What Florida Rules Mean For Your Surgical Plan
There is a detail almost no clinic page puts in front of patients, and it shapes how a large case gets scheduled.
Florida caps how much fat can come out in an office setting. A maximum of 4,000 cc of supernatant fat may be removed by liposuction in the office setting, and a maximum of 50 mg/kg of lidocaine may be injected for tumescent technique. When liposuction is combined with abdominoplasty or is directly related to another procedure, it may not exceed 1,000 cc. Physicians removing more than 1,000 cc must register the office with the Department of Health, per the Florida Board of Medicine office surgery rules.
That is why a patient who wants a tummy tuck and full torso contouring sometimes hears that the work should be staged across two operations rather than compressed into one. It is not upselling. It is arithmetic set by rule.

Swelling and drainage over the first 48 to 72 hours with early walking encouraged, and the flat loop trails along the Alafia River preserve are useful for exactly that kind of short, unhurried walking. Week one is continuous compression with no return to work. Weeks two through four bring steady improvement, and most patients are back at the gym within one to two weeks, unrestricted between weeks two and four as long as the garment stays on. The 24-hour gyms along Gornto Lake Road and Progress Boulevard make that easier to schedule around work. Definition emerges between 6 and 12 weeks. Final contour lands between 3 and 6 months, with skin pliability and sensation returning between 6 and 12 months.
One scheduling note that Florida patients feel and northern patients do not: compression garments worn continuously through a Tampa Bay August are genuinely uncomfortable.
