Neck Liposuction In Parkland Estates, FL
Neck liposuction removes the fat under your chin and along your jawline, so the edge of your face shows again. At Formation, Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs it in the office while you’re awake, with an oral sedative and local anesthesia. Most patients are back at work in about a week. Parkland Estates ends at Howard Avenue on its east side, and the office is at 1315 South Howard Avenue, a short trip down the same street.
What Neck Liposuction Does, And Where It Stops
Neck liposuction takes out fat. It doesn’t tighten skin that has lost its spring, and it doesn’t change the muscle that sits under the fat.
That limit matters because a full neck rarely has one cause. Fat, loose skin, muscle bands and a chin that sits back can all produce the same soft profile, and most necks carry two or three of them at once. Take fat out from under skin that can’t contract, and the skin has nothing to settle onto. Leave the bands untreated, and no amount of fat removal will flatten them.
So the plan follows the anatomy, not the procedure name. Some necks need liposuction alone. Some need liposuction and skin tightening in the same visit. Some need a different procedure entirely, and a good consultation says so. For the general overview, see neck and chin liposuction in Tampa.
Who Is Operating
Dr. Gopal Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. He isn’t a plastic surgeon, and the path he took explains how he plans a neck.
He earned his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School and matched into Yale’s six-year combined plastic surgery residency. He then moved to a full general surgery residency, followed by fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. In each of those fields, healing and inflammation decide the outcome.
He has operated for more than 15 years and performed several thousand procedures. Neck and jawline contouring is one of the five procedures he performs most often. You can confirm his certification with the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Grandhige evaluates every patient and designs every plan himself. He limits his surgical volume so he can stay involved before, during and after the procedure, and his own physician assistant assists on his cases.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Before recommending anything, Dr. Grandhige checks every neck in the same four-part order. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once, which is why one tool rarely answers the whole complaint. Each layer has its own solution.
Layer One: Fat
This is the layer liposuction treats. He gauges how much fat sits under the chin and along the jaw, then checks whether the skin over it springs back when released. Where fat is the main problem and the skin recoils well, liposuction can finish the job alone.
Layer Two: The Platysma Muscle And Platysmal Bands
Tense your neck in a mirror. Vertical cords that stand out are platysmal bands. They’re muscle, and liposuction doesn’t touch them.
Where bands are present, the answer is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, placed with platysmaplasty to draw the muscle edges back toward the midline. Unlike barbed threads that dissolve, the suture is nonabsorbable and can be removed, and the lift is there the day it’s placed. This layer is read before any fat comes out, so bands are part of the plan from the start.
Layer Three: Skin And The Fibroseptal Network
This layer gets two checks. The first is how fast your skin returns after a gentle pinch. The second is the condition of the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue foundation between skin and muscle.
Energy-based tightening works here. FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted contouring device, and Renuvion, a helium plasma device that delivers radiofrequency energy, both treat the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network beneath it. Lasers and microneedling work from the top down and can’t reach that foundation. Our FaceTite in Tampa page covers tightening in more detail.
Skin that hangs at rest is past what any device can tighten, and that neck needs skin removed. Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do that work well and points those patients to the right one.
Layer Four: Chin Projection And Jaw Angle
This layer is the frame. A chin that sits back or a soft jaw angle limits how sharp the finished line can get, however clean the fat removal is. Where projection is the limit, structural filler builds it: Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid. A superhero jawline needs a frame underneath that can hold it.
Who This Fits, And When Formation Says Wait
Good candidates are bothered by a double chin or a soft jawline and keep a steady weight. Their skin still has reasonable elasticity, typically at skin ages 25 to 55. Most want a sharper, natural line without fillers or a larger operation.
Formation tells you to wait when your weight is still changing, because liposuction shapes the area and doesn’t replace weight loss. Waiting is also the answer when bands or hanging skin are the real complaint, or when an event falls inside the recovery timeline below. Sometimes the right first step is your health, with surgery later. Dr. Grandhige will say no when surgery isn’t the right answer.
One patient shows what a good fit looks like. He was a professional in his 40s and otherwise fit, but his neck and jaw had always looked heavier than the rest of him and never changed with weight loss. He hated how he looked in photos. His plan was targeted neck liposuction with precise jawline contouring that kept his natural angles and skipped aggressive skin tightening.
