Neck Liposuction In North Bon Air, FL
Neck liposuction removes the fat pad under your chin and along your jaw, then tightens the skin over the new shape in the same visit. It is done awake, in our South Tampa office, under local anesthesia with an oral sedative. From North Bon Air it is a short drive east on Kennedy Boulevard, then south on Howard. Dr. Gopal Grandhige plans the case, performs it himself, and follows you for a full year afterward.
What Neck Liposuction Removes And What It Does Not
Neck liposuction treats fat. That is the whole of what it does well, and saying so up front saves a wasted consultation.
Fat under the chin sits in a pocket that does not answer to diet or training. Plenty of North Bon Air patients arrive lean everywhere else and still see a soft line between chin and neck in photographs. Removing it sharpens the jaw border and opens the angle where neck meets chin.
What it does not do is fix loose skin, tighten a slack platysma muscle, or add projection to a chin that sits back. Those are separate problems in separate layers, each with its own answer. A neck treated as though it were only fat comes out hollow instead of sharp.
For scale, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons counted 24,000 submental and chin liposuction procedures in 2024, up about one percent year over year. Read that with its stated limit: it counts only ASPS member surgeons, so the national number runs higher once general surgeons and dermatologists are included.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Dr. Grandhige screens every neck against four layers before he agrees to operate. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once, which is why a single treatment applied to everyone produces such uneven results across a city.
Layer One, Fat
Soft fullness that moves when you press it. This is the layer liposuction addresses, through two or three incisions under the chin and behind the ears that close without stitches you can see.
Layer Two, The Platysma Muscle
Two vertical cords that stand out when you clench your jaw are platysmal bands, and they are muscle, not fat. Suctioning around them makes them more visible, not less. Where bands are present the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, combined with platysmaplasty. Formation names this out loud because removing fat over untreated bands is one of the most common reasons a neck looks worse after surgery than before.
Layer Three, Skin And The Fibroseptal Network
Skin holds its new shape through the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue scaffold sitting between skin and muscle. Renuvion, a helium plasma and radiofrequency device, and FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted contouring device, both reach that scaffold from underneath. Lasers and microneedling work from the surface down and stop short of it. Both Renuvion and FaceTite are 510(k)-cleared, not FDA-approved, which is a real distinction in how a device reached market. Skin in roughly the 25 to 55 range contracts predictably enough for this to work as a finisher.
Layer Four, Chin Projection And Jaw Angle
A chin that sits back reads as a soft neck no matter how much fat comes out. Structural filler placed on bone corrects the frame, using Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid. This is the layer that turns a clean jawline into a superhero jawline, and it is the one most often skipped.
Who Clears For This And Who Gets Sent Elsewhere
Good candidates hold a stable weight for several months, carry fat under the chin that has outlasted their training, and have skin that still springs back when released. Men and women both do well. The best outcomes go to people who want a sharper version of their own jaw, not a different face.
Some people do not clear. Skin that hangs at rest and does not retract needs excision, not tightening, and no device changes that. Heavy submandibular glands or a low-sitting hyoid bone sit deeper than liposuction reaches. In those cases Dr. Grandhige says so and points you to a surgeon who does that work well. Formation stays in contact with those surgeons on purpose. Turning down a case you cannot improve is part of how he practices, and it is worth reading his position on when not to operate before you book anything.
If You Have Already Had Nonsurgical Neck Treatments
Tell us. By device name, and how many rounds.
This matters more than most patients expect. A retrospective review of 180 face and neck lift procedures published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal in April 2026 found that 68 percent of those patients had prior neck treatments, and that the ones who had gone through fat-dissolving injections, cryolipolysis, radiofrequency devices, or thread suspension showed fibrosis, loss of normal tissue planes, stiffened platysma and fascia, and fat distributed unpredictably. Operative time rose in every previously treated case.
Two honest qualifiers belong with that. The authors state their practice receives a disproportionate share of patients unhappy after earlier treatment, so the rate is not the general population’s rate. And the study looked at open neck lifts, which is a bigger operation than what happens in our office.
The finding that changed our process is smaller and harder to argue with. Four percent of those patients did not disclose prior nonsurgical work, and it surfaced only once the surgeon was already operating. So our intake asks about devices by name rather than asking whether you have had anything done. Stacking treatments over years without first diagnosing which layer is at fault is what creates the difficult neck.
