Neck Liposuction In Palma Ceia Pines, FL

What Neck Liposuction Does, And Where It Stops

Neck liposuction takes out the fat between your skin and the platysma, the thin sheet of muscle that runs from your collarbone up over the jaw. Fat cells that come out don’t grow back, so the new contour holds as long as your weight stays fairly stable. It suits people at or near their goal weight who still carry soft fullness under the chin despite training and eating well. Formation plans every case of neck liposuction in Tampa the same way, starting with the read below.

It can let mildly loose skin settle a little. It can’t tighten skin that has lost its recoil, and it can’t reach fullness that sits under the muscle. That deeper fullness can come from subplatysmal fat, the digastric muscles or the submandibular glands. Suction above the platysma leaves all three where they are, and clearing the fat on top can make them easier to see. Formation refers those patients to the surgeons it stays in contact with for deeper neck work.

Fast weight loss, including on GLP-1 medications, can bring the reverse problem: less fat, and skin that hasn’t caught up. That’s a layer three question.

What weight loss can’t fix. After losing over 100 pounds, this patient had achieved significant weight loss, but was left with excess skin around his abdomen and back that weight loss alone couldn’t address.During an 8-hour surgery, Dr. Gopal performed a circumferential body lift, a procedure that removes excess skin around the entire midsection to improve body contour. In this video, Dr. Gopal walks through the procedure, explaining how he removed approximately 3 pounds of skin from the back and estimated another 4–5 pounds would be removed from the abdomen. He’s also using a small amount of fat collected during the procedure to add volume to the upper chest, improving its contour without performing a separate chest lift. For patients who have experienced major weight loss, body contouring can help address the excess skin that remains after the weight is gone.Considering surgery after weight loss? Your fat is liquid gold. The fat you don’t want might be exactly what another part of your body needs.During liposuction, the fat we remove doesn’t always have to be discarded. In fact, Dr. Gopal refers to it as “liquid gold.”Why? Because that fat can sometimes be transferred to another area of the body to add volume, enhance natural contours, and create a more balanced shape. For women, that might mean adding volume to the breasts, hips, or buttocks. For men, fat transfer can help enhance the chest or shoulders. And because we’re using your own fat, we can potentially improve two areas during the same surgery.Of course, fat transfer isn’t right for everyone. It’s something Dr. Gopal discusses with patients beforehand and incorporates into the surgical plan when appropriate.Considering liposuction in Tampa? A flatter stomach without a tummy tuck? 👀Pregnancy, and sometimes increased pressure from fat deep inside the abdomen, can cause the abdominal muscles to separate down the middle. This is called diastasis recti, and it can make your belly stick out even if you’re otherwise lean.Traditionally, repairing that separation often meant undergoing a tummy tuck. But what if you don’t have much loose skin to remove? For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can use robotic-assisted surgery to bring those separated muscles back together through three small incisions, without the long scar associated with a traditional tummy tuck. That’s exactly what he did for the patient in these before-and-after photos. No tummy tuck. No additional procedures.**But this approach isn’t for everyone.** If you have significant loose skin or excess fat, a different treatment may be more appropriate. That’s why understanding what’s causing your belly to protrude matters before deciding on surgery.Curious whether you’re a candidate? Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery? After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma. In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair. This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.Considering surgery? The fat is gone. But what takes its place? When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma. And here’s why that matters. If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour. That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.Considering liposuction in Tampa? Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally. For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.Considering a tummy tuck? The Four-Layer Neck Read

Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. So Dr. Grandhige reads four layers in a fixed order before he names a procedure, and each layer has its own answer. You can run a rough version of every check in a bathroom mirror tonight.

Layer One, Fat

Tip your chin down slightly and pinch the soft tissue under your jaw. Then pull the corners of your mouth down hard to tense the platysma, and pinch again. Whatever still lifts between your fingers sits above the muscle, and that’s what liposuction removes. Fullness you can feel but can’t lift sits underneath it. For plenty of necks, fat is the only problem and liposuction is the only answer needed.

Layer Two, Platysma Muscle And Platysmal Bands

Clench your teeth and grimace. Vertical cords running down from the jaw are platysmal bands, and suction doesn’t change them. Taking the fat from around active bands tends to put them on display. A 2026 systematic review of submental liposuction adverse events found platysmal banding was the third most common complication reported, at 18.5% of all events, behind seromas and surface irregularities. The review was built from case reports and case series, so read the ranking as a pattern, not a prediction for your neck.

