Neck And Jawline Contouring In Northdale, FL
Neck and jawline contouring removes the fat that hides your jaw and tightens the skin underneath, so your neck finally matches the rest of you. Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs it in the office at Formation in Tampa, with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, and most patients are back at work in a week.
What Neck And Jawline Contouring Does
Neck and jawline contouring takes out the stubborn fat under your chin and along your jaw, then tightens the skin so it settles over the new shape. Most people who ask about it are already fit. They’ve done the diet and the training, and the area under the chin never changed.
The work happens in Formation’s office. You take an oral sedative, the area is numbed, and Dr. Grandhige works through very small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. He removes fat with your natural jaw angles in mind. Then Renuvion, a helium plasma device, or FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted device, goes beneath the skin so it tightens down over the muscle and bone.
Fat removal alone often leaves loose skin behind, and tightening alone can’t clear a fat pad. That pairing is the logic behind Formation’s neck and jawline contouring in Tampa, and it’s why your first visit is an assessment, not a sales pitch.
How defined would you go?
Not everyone wants the same look from HD liposuction. Some prefer a smooth, subtle contour, while others want their abs to stand out.
Here’s how the three levels of definition differ:
01. Low definition: A leaner, natural-looking abdomen with subtle definition and light contouring around the underlying muscles.
02. Medium definition: More visible separation between the abdominal muscles, with added definition through the abs and obliques without a sharply etched six-pack.
03. High definition: More pronounced sculpting around the abs and obliques to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more chiseled, athletic look.
Dr. Gopal tailors his HD liposuction technique to the level of definition you’re looking for, while considering what’s achievable for your body.

This isn’t traditional lipo. It’s HD lipo.
For this patient, getting smaller isn’t the goal.
He already works out. He already has the muscle. Dr. Gopal’s job is to use HD liposuction to bring out more of that existing definition and shape the areas around it so the body looks more athletic and defined.
That’s why the markings matter. Before surgery even begins, Dr. Gopal is mapping out how the abs, chest, arms and surrounding areas should work together in the final result.

This is the part of the job that never gets old.
There’s something special about knowing how different a patient’s life might feel on the other side.
Not just because their body may look different, but because of everything that can come with it.
Feeling more comfortable in their own skin.
Saying yes to plans without thinking twice.
Looking forward to summer instead of dreading it.
Plastic surgery can change a body. But sometimes, what matters most is how differently someone gets to experience their life afterward.
And that’s a pretty incredible part of what we get to do at Formation Tampa.

Three small incisions instead of one long one.
For some patients with diastasis recti, repairing the separated abdominal muscles doesn’t necessarily require a traditional tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck makes sense when there’s loose skin that needs to be removed at the same time. But some patients are lean, don’t have much loose skin, and still have that persistent pooch from muscle separation.
For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can repair the diastasis using a minimally invasive robotic approach through three small incisions, about 8 mm each, hidden along the bikini line.
The key is choosing the right procedure for the right anatomy. If there’s significant loose skin or excess fat, repairing the muscles alone may actually make that looseness more noticeable.
That’s why the consultation matters. It’s not just about seeing a belly pooch. It’s about understanding what’s causing it and what actually needs to be addressed.

The last one got 11/10.
Some of the biggest factors affecting liposuction results have nothing to do with what happens in the operating room.
Dr. Gopal rates 13 factors that can influence the final result, from working out before surgery and maintaining a stable weight to compression garments, skin elasticity, and lymphatic massage.
A few of his ratings might surprise you.
For example, he rates skin elasticity a 10/10 because even after the fat is removed, the skin still needs to contract and settle over the new contour.
And lymphatic massage? He gives it an 11/10 because of the role it plays in his recovery protocol, helping manage swelling and supporting how the skin settles over the newly sculpted areas.
The takeaway: great liposuction results depend on more than the surgery itself.
Patient preparation, anatomy, recovery, and long-term weight maintenance all play a role.

Six to seven hours.
That’s how long an HD liposuction procedure can take with Dr. Gopal’s approach.
He’s not simply removing fat. He’s evaluating every square inch, considering the underlying anatomy, and shaping how each contour transitions into the next.
It’s detailed, physically demanding work.
So when Dr. Gopal says, “Someone’s gotta sweat for the fat to come off,” he means it.

