One of the largest published reviews of thread lifting, a review of 111,948 procedures across a cosmetic surgery group’s clinics in Japan, puts the typical effect at about six to twelve months and notes that PDO threads break down within six to eight. That’s one group’s practice experience across several thread materials, not a controlled measurement, so treat it as a planning range.
A separate June 2026 study in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, drawn from a single clinic network in Japan, built its complication risk score from two variables: age and the number of threads placed.