The Procedure Itself
Under an hour, awake, in the office. Dr. Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in aesthetic surgery, and he performs the case himself start to finish. An oral sedative and local anesthesia, small incisions under the chin and behind the ears, fat removed with restraint rather than volume, then Renuvion or FaceTite passed under the skin to contract it over the new contour. Over-resection is the failure mode here, so less comes out than most people picture.
There is a regulatory frame worth knowing. Florida caps office liposuction at 4,000 cc of supernatant fat and limits lidocaine dosing, and any office removing more than 1,000 cc has to register with the Department of Health and pass inspection. A neck case sits far below that threshold. You can ask any office in Florida for its registration status, and the Florida Board of Medicine publishes the requirements openly. Cases needing general anesthesia go to a Quad A accredited facility with the same anesthesia provider and staff every time.
Recovery Week By Week
The first few days bring swelling, some bruising, and a tight feeling, managed with a chin garment. At one week most people are back at work and back to training, wearing the garment 12 to 24 hours a day. Between two and four weeks the swelling settles and the fat removal becomes visible. Skin tightening shows at three months. The final result lands somewhere between six and nine months, once contraction finishes.
Dr. Grandhige treats that window as 60 percent surgery and 40 percent managed recovery. Fat cells taken out do not come back, so the shape holds at a stable weight, but how cleanly it settles depends on compression, lymphatic work, and follow-up. He sees patients for a year.
How Health And Diet Get Adjusted Around The Procedure
Before anything is scheduled, your health and diet get assessed. Nutrition, supplements, and peptides are then adjusted in the window immediately before and after the procedure, so your body builds as much structure as it can while it is healing.
This is the part that separates one office from another. The device on the tray is identical everywhere in Tampa. The thinking around it is not.
Getting Here From North Bon Air
North Bon Air sits inside a box formed by Dale Mabry Highway on the east, Kennedy Boulevard on the south, Interstate 275 on the north, and Westshore Palms on the west, across ZIP codes 33607 and 33609. Roughly 1,100 residents live in about 465 households, in a post-war grid of 1950s bungalows that grew after Dale Mabry was paved to link MacDill and Drew airfields. There are no community parks inside those boundaries, so residents walk at Cypress Point Park or Swann Circle Park instead.
Two of those boundaries matter for scheduling. FDOT began full reconstruction of the Westshore Interchange at I-275 and State Road 60 in January 2026, with Superior-Lane Joint Venture building the first phase and work limits running along I-275 from the Howard Frankland Bridge to just east of Lois Avenue, which is North Bon Air’s western edge. East Frontage Road between Cypress and Lemon is closed around the clock into January 2027.
Here is the useful part: none of that touches your route. From North Bon Air you go east on Kennedy and south on Howard, all surface streets, under three miles. The interchange rebuilding on your northern doorstep is irrelevant to your follow-up visits, and follow-up frequency is the thing that actually decides whether recovery goes well. Kennedy does load up between 4 and 6 p.m., so North Bon Air patients get offered morning post-operative slots.
Formation also handles torso work for the same neighborhood, and neck contouring is frequently paired with liposuction in North Bon Air when someone is addressing more than one area. Men make up a large share of the jawline cases, and male body contouring follows a different aesthetic logic than female contouring does.

That is the design constraint. Dr. Grandhige removes less than most patients expect, preserving natural jaw angles rather than pulling tight. Over-resection is what makes a neck look operated on.
The fat cells removed do not return, so the contour holds at a stable weight. Aging continues, and skin quality at the time of surgery sets how well the tightening holds.
Yes, and the schedule is part of the result rather than an add-on. Dr. Grandhige follows patients for a full year, and lymphatic treatment starts at the first post-operative visit.
The Short Version
Neck liposuction fixes one layer well. Whether it fixes your neck depends on which layers are actually involved, and that is a diagnosis, not a menu choice. If the fullness under your chin is fat, your skin retracts, and your weight is steady, this is a short awake procedure with about a week of downtime and a result that settles over six to nine months. If bands, loose skin, or chin position are doing the work instead, you need something else, and you should hear that before you pay for anything.
