As the American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes it, this is a way to reshape specific areas, not a weight-loss treatment. The fat cells taken out during the procedure are gone permanently, so a lasting result depends on holding a steady weight afterward.

What Florida Law Requires Of The Facility
In Florida, any office that removes more than 1,000 cubic centimeters of fat during liposuction has to register with the state, and the ceiling for fat removed in an office setting is capped. These are enforceable limits, not guidelines. Any office where liposuction removes more than 1,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat, or where Level II or Level III procedures are performed, must register with the Department of Health, which runs preregistration and annual inspections. Most clinic pages tell you to choose an accredited surgeon and stop there. The specifics are what actually protect you. Under Florida’s office surgery rules, a facility doing higher-volume liposuction or deeper sedation is either inspected by the state every year or holds accreditation from a nationally recognized body. Formation operates in Quad A-accredited surgical facilities. Dr. Grandhige uses the same board-certified anesthesia provider and the same operating-room team on every case, which is how a facility keeps that standard consistent rather than case by case. How Recovery Actually Works
At Formation, the surgery is 60 percent of the result and the recovery is the other 40 percent. That is the exact framing Dr. Grandhige uses, and it is why the practice runs recovery directly instead of handing you a garment and a follow-up card.
Here is the real timeline for body liposuction. The first two to three days bring swelling and soreness, and you are up walking early on purpose. Through the first week you wear compression continuously and stay on light activity, and lymphatic treatment begins at your first post-op visit. Across weeks two to four the swelling steadily drops, lymphatic work continues, and most patients are back in the gym without restriction as long as the garment stays on. Definition becomes visible around six to twelve weeks as inflammation settles. The contour keeps refining through three to six months, and skin pliability and normal sensation return over the following six to twelve months.
Two things separate this from waiting it out. Compression and lymphatic timing are handled as part of the procedure, and every patient is followed for a full year. Nearly all of them stay engaged for the entire year, which is how a small issue gets caught early instead of after it has set.
When Liposuction Is The Wrong Choice
Sometimes the honest answer is no. If loose skin or muscle separation is the real problem, liposuction will not fix it, and on loose skin it can make things look worse. About a third of the people who come in for a liposuction consultation leave with a recommendation to wait, to lose weight first, or to consider a different procedure.
When the abdominal wall has separated after pregnancy or major weight change, or when skin will not retract on its own, the right procedure is a tummy tuck, which removes skin and repairs the muscle.