Afterward his profile was sharper and still his own. Colleagues said he looked rested, he felt his face finally matched his body, and he started getting into pictures again. More outcomes are in the before-and-after gallery.
Procedure Day
You’re awake, you’re in the office, and it’s a shorter procedure. An oral sedative comes first, then local anesthesia. Dr. Grandhige works through very small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. He removes fat to sharpen the jawline and keeps its natural angles. He avoids over-aggressive removal, because that is what causes irregularities and early aging.
Where the Four-Layer Neck Read found laxity, Renuvion or FaceTite tightens the skin over the underlying muscle and bone in the same visit. Cases that need general anesthesia move to Quad A accredited facilities, where he works with the same anesthesia provider and the same staff on every case.
Your preoperative instructions cover recovery logistics and support planning, along with nutrition, protein and compression.
Florida’s Office Surgery Rules, In Plain Terms
Florida sorts surgery done in a physician’s office into three levels. Knowing them explains why an awake neck procedure can happen in an office at all, and what to ask about your own plan.
Under the Florida Board of Medicine’s office surgery levels, Level I covers liposuction that removes less than 1,000 cc of supernatant fat. It uses local or topical anesthesia with nothing beyond minimal preoperative tranquilization. Supernatant fat is the fat layer that floats to the top once the suctioned fluid settles, and the rules count that layer, not the full volume suctioned.
Level II allows up to 4,000 cc with deeper sedation, and Level III is surgery that requires general anesthesia. Any office that removes more than 1,000 cc of supernatant fat must register with the state, and 4,000 cc is the most any office procedure may remove.
Those rules give you three things to ask at any consultation: which level your plan falls under, who manages your sedation, and where your case goes if it needs more than the office allows. A practice that answers all three plainly is showing you how it runs.
Preparation Starts Before A Date Is Set
Your health gets assessed before a date goes on the calendar. Diet, protein intake and inflammation come first. Then nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window just before and just after the procedure, so your body builds as much new structure as it can while it heals.
Dr. Grandhige also chose the people you’ll see during recovery. He has worked with many lymphatic, nutrition and coaching providers and kept only those with proven track records. That model comes from Formation’s philosophy that surgery should be one part of a larger process, not an isolated event.
Any practice in Tampa can buy the same cannula and the same radiofrequency handpiece. The instrument is identical at every practice. The thinking around it is not.
Recovery, Week By Week
Dr. Grandhige works to the 60/40 Recovery Standard. The procedure is 60 percent of your result, and the aftercare is the other 40 percent. Poor aftercare can undo a well-performed surgery, so recovery here is scheduled and followed closely.
- First few days: mild swelling, bruising and tightness, with a chin compression garment on.
- One week: back to work, social plans and training, with the garment on 12 to 24 hours a day.
- Two to four weeks: swelling keeps settling, and the fat removal is clear to see.
- Three months: skin tightening shows as a visibly sharper jawline.
- Six to nine months: the final result, once tightening has finished.
The fat cells removed don’t come back, so the result holds as long as your weight does. Aging continues, but clearing excess fat here can slow how soon new laxity appears. Dr. Grandhige follows patients for a full year, and nearly all of them see it through.
Planning From Parkland Estates
Parkland Estates runs from Swann Avenue south to Morrison Avenue, and from Lincoln Avenue east to Howard Avenue. Its eastern edge is the same street as the office, and that changes three parts of the plan.
Recovering At Home, Not In A Hotel
Patients who travel from farther away often recover in nearby hotels where Formation has relationships, and Dr. Grandhige visits them in their rooms during the first days. From Parkland Estates, home is close enough that the hotel becomes optional. Follow-up visits are a short drive, which makes a full year of follow-up easy to keep.
The Chin Garment In A Walkable Neighborhood
The fear patients raise most often is that people will be able to tell. Parkland Estates is a short walk from Hyde Park Village, and the first week is when you’re most visible, with the chin garment on most of the day. If you’d rather not be seen in it, keep that week light on errands and neighborhood walks. After that, the change tends to read as rested rather than as surgery.
Many patients mention this worry to the staff instead of to Dr. Grandhige. The staff passes it along, so he can address it before you have to ask.
