The Four-Layer Neck Read
Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once, and liposuction treats only one of them. Before recommending anything, Dr. Grandhige reads all four layers. Each one has its own fix.
Layer One: Fat
This is the fat under the chin and along the jaw. Genetics decide much of it, which is why it often stays put through weight loss and exercise. Liposuction removes it, and the fat cells taken out don’t come back. Hold a stable weight and the contour holds with you.
Layer Two: Platysma Muscle and Platysmal Bands
The platysma is the thin sheet of muscle across the front of the neck. When its edges separate, they show as vertical cords called platysmal bands. Fat removal and skin tightening don’t correct bands. Where bands are present, the layer-two answer is platysmaplasty combined with MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture.
Layer Three: Skin and the Fibroseptal Network
Under the skin sits the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue that anchors skin to the muscle beneath it. Renuvion and FaceTite work from underneath, reaching the deepest layer of the skin and that network directly. Lasers and microneedling work from the surface down and can’t reach that foundation.
