Neck Liposuction In Lutz, FL
Neck liposuction removes the pad of fat that sits under your chin and along your jawline. Taking that pad out sharpens the line between your face and your neck. At Formation it happens in the office, with local anesthesia and an oral sedative, and most patients are back at work in a week.
It works on fat. It does not tighten loose skin, and it does not repair a slack muscle. That is why the evaluation carries more weight than the procedure does.
What The Procedure Actually Removes
There is a specific fat compartment under the chin, above the platysma muscle. Diet does not reach it well. Plenty of fit people carry it, which is the part that frustrates patients most: they have done the work everywhere else and the neck did not follow.
A thin cannula goes in through small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. The fat comes out. Fat cells that are removed do not come back, so with steady weight the change holds.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons counted 24,000 submental and chin liposuction procedures in 2024, up from 23,667 the year before. Read that number with its footnote attached: it counts procedures by ASPS member surgeons only. Board-certified general surgeons who perform aesthetic work are not in that tally at all, so the real national figure is higher than 24,000 and nobody knows by how much. It is still the best public anchor available, and it tells you this is a common, well-established operation rather than something novel.
Dr. Grandhige performs neck and jawline liposuction often enough that it sits among Formation’s five most frequent procedures, alongside high-definition liposuction and abdominoplasty. If you want the wider view of the procedure before you narrow to your own case, the neck and jawline liposuction overview for Tampa covers it.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Most necks are aging in more than one layer at once. Fat removal treats one of them. Dr. Grandhige reads all four before recommending anything, because the wrong instrument on the wrong layer is how patients end up disappointed with a technically clean surgery.
Layer One, The Fat
This is the layer liposuction owns. If the fullness under your chin flattens when you tilt your head back, and you can pinch it, there is fat to take. Removing it is the single highest-yield move in the whole neck, and it is permanent.
Layer Two, The Platysma And Its Bands
The platysma is a thin sheet of muscle spanning the front of the neck. With age its edges separate and pull forward into visible cords, called platysmal bands. Suctioning fat off the front of a slack platysma does not fix cords. It can make them easier to see.
Where bands are the problem, the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, paired with platysmaplasty to bring the muscle edges back together. Where the bands are mild and active rather than structural, Botox, a botulinum toxin, is an option. The FDA approved Botox for platysma bands on October 18, 2024, which makes it a recent addition to the neck toolkit rather than an off-label workaround. Some patients do better with non-surgical neck and jawline contouring and no surgery at all.
Layer Three, Skin And The Fibroseptal Network
Skin sits on a connective-tissue scaffold called the fibroseptal network. That scaffold is what holds the shape. Lasers and microneedling work from the surface downward and cannot reach it.
Energy-based tightening can, because it works from underneath. At Formation that step follows the fat removal in the same visit, using Renuvion, a helium plasma device, or FaceTite, a radiofrequency contouring device. Both are 510(k) cleared, not FDA approved, and the distinction matters when you are comparing marketing claims.
A published series on radiofrequency-assisted neck contouring reported roughly 93 percent patient satisfaction at six months with no serious complications requiring further intervention. Take that alongside its limits: it is Level 4 evidence, the cohort was a single ethnic population, and six months is not a decade. Useful signal, not proof.
If the skin has passed the point where tightening reaches it, excision is the honest answer. Dr. Grandhige does not perform neck skin excision, and Formation will point you to a surgeon who does that work well rather than talking you into a smaller procedure.
Layer Four, Chin Projection And Jaw Angle
Some jawlines are not blurred by fat or skin. They are set back by bone. If your chin sits behind the plane of your lower lip, or your jaw angle is soft, taking fat out will not build the frame you are picturing.
Where the jaw needs volume, the tools are Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, and Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, placed along the border and angle. Patients ask for a superhero jawline. When the real problem is frame, fat removal is the wrong instrument, and saying so in the consultation saves you a procedure that could not have worked.
There is one more structural limit worth knowing before you book anything. The sharpness of the angle between your chin and your neck is partly set by where your hyoid bone sits. A low-set hyoid caps how crisp that angle can get no matter how much fat comes out. The position of your submandibular glands does the same thing. Both get checked by hand at your evaluation, and both are reasons Dr. Grandhige sometimes tells a patient the result will be good rather than dramatic.
Six hours. Hundreds of decisions.
High-definition liposuction is as much about precision as it is about technique.
Dr. Gopal can spend 6–7 hours on a single HD liposuction procedure, carefully evaluating the body’s anatomy, refining muscle definition, and making sure each contour transitions naturally into the next.
And that level of attention doesn’t change as the hours go by.
Because the final result is shaped by hundreds of small decisions made throughout the procedure.