Will neck lipo give you the jawline you want?
It depends…
Someone can have fullness under the chin and assume the answer is neck liposuction. But what looks like “fat” from the outside can actually come from several different structures.
Some fat sits directly beneath the skin and can respond very well to liposuction.
But fullness can also come from deeper fat beneath the platysma, the salivary glands under the jaw, muscles under the chin, or even the natural projection of the chin and jaw itself.
That distinction can completely change what neck liposuction can realistically accomplish.
This is why evaluating the anatomy matters before deciding on a procedure.
For the right anatomy, neck liposuction can create a significant change in the neck and jawline.
But when deeper structures are contributing to the fullness, liposuction alone may not create the contour someone is expecting.
A good neck lipo consultation should figure that out first.

Want more definition than workouts gave you?
Traditional liposuction focuses primarily on removing fat. HD liposuction goes further. It requires understanding the underlying muscle anatomy, where to remove fat, where to preserve it, and how each contour works together to create natural-looking definition.
That’s the art of it. The goal isn’t to give every patient the same abs or the same body. It’s to work with the anatomy that’s already there and determine how much definition will look right for that individual.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in high-definition liposuction and advanced body contouring, using nearly two decades of surgical experience to create results that look sculpted, athletic, and intentional.

The Four-Layer Neck Read
Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. The Four-Layer Neck Read is how Dr. Grandhige sorts them before he plans anything, and each layer has its own answer. Treat the wrong layer and your neck still looks soft.
Layer One: Fat
Fat under the chin and along the jaw blurs the line between face and neck, and it’s the layer that responds to neck liposuction. Dr. Grandhige treats liposuction as sculpture. He leaves enough fat to keep the neck smooth, because over-aggressive removal causes irregularities and makes a neck look older sooner.
Layer Two: Platysma Muscle And Platysmal Bands
The platysma is the thin sheet of muscle across the front of your neck. With age, its edges can separate into vertical cords called platysmal bands. Liposuction won’t flatten a band, and clearing the fat in front of one can make it easier to see.
Where bands are present, the layer-two answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, placed with platysmaplasty. Barbed threads dissolve. This suture is nonabsorbable and can be removed, and the lift is there the day it’s placed.
Layer Three: Skin And The Fibroseptal Network
Fat under the chin and along the jaw blurs the line between face and neck, and it’s the layer that responds to neck liposuction. Dr. Grandhige treats liposuction as sculpture. He leaves enough fat to keep the neck smooth, because over-aggressive removal causes irregularities and makes a neck look older sooner.
Layer Four: Chin Projection And Jaw Angle
The last layer is the frame. A short chin or a soft jaw angle blurs the neckline however little fat sits under it, and liposuction can’t add projection.
Structural filler can. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, placed along the chin and jaw angle builds the projection that fat removal can only reveal. For some men, that small change turns a clean neck into a superhero jawline.
When Weight Loss Changed Your Neck
Fast weight loss can leave a neck with less fat and looser skin, and that changes which layer matters most. If a GLP-1 medication already emptied the area under your chin, liposuction may have little left to take. Removing more could leave the skin looser. In that case the read points to layer three, and tightening carries more of the result.
In the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ 2025 Procedural Statistics Report, neck lifts rose 21 percent over the previous year. In the same report, 82 percent of member surgeons said they’d received consultation requests tied to GLP-1 use. ASPS attaches a caution to that figure: its data don’t show that GLP-1 use caused growth in any specific procedure.
Surgeons in the same report said patients mostly want to look like themselves again after weight loss, pregnancy or aging. That matches Dr. Grandhige’s practice, where most patients are already fit and want help with the one area healthy living can’t fix.
Who Neck Contouring Isn’t For
Neck contouring is a finishing tool, and Dr. Grandhige will tell you when it’s the wrong one. Sometimes he doesn’t offer surgery at all.
Liposuction isn’t weight loss. The best candidates are near their goal weight, with skin elasticity in roughly the skin-age 25 to 55 window. Skin age and birthday don’t always match, so that call is made in person.
Hanging skin needs a different operation. When laxity goes past what tightening can reach, the fix is an excisional neck lift. Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do that work well and points you to the right one.
Bands and a short chin need their own plan. Skip layers two and four, and a neck treated only for fat can come out cleaner yet still unfinished.
Taking more fat doesn’t buy a better result. Over-resection causes irregularities and loose skin, and it ages poorly.
Why Dr. Grandhige Plans Every Neck Himself
Dr. Gopal Grandhige evaluates each patient, designs the plan and performs the procedure himself. He’s a board-certified general surgeon, certified by the American Board of Surgery, who specializes in aesthetic surgery and has more than 15 years in surgical practice. He earned his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School. He then completed a full general surgery residency and fellowships in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery.
