It is tolled, it is cashless, and there is no booth, so whoever drives you needs a transponder or a plate the state can bill. US 19 is free and it is the wrong choice on a recovery day. It is a signal-heavy commercial corridor through Port Richey, Holiday and Tarpon Springs, and it adds time on every trip. Plan on about an hour each way on the parkway outside rush hour, and more than that between 7 and 9 in the morning heading south. Book post-operative visits midday and the drive stops being the problem.

Florida regulates where cosmetic surgery happens, not only who performs it. The rules are public, and almost no practice page in this market mentions them.
Where will the operation actually happen? Under Florida Statute 458.328, an office where a physician removes more than 1,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat by liposuction, or performs Level II or Level III surgery, must register with the Department of Health and pass an inspection before that registration is granted. The office must also name a designated physician who carries responsibility for compliance. If the answer to your question is an office rather than an accredited surgical facility, ask to see the registration. Check it yourself through the Florida Board of Medicine.
How much surgery is planned, and how long will it take? Rule 64B8-9.009 caps office liposuction at 4,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat. When liposuction is combined with abdominoplasty in one office operation, the liposuction portion cannot exceed 1,000 cubic centimeters. The same rule caps the planned duration of all combined procedures at eight hours and requires discharge within 24 hours of arrival. A plan that presses against any of those numbers belongs in a surgical facility, not an office.
Who else is in the room? Florida tightened this statute again in 2024, adding a requirement that a physician performing gluteal fat grafting maintain one physician to one patient through every phase of the procedure. The direction of travel is clear. Three lookups settle most of it, and none of them require calling the office.
Start with the license. The Florida Department of Health portal shows current status and any disciplinary history. Then check the board. “Board-certified” is not one thing, so ask which board and verify it directly rather than taking the website’s word for it. Dr. Grandhige’s certification is in general surgery and it verifies through the American Board of Surgery. Finish with the facility. If the practice operates in an office, its office surgery registration is a public record. If it operates in an accredited surgical facility, the accrediting body publishes its own directory.
Do those three before your first consultation, anywhere, and the rest of the conversation gets easier.
The device in the operating room is the same at every practice in Tampa Bay. What differs is what happens in the weeks on either side of it.
Health and diet get assessed before treatment is scheduled, not after. Nutrition, supplements and peptides get adjusted in the window immediately before and immediately after surgery, so the body builds as much structure as it can while it heals. Protein intake, inflammation control and lymphatic flow arrive as instructions with numbers attached rather than as encouragement. It is also why the honest answer at a consultation is sometimes to wait, change the goal, or address a health issue first. Surgery is not always offered. The instrument is identical everywhere. The thinking around it is not.
Most patients arrive naming a procedure when the useful thing to name is the problem. Three checks sort almost everyone.
Check one, recoil. Pinch the skin, release it, and watch. If it springs back toward the body, elasticity is intact and fat removal alone will read cleanly. That is high-definition liposuction territory: at or near goal weight, training consistently, definition still not surfacing.
Check two, the standing fold. Look for skin that hangs at rest, with no pinch needed. A fold that sits there on its own does not tighten. It gets removed, which means skin excision rather than liposuction. Take fat out from under loose skin and the looseness becomes more obvious, not less.
Check three, the abdominal wall. Press in and feel for separation down the midline. Diastasis recti is a muscle problem. Training builds strength around it but cannot close it, so repair is the only route.
Clear all three and energy-based tightening becomes a reasonable finisher rather than the main event. Fail check two or three and tightening is the wrong tool no matter how the marketing reads. The virtual evaluation exists to tell you which check you fail before you commit to the drive.
Recovery here is managed rather than waited out, and the calendar is specific enough to build a travel plan around.
After high-definition liposuction:
After abdominoplasty the clock runs longer. A nurse stays for the first 24 hours, desk work resumes at 10 to 14 days, training goes unrestricted between six and eight weeks, and final shape arrives at three to six months. Compression and lymphatic treatment run throughout.
After neck and jawline contouring the clock is different again, because it is different anatomy. A chin garment goes on for the first few days. Back to work at one week, garment worn 12 to 24 hours a day. Swelling settles and the fat removal shows by weeks two to four. Skin tightening is visible at three months and final between six and nine.
The 60/40 Recovery Standard is how Formation frames all of it. The operation is 60 percent of your result and post-operative care is the other 40 percent. Poor aftercare can undo clean surgery, so Formation owns that phase rather than handing it off. Dr. Grandhige selected the lymphatic, nutrition and coaching providers himself, on outcomes.
The best candidates are at or near goal weight and holding it, training consistently, and stuck on one area that diet and training will not move. For abdominoplasty, that means major weight changes and pregnancies are behind you. For neck and jawline work, it means reasonable skin elasticity, roughly skin ages 25 to 55.
Wait if you are still actively losing weight, if you cannot commit to the compression and the lymphatic visits from this distance, or if you have an event inside the next eight weeks.
At eighteen miles you drive home. At forty, the first few days work better if you do not.
Formation arranges hotel stays at partner properties near the office, and Dr. Grandhige visits patients in their rooms during the early days so they do not have to come in at all. For New Port Richey it is the practical plan rather than a luxury. Driving is not advised right after a procedure and there is no transit alternative from Pasco, so a driver has to be arranged regardless. Two or three nights in Tampa removes the two longest round trips of the whole recovery.
One scheduling point is worth weighing separately. Compression garments stay on continuously for weeks and the contour keeps refining for three to six months. If you want to feel right on the water in July, the surgery belongs in the preceding winter or early spring. For the first week of walking, the flat paved stretch of the Suncoast Trail and the shaded riverfront at Sims Park both beat a treadmill.
Patients rarely lead with a measurement. What they mention is that nobody could tell.
