Neck Liposuction In Palma Ceia, FL

Neck liposuction removes the fat under your chin and along your jaw, so the line between your face and neck shows again in profile, in photos and on video calls. At Formation, Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs it in the South Howard Avenue office while you’re awake, with an oral sedative and local anesthesia. There’s no general anesthesia and no hospital stay. Most patients are back at work in about a week, and the office sits about two miles from the Palma Ceia design district.

What Neck Liposuction Removes, And What It Leaves Alone

Neck liposuction removes the fat between your skin and the platysma, the thin sheet of muscle across the front of your neck. It doesn’t shrink skin that has stopped springing back. It doesn’t change the muscle, and it can’t reach the fat underneath it.

Those limits decide who gets a good result. Fullness under the chin can come from surface fat, deeper fat, loose skin, muscle bands or a chin that sits back. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. Read the mix wrong and one of two things happens: the real cause stays put, or fat comes out from under skin that can’t contract over the space. Neither improves with time.

So the plan follows your anatomy, not the procedure name. Some necks need liposuction alone, some need liposuction plus tightening in the same visit, and some need a different operation. A good consultation tells you which one up front. For a general overview, see neck and chin liposuction in Tampa.

The Four-Layer Neck Read

Dr. Grandhige reads every neck through the same four layers, in the same order, before he recommends anything. Each layer has its own solution.

Layer One: Fat Above The Muscle, And Fat Below It

Fat collects in two places under the chin. The pocket above the platysma is the one liposuction removes. Where that fat is the main problem and the skin over it still recoils, liposuction alone can finish the job.

The second pocket sits beneath the muscle, where a cannula passed under the skin can’t go. Fullness that sits under the muscle can come from that deeper fat, or from the digastric muscles and submandibular glands nearby. Taking extra surface fat to compensate tends to leave a hollowed, uneven neck. When the deeper structures drive the shape, liposuction isn’t the answer, and Formation points you to a surgeon who does that work well.

Layer Two: The Platysma Muscle And Platysmal Bands

Tense your neck in a mirror. Vertical cords that stand out are platysmal bands, and fat removal doesn’t change them. Where bands are present, the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, placed with platysmaplasty to draw the muscle edges back toward the midline. Barbed threads dissolve, but this suture is nonabsorbable and can be removed.

Layer Three: Skin And The Fibroseptal Network

Energy-based tightening works at this layer, and it gets two checks: how fast skin returns after a gentle pinch, and the condition of the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue foundation between skin and muscle. FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted contouring device, and Renuvion, a helium plasma device that delivers radiofrequency energy, both treat the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network beneath it. Lasers and microneedling work from the top down and can’t reach that foundation. Skin that hangs at rest is past what any device can do, and those patients are referred to surgeons who remove skin.

Layer Four: Chin Projection And Jaw Angle

This layer is the frame. A chin that sits back or a soft jaw angle limits how sharp the finished line can get, however clean the fat removal. Where projection is the limit, structural filler builds the frame: Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid. The jawline fillers in Palma Ceia page covers that route. A superhero jawline only holds when the frame underneath can carry it.

Who Is Operating

Dr. Gopal Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. His path into aesthetics explains how he plans a neck.

After earning his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School, he began Yale’s six-year combined plastic surgery residency, then completed a full general surgery residency. Fellowships followed in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery, fields where tissue healing and inflammation decide how a patient does. Over more than 15 years he has performed several thousand procedures across complex general surgery and aesthetic contouring. His certification can be checked with the American Board of Surgery.

He evaluates every patient and builds every plan himself. He caps his surgical volume so he stays involved from consultation through recovery, and his own physician assistant assists on his cases. More of his background is on Dr. Grandhige’s profile.

Who This Fits, And When Formation Says Wait

Good candidates are bothered by a double chin or a soft jawline, keep a steady weight, and want a sharper line that still looks like them, without fillers or a bigger operation. Skin elasticity counts most. The working window is roughly skin ages 25 to 55, and skin age is what the exam shows, not your birth year. Two people born the same year can land on opposite sides of that line.

Formation tells you to wait when your weight is still moving, including partway through a weight-loss medication course. The neck you’d treat mid-course isn’t the neck you’ll have once the weight settles. Waiting is also the answer when bands or deeper structures are the real complaint, when skin hangs at rest, or when an event is too close for the recovery timeline below. Sometimes the right first step is your health, with surgery later.

