Florida regulates where cosmetic surgery happens, not only who performs it, and the rule set is public. These questions come straight out of it.
Where will the operation actually happen? Under Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B8-9.0091 and Florida Statute 458.328, a physician office that removes more than 1,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat, or performs Level II or Level III surgery, must register with the Florida Department of Health, pass a pre-registration inspection, and post that registration on site. If the answer is an office rather than an accredited surgical facility, ask to see it. You can check status yourself through the Florida Board of Medicine.
How much liposuction is planned? The office setting caps liposuction at 4,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat, and where it is combined with abdominoplasty in one office operation the liposuction portion cannot exceed 1,000 cubic centimeters. A plan that runs up against either limit belongs in a surgical facility.
Who else is in the room? At Formation every general anesthesia case is performed in an accredited surgical facility with board-certified anesthesia professionals, and the same operating team works every case. Neck and jawline contouring is the only procedure done in the office, under an oral sedative and local anesthesia. Whichever practice you choose, verify the surgeon’s license and disciplinary history yourself. It takes about two minutes.
Most patients arrive naming a procedure when the useful thing to name is the problem. Three checks sort almost everyone.
Check one, recoil. Pinch the skin, release it, and watch. If it returns toward the body, elasticity is intact and fat removal alone will read cleanly. This is high-definition liposuction territory: at or near goal weight, training consistently, definition still not surfacing.
Check two, the standing fold. Look for skin that hangs at rest with no pinch needed. A fold that sits there on its own does not tighten, it gets removed, which means skin excision rather than liposuction. Take fat out from under loose skin and the looseness becomes more obvious.
Check three, the abdominal wall. Press in and feel for separation down the midline. Diastasis recti is a muscle problem. Training builds strength around it but cannot close it, so repair is the only route.
Clear all three and energy-based tightening becomes a reasonable finisher rather than the main event. Fail check two or three and tightening is the wrong tool no matter how the marketing reads. The virtual evaluation exists to tell you which check you fail before you commit to the drive.
Recovery here is managed rather than waited out, and the calendar is specific enough to plan a drive around.
After high-definition liposuction:
After abdominoplasty the clock runs longer: a nurse for the first 24 hours, desk work at 10 to 14 days, unrestricted training between six and eight weeks, and final shape at three to six months. Compression and lymphatic treatment continue throughout.
After neck and jawline contouring the clock is different again, because it is different anatomy. A chin garment goes on for the first few days. Back to work at one week, garment worn 12 to 24 hours a day. Swelling settles and the fat removal shows by weeks two to four. Skin tightening is visible at three months and final at six to nine.
The 60/40 Recovery Standard is how Formation frames this. The operation is 60 percent of your result and post-operative care is the other 40 percent. Poor aftercare can undo clean surgery, so Formation owns that phase rather than handing it off. Dr. Grandhige selected the lymphatic, nutrition and coaching providers himself, on outcomes.
Two scheduling points matter more in Lutz than in South Tampa. Driving is not advised right after a procedure and Lutz has no practical transit alternative, so line up a driver before you book anything. And compression through a Tampa summer is worth weighing: garments stay on continuously for weeks and the contour keeps refining for three to six months, so if you want to feel right shirtless in July, the surgery belongs in the preceding winter or early spring. The shaded trails at Lake Park off Dale Mabry make that first week of walking easier than a treadmill does.
These are the real risks, and what Formation does about each.
The device in the operating room is the same at every practice in Hillsborough County. What differs is what happens in the weeks on either side of it.
Health and diet get assessed before treatment is scheduled, not after. Nutrition, supplements and peptides get adjusted in the window immediately before and immediately after surgery, so the body builds as much structure as it can while it heals. Protein intake, inflammation control and lymphatic flow arrive as instructions with numbers attached rather than as encouragement. It is also why the honest answer at a consultation is sometimes to wait, change the goal, or address a health issue first. Surgery is not always offered. The instrument is identical everywhere. The thinking around it is not.
The best candidates are at or near goal weight and holding it, training consistently, and stuck on one area that diet and training will not move. For abdominoplasty, that means major weight changes and pregnancies are behind you. For neck and jawline work, it means reasonable skin elasticity, roughly skin ages 25 to 55. Wait if you are still actively losing weight, if you cannot commit to compression and the lymphatic visits from this distance, or if you have an event inside the next eight weeks.
If you are eighteen miles out, the first step does not have to be a drive.

The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, is by appointment only, and is a full surgical assessment: what bothers you and why, your training and health history, an anatomical evaluation, candidacy, options and limitations, and guidance on timing. That fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice.
On surgery day Dr. Grandhige operates himself, with the same anesthesia provider and operating team he uses on every case, in a Quad A accredited surgical facility. Then the twelve months begin: scheduled visits, clear milestones, compression and mobility guidance, and coordinated lymphatic care. Patients traveling further than Lutz get hotel stays arranged and hotel-room visits in the early days. From Lutz you go home the same day.