This is not your typical liposuction. 👀
Most people think liposuction is simply about removing unwanted fat. But high-definition liposuction takes a different approach.
Before surgery, Dr. Gopal carefully maps out the patient’s natural anatomy, marking the chest, abdomen, and waist to guide where fat will be removed and where it should be preserved.
Why does that matter?
Because removing fat evenly isn’t necessarily going to create definition. HD liposuction uses strategic fat removal to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more sculpted, athletic appearance.
And those lines? They’re part of the planning that makes this level of precision possible.
The photos show an actual patient immediately after surgery. Swelling is still present, and the final results will develop as healing progresses.

Does fat move after lipo?
It’s a common concern, especially when someone notices weight gain in an area that wasn’t treated.
Here’s what actually happens.
The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. But if someone gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still grow, including in areas that weren’t treated.
The fat didn’t move. The body gained weight.
That’s why Dr. Gopal emphasizes being at a weight patients can realistically maintain before surgery. Not the lowest weight they can reach, but one they can sustain long after recovery.

Want a more sculpted body?
High-definition liposuction takes body contouring a step further. Instead of simply removing excess fat, it focuses on sculpting around the body’s natural muscle structure to create more visible definition and a more athletic contour.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in HD liposuction, customizing each procedure based on the patient’s anatomy, body shape, and desired level of definition.
Because the goal isn’t to give everyone the same body. It’s to create a result that works with their natural anatomy.

Don’t plan lipo 2 months before vacation.
If the goal is to enjoy a more sculpted, defined body next summer, the planning needs to start months before that.
Fall is one of our busiest seasons at Formation, and there’s a reason for it. Many patients are already thinking about how they want to look and feel next summer.
But getting there takes time.
At Formation, Dr. Gopal requires at least four weeks of preparation before surgery. That time is spent preparing patients physically and mentally for the procedure and recovery.
After surgery, swelling needs to go down, the skin needs to contract, and the tissues need time to settle into their new contour.
It can take 6–9 months for results to look and feel natural.
That’s why Dr. Gopal recommends planning liposuction 6–12 months ahead, especially when there’s a specific season or vacation in mind.
If next summer is the goal, now is the time to start the conversation.

How defined would you go?
Not everyone wants the same look from HD liposuction. Some prefer a smooth, subtle contour, while others want their abs to stand out.
Here’s how the three levels of definition differ:
01. Low definition: A leaner, natural-looking abdomen with subtle definition and light contouring around the underlying muscles.
02. Medium definition: More visible separation between the abdominal muscles, with added definition through the abs and obliques without a sharply etched six-pack.
03. High definition: More pronounced sculpting around the abs and obliques to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more chiseled, athletic look.
Dr. Gopal tailors his HD liposuction technique to the level of definition you’re looking for, while considering what’s achievable for your body.
Which would you choose: 1, 2 or 3? Tell us in the comments!

This isn’t traditional lipo. It’s HD lipo.
For this patient, getting smaller isn’t the goal.
He already works out. He already has the muscle. Dr. Gopal’s job is to use HD liposuction to bring out more of that existing definition and shape the areas around it so the body looks more athletic and defined.
That’s why the markings matter. Before surgery even begins, Dr. Gopal is mapping out how the abs, chest, arms and surrounding areas should work together in the final result.

This is the part of the job that never gets old.
There’s something special about knowing how different a patient’s life might feel on the other side.
Not just because their body may look different, but because of everything that can come with it.
Feeling more comfortable in their own skin.
Saying yes to plans without thinking twice.
Looking forward to summer instead of dreading it.
Plastic surgery can change a body. But sometimes, what matters most is how differently someone gets to experience their life afterward.
And that’s a pretty incredible part of what we get to do at Formation Tampa.

