Skin with recoil still has working elasticity. Skin without it will not tighten from an energy device, a garment, or another year of training.
Check Two, The Standing Fold
Stand upright, relaxed, arms at your sides. Not flexed, not sucking in. Does skin hang at rest and form a fold over the lower abdomen? A fold that’s present standing still is a volume-of-skin problem. That skin has to come off. Nothing tightens it back into place.
Check Three, The Abdominal Wall
Lie flat, lift your head and shoulders a few inches, and run your fingers down the midline between the rectus muscles. A gap you can sink two or more fingers into is diastasis recti. That’s a muscle problem, not a skin problem or a fat problem, and it’s repaired surgically during a tummy tuck.
Clear all three checks and you’re likely a contouring candidate rather than a skin-removal candidate. Fail check two or check three and you’re in abdominoplasty territory. Fail all three and the conversation is about a tummy tuck with liposuction added for the transitions.
The Preparation Window Around Your Surgery
This is the part most practices skip, and it’s the part Dr. Grandhige built the practice around.
Your health and diet get assessed before anything is scheduled. Nutrition, supplements and peptides are then adjusted in the window immediately before surgery and again in the window immediately after, so your body is building as much structure as it can while it heals. Protein intake, inflammation control, and lymphatic flow all get specific instructions rather than a printed handout.
Preparation is treated as part of the procedure. You get pre-op instructions, education on what recovery will actually feel like, nutritional and protein guidance, compression planning, and a logistics plan for the first week at home. - Weeks two and three. Gradual return to light activity. Compression stays on. Most patients return to work between day 10 and day 14. Lymphatic treatments begin at your first post-op visit and continue through this stretch, which is what keeps fluid from collecting.
- Weeks four to six. Swelling improves noticeably. Lymphatic work continues. Exercise clearance typically lands at six weeks, with unrestricted training between six and eight weeks depending on how the muscle repair is holding.
- Three to six months. Final shape keeps refining as residual swelling resolves. This is when patients stop qualifying their own before-and-after photos.
Dr. Grandhige follows every patient for a full year. Nearly all of them stay for the full year.
The 60/40 Recovery Standard
Formation treats the operation as 60 percent of the result and post-operative care as the other 40.

Compression Through A Lutz Summer
Compression garments are worn continuously through the early weeks, and Tampa Bay summers run hot and humid from May into September. That’s a real scheduling factor, not a footnote. Patients who book surgery for October through March wear their garments through the comfortable half of the year.