Where bands are present, the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, with platysmaplasty to bring the muscle edges back together. The suture is nonabsorbable and can be removed later, unlike barbed threads that dissolve on their own schedule. The lift is there the day it’s placed.

Layer Three, Skin And The Fibroseptal Network

Pinch the skin at the side of your neck, hold it for two seconds, and let go. Skin that snaps back will drape over a new contour without help. Skin that drifts back slowly needs tightening in the same visit, or the new line looks slack. Reasonable elasticity usually runs through a skin age of roughly 25 to 55, and skin age often doesn’t match the birth date on your license. The pinch decides.

When skin needs help, Dr. Grandhige adds Renuvion, a helium plasma radiofrequency device, or FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis device. Both are 510(k)-cleared. What separates them from surface treatments is depth of access. They work at the deepest layer of the skin and in the fibroseptal network beneath it, the connective tissue between skin and muscle that holds a contour in place. Lasers and microneedling work from the surface down and can’t reach that foundation. Men comparing options can read more about FaceTite for men.

Skin that’s gone past what tightening can reach needs excision. Formation says so at the consultation and points you to a surgeon who does that work well.

Layer Four, Chin Projection And Jaw Angle

Turn sideways to the mirror and check where your chin sits against your lower lip. A chin that sits back, or a soft jaw angle, makes a neck look full even when there’s little fat to remove, and suction doesn’t move bone. That frame gets built with Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, placed to extend the structure the jawline hangs from. On the right anatomy, this layer is what’s behind a superhero jawline. If suction goes in where the frame was the issue, the area under the jaw hollows out and the weak profile stays. Women whose read lands here can start with non-surgical neck and jawline contouring.

Complication Numbers, Read With Their Limits

Most complications after neck liposuction are minor, but how often they happen depends on who’s counting. A 2026 series of 435 patients treated in the office under local anesthesia reported complications in 3.45%, including marginal mandibular nerve injury in 0.91%. Every one of those nerve-injury patients recovered. That nerve moves the lower lip, so an injury shows as a smile that pulls unevenly. The limits matter: every patient in the series was female, the median age was 37, the technique was ultrasound-assisted, and 435 of 513 eligible patients took part. The pooled review above puts the overall event rate at 12.9% per procedure, about three quarters of it minor. Neither number describes the surgeon in front of you. Ask for their own complication history, then ask whether they do the neck awake or asleep and how they check for bands before operating.

What Happens On Procedure Day

You’re awake the whole time, and you go home the same day. An oral sedative comes first, then local anesthetic under the chin and along the jaw. Dr. Gopal Grandhige works through very small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. His own physician assistant, who assists on every surgery he performs, works alongside him.

He treats the work as sculpture rather than fat removal. Each pass is planned against your jawbone, your muscle position, your fat quality and the way light falls across your lower face. He sharpens the jawline while keeping its natural angles, and he leaves some fat in place on purpose, since over-resection leaves irregular contours and a neck that ages poorly. When layer three calls for it, Renuvion or FaceTite follows in the same visit. You leave in a chin compression garment.

From Palma Ceia Pines To South Howard Avenue

The City of Tampa maps Palma Ceia Pines from Kennedy Boulevard south to Swann Avenue and Henderson Boulevard, between Himes and Armenia Avenues. That’s about 1,250 households around Mitchell Elementary and Congregation Schaarai Zedek. Formation’s office sits east of Armenia, usually 5 to 10 minutes off-peak along Swann Avenue or Kennedy Boulevard. The drive is short, but the sedative rule still holds: someone else drives you home, even for ten minutes.

The short distance pays off over the year after. Dr. Grandhige follows patients for a full year, and nearly all of them stay with it to the end. From Palma Ceia Pines, a follow-up visit fits around a workday instead of taking one. Patients who travel in from out of town recover in nearby hotels; you recover in your own bed. Seromas were the most common event in the pooled review. Formation watches for fluid at follow-up visits and addresses a collection early when one forms, and being a few minutes away makes those checks easy to keep.

Being close is easy to sell. It doesn’t decide whether your neck needs fat out, a muscle repaired, skin tightened or a frame built. The four layers decide that. If your training is a run on the Bayshore Boulevard path, you’ll be back on it at about one week.

