a fee that applies toward your treatment.

Because the procedure is done in the office under local anesthesia, you can recover at home in Fish Hawk. If you’d rather stay near the office for the first nights, Formation has relationships with nearby hotels. Dr. Grandhige visits patients in their rooms during those early days.

Training is back on at one week, the same week you return to work, so FishHawk Ranch’s 25 miles of community trails go back into your routine then. Follow-up visits run for a full year, and nearly all of Dr. Grandhige’s patients keep them.

Why Patients Travel to Formation

Patients travel to Formation for a surgeon who limits his surgical volume, plans and performs every procedure himself, and stays involved for a year. Dr. Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. You can verify his board certification through the American Board of Surgery.

He trained at the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a full general surgery residency. He then finished fellowships in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. That training centers on how tissue heals under stress, and a neck spends months healing after liposuction.

He has more than 15 years and several thousand procedures behind him. Neck and jawline contouring is among the procedures he performs most. Tampa Magazine has named him a Top Doctor every year from 2023 through 2026.

In his view, jawline contouring is one of the most underestimated procedures in aesthetic surgery. Done well, it changes how people read your face without anyone knowing why.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Formation’s office at 1315 South Howard Avenue in South Tampa, reached from Fish Hawk by I-75 and the Selmon Expressway. It’s done under local anesthesia with an oral sedative, and you can recover at home afterward.

Usually not on its own. A turkey neck is mostly loose skin and platysmal bands, layers two and three of the Four-Layer Neck Read. Bands call for platysmaplasty with MyEllevate, and lax skin may need Renuvion or FaceTite, or a referral if it’s past what tightening can reach.

No. Dr. Grandhige performs it in the office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, and you stay awake. Most procedures take one to two hours.

Both at one week. You’ll still wear the chin compression garment 12 to 24 hours a day at that point.

Swelling resolves on its own schedule. It keeps dropping through weeks two to four, tightening shows around three months, and the final result settles between six and nine months. Your follow-up visits are there to check anything that concerns you.

The fat cells removed don’t come back, so results hold as long as your weight stays stable. Weight gain can enlarge the fat cells that remain, and natural aging continues.

The in-office surgical consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, and it applies toward any procedure or product at Formation. The virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna is complimentary and helps you decide whether to come in.

Count back nine months. Tightening shows around three months and the final result arrives between six and nine months, so a neck treated in November 2026 is ready between May and August 2027.

Your Next Step From Fish Hawk

  • an in-office procedure
  • a return to work at one week
  • a year of follow-up with the surgeon who did the work

If it isn’t, you’ll hear that too, along with what would help instead.

This is not your typical liposuction. 👀Most people think liposuction is simply about removing unwanted fat. But high-definition liposuction takes a different approach. Before surgery, Dr. Gopal carefully maps out the patient’s natural anatomy, marking the chest, abdomen, and waist to guide where fat will be removed and where it should be preserved. Why does that matter?Because removing fat evenly isn’t necessarily going to create definition. HD liposuction uses strategic fat removal to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more sculpted, athletic appearance. And those lines? They’re part of the planning that makes this level of precision possible. The photos show an actual patient immediately after surgery. Does fat move after lipo? It’s a common concern, especially when someone notices weight gain in an area that wasn’t treated. Here’s what actually happens. The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. But if someone gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still grow, including in areas that weren’t treated. The fat didn’t move. The body gained weight. That’s why Dr. Gopal emphasizes being at a weight patients can realistically maintain before surgery. Not the lowest weight they can reach, but one they can sustain long after recovery.Considering liposuction? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa. Don’t plan lipo 2 months before vacation. If the goal is to enjoy a more sculpted, defined body next summer, the planning needs to start months before that.Fall is one of our busiest seasons at Formation, and there’s a reason for it. Many patients are already thinking about how they want to look and feel next summer. But getting there takes time.At Formation, Dr. Gopal requires at least four weeks of preparation before surgery. That time is spent preparing patients physically and mentally for the procedure and recovery. After surgery, swelling needs to go down, the skin needs to contract, and the tissues need time to settle into their new contour. It can take 6–9 months for results to look and feel natural. That’s why Dr. Gopal recommends planning liposuction 6–12 months ahead, especially when there’s a specific season or vacation in mind.If next summer is the goal, now is the time to start the conversation.DM us or Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa. How defined would you go?Not everyone wants the same look from HD liposuction. Some prefer a smooth, subtle contour, while others want their abs to stand out. Here’s how the three levels of definition differ:01. Low definition: A leaner, natural-looking abdomen with subtle definition and light contouring around the underlying muscles.02. Medium definition: More visible separation between the abdominal muscles, with added definition through the abs and obliques without a sharply etched six-pack.03. High definition: More pronounced sculpting around the abs and obliques to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more chiseled, athletic look.Dr. Gopal tailors his HD liposuction technique to the level of definition you’re looking for, while considering what’s achievable for your body.Which would you choose: 1, 2 or 3? This isn’t traditional lipo. It’s HD lipo. For this patient, getting smaller isn’t the goal.He already works out. He already has the muscle. Dr. Gopal’s job is to use HD liposuction to bring out more of that existing definition and shape the areas around it so the body looks more athletic and defined. That’s why the markings matter. Before surgery even begins, Dr. Gopal is mapping out how the abs, chest, arms and surrounding areas should work together in the final result.Considering HD liposuction in Tampa? This is the part of the job that never gets old. There’s something special about knowing how different a patient’s life might feel on the other side. Not just because their body may look different, but because of everything that can come with it.Feeling more comfortable in their own skin. Saying yes to plans without thinking twice. Looking forward to summer instead of dreading it.Plastic surgery can change a body. Three small incisions instead of one long one.For some patients with diastasis recti, repairing the separated abdominal muscles doesn’t necessarily require a traditional tummy tuck.A tummy tuck makes sense when there’s loose skin that needs to be removed at the same time. But some patients are lean, don’t have much loose skin, and still have that persistent pooch from muscle separation. For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can repair the diastasis using a minimally invasive robotic approach through three small incisions, about 8 mm each, hidden along the bikini line. The key is choosing the right procedure for the right anatomy. If there’s significant loose skin or excess fat, repairing the muscles alone may actually make that looseness more noticeable. That’s why the consultation matters. It’s not just about seeing a belly pooch. It’s about understanding what’s causing it and what actually needs to be addressed.Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation in Tampa to find out which approach makes sense for you.