Three small incisions instead of one long one.
For some patients with diastasis recti, repairing the separated abdominal muscles doesn’t necessarily require a traditional tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck makes sense when there’s loose skin that needs to be removed at the same time. But some patients are lean, don’t have much loose skin, and still have that persistent pooch from muscle separation.
For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can repair the diastasis using a minimally invasive robotic approach through three small incisions, about 8 mm each, hidden along the bikini line.
The key is choosing the right procedure for the right anatomy. If there’s significant loose skin or excess fat, repairing the muscles alone may actually make that looseness more noticeable.
That’s why the consultation matters. It’s not just about seeing a belly pooch. It’s about understanding what’s causing it and what actually needs to be addressed.

Who This Procedure Fits
The strongest candidates share four things.
Fat you can pinch under the chin. Skin with recoil left in it, which in practice tends to mean skin age roughly 25 to 55, and that is about elasticity rather than your birthday. Weight that has held steady rather than weight still in motion. And an expectation set at improvement instead of perfection.
The patients who do best are often already fit. One professional in their forties came to Formation having assumed the neck was simply how they looked, because it had never responded to weight loss. After neck liposuction with jawline contouring, colleagues said they looked more rested. What they mentioned afterward was smaller and more specific than the surgery: they stopped avoiding photographs. You can see the range of outcomes in the before and after gallery.
The patients who do worst are the ones whose real issue was in layer two, three or four, and who found a provider willing to suction fat anyway.
Recovery Week By Week
First few days. Mild swelling, bruising and tightness. A chin compression garment goes on.
One week. Back to work and back to social plans. Back to training, too. The garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day through this stretch.
Two to four weeks. Swelling keeps settling and the fat removal becomes clearly visible.
Three months. Skin tightening shows up, with real change in the jawline.
Six to nine months. Final result, once the tightening has fully matured.
The number that surprises people is the last one. The fat is gone on day one, but the shape you keep takes most of a year to arrive. Plan weddings and photographs accordingly.
What Happens In The Room
No hospital, no general anesthesia. You take an oral sedative, the area is numbed with local anesthesia, and the procedure runs in Formation’s office suite. Incisions are small, placed under the chin and behind the ears, and they fade to near-invisible in most patients.
Fat comes out conservatively. Over-resection in the neck creates irregularities and ages badly, so the goal is a clean contour rather than the maximum volume removed. Renuvion or FaceTite follows to help the skin lay down over the new shape.
The team does not rotate. Dr. Grandhige works with the same anesthesia provider and the same staff on every case, and his own physician assistant assists on all of his surgeries. He is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery, with fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery, and over fifteen years of operating in Tampa.
One nerve deserves a mention because it is the structure most at risk in this operation: the marginal mandibular nerve, which moves the corner of the lower lip. Its path varies between people. Temporary weakness is uncommon and typically resolves. Knowing the anatomy is the mitigation, which is the argument for depth of surgical training over volume of cosmetic cases.
Facility standards are not static, either. Florida HB 1175, Chapter 2026-89, took effect on July 1, 2026 and raised the safety requirements for in-office surgical suites under section 553.884 of the state statutes. Formation’s surgical facilities are Quad A accredited, which under Florida Rule 64B8-9.009 carries an exemption from annual state inspection.
Preparation And Aftercare At Formation
The instrument is the same at every practice that owns one. The thinking around it is not.
Before treatment, your health and diet get assessed. Nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window immediately before and immediately after, so the body has what it needs to build the most structure it can while it heals. Lymphatic treatment starts at your first post-operative visit, not weeks later.
Dr. Grandhige calls it the 60/40 Recovery Standard: the surgery is 60 percent of the result and active aftercare is the other 40. Poor aftercare can undo good surgery, which is why Formation keeps that work in-house instead of handing you a pamphlet. Follow-up runs for a full year. More on how Formation approaches surgery if you want the reasoning behind that.
Getting Here From Lutz