One patient shows the fit. He was a professional in his 40s, fit everywhere except under the jaw, and the area had never changed with weight loss. He’d looked that way his whole life and hated how he looked in pictures. Dr. Grandhige planned targeted neck liposuction with precise jawline contouring that kept his natural angles and skipped aggressive skin tightening. Colleagues told him he looked rested. He said his face finally matched his body, and he smiled more and started getting into pictures again.

Procedure Day In The South Howard Avenue Office

You stay awake through a shorter procedure. An oral sedative comes first, then local anesthesia. Dr. Grandhige works through very small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. He takes fat to sharpen the jawline but leaves a deliberate layer in place, which keeps the contour smooth and the natural angles intact. Where the four-layer read found laxity, Renuvion or FaceTite tightens the skin over the new contour during the same visit.

Cases that need general anesthesia go to Quad A accredited facilities, where the same anesthesia provider and core team work every case.

Florida sorts surgery done in a doctor’s office into levels, and the level is a fair question to put to any practice. Under Florida’s office surgery rule, liposuction under local anesthesia can fall in Level I, deeper sedation moves a case to Level II, and general anesthesia places it in Level III. An office must register with the state before it performs liposuction that removes more than 1,000 cc of fat, or any Level II or Level III surgery, and the rule caps office liposuction at 4,000 cc. Ask where your procedure will happen and which level it falls under. A clear answer tells you a lot about how a practice runs.

Preparation Starts Before A Date Is Set

Your health is assessed before a date goes on the calendar, starting with diet, protein intake and inflammation. Nutrition, supplements and peptides are then adjusted in the window right before and right after the procedure. That gives your body what it needs to build new structure while it heals.

Recovery support is chosen with the same care. Dr. Grandhige has worked with many lymphatic, nutrition and coaching providers, and he refers patients only to the ones whose track records he has seen and vetted himself. The reasoning behind that model is in Formation’s philosophy.

Any practice in Florida can buy the same cannula and the same radiofrequency handpiece. The instrument is identical everywhere. The thinking around it is not.

Recovery, Week By Week

Dr. Grandhige works to the 60/40 Recovery Standard. The procedure is 60 percent of your result, and aftercare is the other 40 percent, so recovery is scheduled and followed instead of left to chance.

First few days: mild swelling, bruising and tightness, with a chin compression garment on.

One week: most patients are back to work, social plans and training, with the garment on 12 to 24 hours a day. From Palma Ceia, that can mean Bayshore Boulevard again, a half-mile walk from the design district.

Two to four weeks: swelling keeps settling, and the fat removal becomes clear.

Three months: skin tightening shows as a visible improvement along the jawline.

Six to nine months: the final result, once tightening has finished.

The fat cells removed don’t return, so the result holds as long as your weight does. Aging continues, but clearing excess fat here can slow how soon new laxity appears. Dr. Grandhige follows patients for a full year, and nearly all of them see the year through.

What weight loss can’t fix. After losing over 100 pounds, this patient had achieved significant weight loss, but was left with excess skin around his abdomen and back that weight loss alone couldn’t address.During an 8-hour surgery, Dr. Gopal performed a circumferential body lift, a procedure that removes excess skin around the entire midsection to improve body contour. In this video, Dr. Gopal walks through the procedure, explaining how he removed approximately 3 pounds of skin from the back and estimated another 4–5 pounds would be removed from the abdomen. He’s also using a small amount of fat collected during the procedure to add volume to the upper chest, improving its contour without performing a separate chest lift. For patients who have experienced major weight loss, body contouring can help address the excess skin that remains after the weight is gone.Considering surgery after weight loss? Your fat is liquid gold. The fat you don’t want might be exactly what another part of your body needs.During liposuction, the fat we remove doesn’t always have to be discarded. In fact, Dr. Gopal refers to it as “liquid gold.”Why? Because that fat can sometimes be transferred to another area of the body to add volume, enhance natural contours, and create a more balanced shape. For women, that might mean adding volume to the breasts, hips, or buttocks. For men, fat transfer can help enhance the chest or shoulders. And because we’re using your own fat, we can potentially improve two areas during the same surgery.Of course, fat transfer isn’t right for everyone. It’s something Dr. Gopal discusses with patients beforehand and incorporates into the surgical plan when appropriate.Considering liposuction in Tampa? A flatter stomach without a tummy tuck? 👀Pregnancy, and sometimes increased pressure from fat deep inside the abdomen, can cause the abdominal muscles to separate down the middle. This is called diastasis recti, and it can make your belly stick out even if you’re otherwise lean.Traditionally, repairing that separation often meant undergoing a tummy tuck. But what if you don’t have much loose skin to remove? For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can use robotic-assisted surgery to bring those separated muscles back together through three small incisions, without the long scar associated with a traditional tummy tuck. That’s exactly what he did for the patient in these before-and-after photos. No tummy tuck. No additional procedures.**But this approach isn’t for everyone.** If you have significant loose skin or excess fat, a different treatment may be more appropriate. That’s why understanding what’s causing your belly to protrude matters before deciding on surgery.Curious whether you’re a candidate? Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery? After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma. In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair. This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.Considering surgery? The fat is gone. But what takes its place? When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma. And here’s why that matters. If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour. That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.Considering liposuction in Tampa? Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally. For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.Considering a tummy tuck? Six hours. Hundreds of decisions.High-definition liposuction is as much about precision as it is about technique.Dr. Gopal can spend 6–7 hours on a single HD liposuction procedure, carefully evaluating the body’s anatomy, refining muscle definition, and making sure each contour transitions naturally into the next. And that level of attention doesn’t change as the hours go by.Because the final result is shaped by hundreds of small decisions made throughout the procedure.Considering HD liposuction in Tampa? Risks, Published Numbers, And Where It Goes Wrong