The 60/40 Recovery Standard

Your health and diet get assessed before anything is scheduled, and what that assessment finds changes the plan. Nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window right before and right after the procedure, so your body builds as much structure as it can while it heals. Protein intake, inflammation control, compression and lymphatic flow are dialed in with you, not handed over on a printout. Lymphatic treatment runs through providers Dr. Grandhige has vetted on their outcomes.

Formation calls this the 60/40 Recovery Standard. Surgery is 60 percent of your result and post-operative care is the other 40, and poor aftercare can undo a well-performed operation. The same reasoning runs through Formation’s philosophy for every procedure.

Every practice in South Tampa can buy the same cannula and the same radiofrequency handpiece. The thinking around them, before and after they’re used, is where practices part ways.

Recovery Week By Week

First few days. Mild swelling, bruising and tightness, managed with the chin compression garment.

One week. Most patients are back at work, social plans and training. The garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day.

Two to four weeks. Swelling keeps settling, and the fat removal becomes visible.

Three months. Skin tightening shows and the jawline sharpens.

Six to nine months. The final result settles as tightening finishes.

Plan backward from the date that matters. A wedding or a photo-heavy trip needs at least four weeks for the fat removal to show, and three months if tightening is part of the plan.

How To Judge Results Before You Book

Every practice website is marketing, this one included. Dr. Grandhige’s advice is to study before-and-after photos where the before looks like you: someone close to your age and build, with a neck like yours. Formation’s before-and-after gallery is a place to run that comparison. Look for profiles that read as natural, and ask how the result looks when the person talks and turns, not only in a posed photo.

The fear Dr. Grandhige hears most is that the result won’t look natural, often framed as whether coworkers will be able to tell. One patient, a professional in his forties, said his neck had always made him look heavier and older than he felt, and he hated photos. After targeted neck liposuction that kept his natural jaw angles, colleagues told him he looked rested. He said his face finally matched the rest of his body, and he started stepping into pictures again.

How Consultations Work

Start with the complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you come in. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee and works as a full surgical assessment. It covers an anatomical evaluation, a read of all four layers, a direct conversation about limits, and guidance on timing. That fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation. Bring your goals and questions, along with your medical history.

Many patients tell the staff what worries them before they’d say it to a surgeon. The staff passes those concerns along so Dr. Grandhige can answer them without you having to ask.

Dr. Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery, certified through the American Board of Surgery. He attended the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a general surgery residency. He followed it with fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. He has practiced in Tampa for more than 15 years across several thousand surgical cases, and neck and jawline contouring is one of the three areas he’s best known for. He designs every surgical plan himself and limits his volume so he stays involved through recovery. He’ll also tell you no, and some patients leave with a plan that starts somewhere other than surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The office at 1315 South Howard Avenue sits east of the neighborhood, usually 5 to 10 minutes off-peak by Swann Avenue or Kennedy Boulevard. You'll still need someone to drive you home because of the oral sedative.

No. It's done awake in the office with an oral sedative and local anesthetic, and you go home the same day.

Most patients return to work and training at about one week. The chin compression garment stays on 12 to 24 hours a day through that first week.

Only a little. It can let mildly loose skin settle, but it can't tighten skin that has lost its recoil. When skin needs help, Renuvion or FaceTite is added in the same visit, and skin past what tightening can reach needs excision, which Formation refers out.

No. Those are platysmal bands, and removing the fat around them can make them stand out more. Where bands are present, the answer is MyEllevate with platysmaplasty.

A 2026 pooled review found seromas, surface irregularities and platysmal banding were the most often reported events, and most were minor. Temporary lower-lip weakness from marginal mandibular nerve injury is uncommon, and every affected patient recovered in a 2026 series of 435 patients.

Removed fat cells don't come back, so the contour holds as long as your weight stays fairly stable. Your neck keeps aging, but removing the excess fat can slow how quickly laxity shows up later.

Yes. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, is a full surgical assessment, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation. The virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna is complimentary and a good first step if you want a plan before you come in.

Your Next Step From Palma Ceia Pines

Fat, muscle, skin and frame each need a different answer, and treating the wrong layer is how a neck ends up looking worse than before. That’s also why a neighbor’s result is no guide to yours. The trip to South Howard Avenue takes a few minutes. The consultation is where you learn which layer is driving what you see in the mirror, and whether that means a procedure now or a different plan first.