Lutz is not a city. It is an unincorporated census-designated place, 23,707 people as of the 2020 census, spread across four ZIP codes: 33548, 33549, 33558 and 33559. Those ZIPs run north past the Hillsborough County line to State Road 54, so part of what the post office calls Lutz actually sits in southern Pasco County. Locals call that stretch Pasco Lutz. It changes nothing clinically. It does change which county your paperwork lists, so get it right on your intake form.
From the Old Lutz School on US 41, the office at 1315 South Howard Avenue, Suite 102 is roughly twenty miles south. Two roads carry most of that trip. North Dale Mabry Highway, State Road 597, runs straight south through Carrollwood into South Tampa with traffic lights the whole way. The Veterans Expressway, State Road 589, is tolled and all-electronic, and moves faster outside rush hour.
The last half mile is where Lutz patients get turned around. Howard Avenue and Armenia Avenue operate as a one-way pair where they meet Interstate 275, Armenia carrying southbound traffic and Howard carrying northbound. Coming down from Lutz you arrive on the Armenia side. Cross over to Howard below Kennedy Boulevard rather than trying to work south on Howard through West Tampa.
That twenty miles has a practical consequence. Lymphatic treatment starts at your first post-operative visit, and you will make several trips in the first month. Patients traveling from Miami or Orlando stay in hotels near the office, where Formation holds relationships and Dr. Grandhige visits them in their rooms during the early days. From Lutz you do those visits from home, which is a real advantage over the out-of-state patients sitting in the same waiting room.
Your Two Ways To Start
Formation offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you decide whether to come in. That format is the free one.
The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee. It is a full surgical assessment: hands-on evaluation of all four layers, hyoid and gland position, skin recoil, and an honest read on what the procedure will and will not do for you. The fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice. Dr. Grandhige designs every surgical plan himself, and he does sometimes recommend waiting or not operating. Dr. Ahmad Saad, Formation’s board-certified plastic surgeon, rounds out the team.
The Short Version For Lutz Patients
Neck liposuction is one of the highest-return procedures in aesthetic surgery when the problem is genuinely fat, and one of the most disappointing when it is not. The difference is decided before anyone picks up a cannula.
Formation reads four layers: the fat, the platysma, the skin and its scaffold, and the frame underneath. Each layer has its own answer, and some of those answers are not surgery. For the right Lutz patient, this is a single office visit under local anesthesia, a week off, and a jawline that holds for years. For the wrong one, it is the wrong operation, and you should hear that from a surgeon rather than find out at three months.
Twenty miles is a short trip for that kind of clarity.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It runs in the office with local anesthesia plus an oral sedative. That avoids general anesthesia entirely and shortens recovery. Florida raised in-office surgical suite standards on July 1, 2026 under HB 1175, and Formation's facilities are Quad A accredited.
One week for both. Work, social plans and training all resume at that point. The chin compression garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day through the first week.
On its own, no. Loose skin is layer three, and it needs energy-based tightening working underneath the skin, or in advanced cases surgical excision. Formation adds Renuvion or FaceTite in the same visit for exactly this reason.
Elasticity decides, not age. The working window is roughly skin age 25 to 55, and plenty of people fall outside their chronological bracket in both directions. Skin recoil gets tested by hand at your evaluation.
Then fat removal is the wrong tool. A recessed chin or soft jaw angle needs volume added along the border, using calcium hydroxylapatite or hyaluronic acid. Where your hyoid bone sits also limits how sharp the chin-to-neck angle can become, regardless of technique.
The fat cells removed do not regrow, so with stable weight the fat correction is permanent. Aging continues in the other three layers. Removing that fat can slow the appearance of future laxity, but it does not stop the clock.
Usually yes, until your weight holds steady. ASPS reported that over 800,000 aesthetic patients used weight-loss medications in 2024, with 39 percent considering a surgical procedure. Rapid loss frequently leaves skin laxity under the chin, and operating mid-loss risks a result that no longer fits your face six months later.
The marginal mandibular nerve is the structure most at risk in neck liposuction, and its path varies between people. Temporary weakness is uncommon and typically resolves. This is where a surgeon's depth of anatomical training matters more than the device on the tray.