Burn and critical care training taught him how tissue heals under stress, and that shapes how far he goes in a neck and when he stops. Neck and jawline work is among his most frequent procedures. He limits his surgical volume so he can stay involved before, during and after each one.
Two Ways To Start
Start with Hanna, Formation’s patient coordinator, in a complimentary virtual evaluation. In about 20 minutes, she reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you decide whether to come in.
The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee. It’s a full surgical assessment of all four layers, with an honest look at options, limits and timing. The fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation.
Your Recovery, Week By Week
The first week is the hardest part, and it’s shorter than most people expect. Formation’s neck patients typically heal on this schedule:
- First few days: mild swelling, bruising and tightness, with a chin compression garment on.
- One week: back to work, social plans and training, still wearing the garment 12 to 24 hours a day.
- Two to four weeks: swelling keeps settling and the fat removal shows.
- Three months: skin tightening becomes visible along the jawline.
- Six to nine months: the final result, once the skin has finished tightening.
The middle weeks test your patience. Time weddings, trips and photos to that calendar, not to the one-week mark.
The 60/40 Recovery Standard
Dr. Grandhige puts aftercare in numbers: the procedure is about 60 percent of the result, and post-operative care is the other 40. Poor aftercare can undo good surgery, so Formation runs recovery itself.
You get scheduled follow-up visits, clear milestones and garment guidance. You also get providers for lymphatic care and nutrition he has vetted personally. He follows patients for a full year.
The Weeks Around Your Procedure Day
Your health and diet are assessed before treatment. In the window right before and after, nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted so your body builds as much structure as it can, with guidance on protein intake and inflammation.
That’s the center of Formation’s practice philosophy. The cannula and the energy device are the same instruments any practice can buy. The thinking around them isn’t.
From Northdale To South Howard
Northdale sits outside Tampa city limits in unincorporated northwest Hillsborough County, even though many homes carry a Tampa 33624 mailing address. Census Bureau figures counted 23,033 residents in 2020, and the community’s median age sits around 41. That’s squarely inside the skin-age range where tightening still has elasticity to work with.
The drive south is direct. North Dale Mabry Highway runs along Northdale’s eastern edge and continues unbroken into South Tampa, and the Veterans Expressway along the southwest border is the other option. From Northdale Golf & Tennis Club on Northdale Boulevard, Formation’s office at 1315 South Howard Avenue, Suite 102, is about 12 miles away in a straight line. Howard carries northbound traffic only past the building, so the easiest final approach comes up from Bayshore Boulevard.
Procedure day needs one extra arrangement. The oral sedative means someone else drives you home, so line up that ride before you book. Your chin garment is fitted before you leave, and the year of follow-up visits soon becomes a familiar Dale Mabry run.
What Results Look Like And How Long They Last
Expect a sharper jawline and a cleaner break between jaw and neck, in a profile that still looks like you. People tend to say you look rested or fit without guessing why.
One patient, a professional in his 40s, had always carried fullness under his chin that never moved with weight loss, and he hated how he looked in photos. After targeted neck liposuction and jawline contouring, colleagues told him he looked more rested. He said his face finally matched the rest of his body, and he started stepping into pictures again.
Results are long-lasting. The fat cells removed don’t return, though aging continues and weight gain can enlarge the ones left behind. When you browse the before-and-after gallery, Dr. Grandhige’s advice is to look for a before photo that resembles your neck today.
Your Next Step From Northdale
A neck that doesn’t match the rest of you usually has its reason in one of four layers, often more than one. Find out which before you choose a treatment. Start with Hanna’s complimentary virtual evaluation, or book the in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige, where the fee can be applied toward any procedure or product. Either way, you’ll leave knowing whether contouring fits your neck, and if it doesn’t, what does.
Frequently Asked Questions About Neck And Jawline Contouring In Northdale
Most patients return to work after one week, wearing a chin compression garment 12 to 24 hours a day. Tightening shows at about three months, and the final result arrives at six to nine months.
No. Neck and jawline contouring is done in Formation’s office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia. Because of the sedative, you’ll need someone else to drive you home.
They’re very small and discreet, placed under the chin and behind the ears.
After about one week. Keep wearing the chin garment as directed while the skin tightens.
They’re long-lasting. The fat cells removed don’t come back, and removing excess fat can slow the look of future laxity. Your neck still ages, and weight gain can enlarge the fat cells that remain.
Possibly, though the plan may change. If the weight loss cleared most of the fat, loose skin may be the main issue, and tightening or a neck lift referral may fit better than more liposuction.
No. Bands come from the platysma muscle, which is layer two. The layer-two answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, placed with platysmaplasty.
That’s the goal Dr. Grandhige plans around. He keeps your natural jaw angles, avoids over-removing fat and avoids an over-tightened look, so people notice you rather than the procedure.