A 2026 series in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery gives a useful benchmark for this setting. It reviewed 435 patients who had office-based neck liposuction under local anesthesia. Complications occurred in 3.45 percent of them. Four patients, or 0.91 percent, had an injury to the marginal mandibular nerve, the branch that moves the lower lip, and all four recovered. Fibrosis or asymmetry showed up in three cases. About two-thirds reported mild pain during the procedure, and about 6 percent reported severe pain.

The limits matter as much as the numbers. The study looked back at existing records, every patient was female, 78 of the 513 patients treated didn’t take part, and the surgeons used an ultrasound-assisted technique. Treat the figures as a reference point for awake, office-based neck liposuction, not a forecast for your neck.

The fear patients bring in most often is looking overdone, and that usually comes from taking too much. Over-resection under the chin leaves a scooped look, exposes irregularities the fat used to hide, and ages poorly. On lax skin, stripping the fat underneath can make a neck look older. Restraint is part of the technique. In men, the jaw and neck have to be read as one unit to keep a masculine profile, which is the basis of Dr. Grandhige’s male neck liposuction work.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fat cells removed don't come back, so the result holds as long as your weight stays steady. Your skin keeps aging, but clearing excess fat from the neck can slow how soon new laxity appears.

Yes. Dr. Grandhige performs neck liposuction in the office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, and no general anesthesia is used. Cases that do need general anesthesia take place in Quad A accredited facilities with the same anesthesia provider and team.

Most patients return to work, social plans and training at about one week. The chin compression garment is still worn 12 to 24 hours a day at that point.

Not by itself. It works best with reasonable elasticity, roughly skin ages 25 to 55 as judged on exam. Skin that still recoils can be tightened with Renuvion or FaceTite in the same visit. Skin that hangs at rest needs removal, and Formation refers those patients to surgeons who do that work well.

No. Liposuction reaches the fat above the platysma muscle. Fat beneath the muscle, and fullness from the digastric muscles or submandibular glands, needs a different procedure, and Formation refers patients with that anatomy to the right surgeon.

No. Platysmal bands are muscle, and fat removal doesn't change them. Where bands are present, MyEllevate with platysmaplasty treats that layer.

Yes, while your weight is still moving. The neck you'd treat partway through a medication course isn't the neck you'll have once your weight settles, so Formation recommends waiting until it's stable.

No. The office is about two miles from the corner of MacDill Avenue and Bay to Bay Boulevard, so you can recover at home and make a short trip in for follow-up visits. Hotel stays near the office are mainly for patients who travel in from farther away.

Booking Your Consultation From Palma Ceia

An accurate read of all four layers is where a sharper jawline starts, and it happens in person.

The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige is by appointment and carries a fee, which applies toward any procedure or product at the practice. That fee keeps the visit a full surgical assessment. You’ll leave knowing whether your neck is mainly surface fat, deeper structures, loose skin or a mix, and which plan fits. If liposuction is the wrong tool, he’ll say so. If the timing is wrong, he’ll tell you to wait.

For a first read before the two-mile drive, Formation offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan. If tightening or contouring without liposuction looks like the better fit, the neck and jawline contouring in Palma Ceia page walks through those options.