Timing Around Gasparilla
The Parade of Pirates runs on the last Saturday in January. It starts at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard and heads north along Bayshore. Howard Avenue ends at Bayshore, so parade day happens close to home. The Children’s Parade runs on Bayshore one week earlier.
For visible fat removal in parade photos, count back two to four weeks, which puts the procedure between late December and early January. For the finished result, count back six to nine months, which puts it between late April and late July of the year before. If the Children’s Parade is the date that matters, move each window one week earlier.
Parade weekend brings road closures and parking bans around Bayshore and Hyde Park, so schedule the procedure for a different week.
Where Neck Liposuction Goes Wrong
Taking too much is the mistake to avoid. Over-thinning under the chin leaves a scooped look, exposes irregularities the fat used to hide, and ages poorly. Where the skin is already lax, stripping out the fat beneath it can make the neck look older, not younger.
Dr. Grandhige’s rule is to do only what is necessary and do it well. In men, the jaw and neck have to be read together to keep a masculine profile, since small errors can soften the line. That combined read is central to his male neck liposuction work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Formation performs neck liposuction in the office with an oral sedative and local anesthesia, with no general anesthesia. Cases that do need general anesthesia take place in Quad A accredited facilities with the same anesthesia provider and staff.
Most patients return to work, social plans and training at about one week. The chin compression garment is still worn 12 to 24 hours a day at that point.
The fat cells removed don’t return, so the result holds as long as your weight stays steady. Your skin keeps aging, but clearing excess fat from the neck can slow how soon new laxity appears.
Not by itself. Skin that still recoils, typically at skin ages 25 to 55, can be tightened with Renuvion or FaceTite in the same visit. Skin that hangs at rest needs to be removed, and Formation points those patients to surgeons who do that work well.
No. Platysmal bands are muscle, and liposuction doesn’t touch them. Where bands are present, MyEllevate with platysmaplasty treats that layer.
The goal is a sharper profile that still looks like you. People often comment that you look more rested or fit without realizing anything was done.
For visible fat removal by the Parade of Pirates on the last Saturday in January, schedule between late December and early January. For the finished result, schedule between late April and late July of the year before. Avoid parade weekend, when roads around Bayshore and Hyde Park close.
Usually not. Hotel stays near the office mainly help patients traveling from farther away. Parkland Estates ends at Howard Avenue, the same street as the office, so recovering at home is simple and follow-up visits are a short drive.
Your Next Step From Parkland Estates
A sharper jawline starts with an accurate read of all four layers, and that read happens in person, a short drive down Howard Avenue.
The consultation with Dr. Grandhige is by appointment and carries a fee, which applies toward any procedure or product at the practice. The fee keeps the visit a full surgical assessment rather than a sales meeting. He examines your anatomy and tells you whether your neck is mainly fat, mainly laxity or a mix, then gives you a plan that fits. If liposuction is the wrong tool, he says so. If the timing is wrong, he tells you to wait.
If you’d like answers before you come in, Formation also offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who reviews your goals and outlines a plan. For tightening and contouring options beyond liposuction, see neck and jawline contouring in Parkland Estates.

What weight loss can’t fix.
After losing over 100 pounds, this patient had achieved significant weight loss, but was left with excess skin around his abdomen and back that weight loss alone couldn’t address.
During an 8-hour surgery, Dr. Gopal performed a circumferential body lift, a procedure that removes excess skin around the entire midsection to improve body contour.
In this video, Dr. Gopal walks through the procedure, explaining how he removed approximately 3 pounds of skin from the back and estimated another 4–5 pounds would be removed from the abdomen.
He’s also using a small amount of fat collected during the procedure to add volume to the upper chest, improving its contour without performing a separate chest lift.
For patients who have experienced major weight loss, body contouring can help address the excess skin that remains after the weight is gone.

Only 3 months after surgery. And still healing.
This patient had previously undergone a tummy tuck but wanted to improve his abdominal contour, create more definition, and address the appearance of his existing scar.
Dr. Gopal combined several body contouring techniques, including HD liposuction, skin tightening with Renuvion, fat transfer to the chest, and revision of the previous tummy tuck scar.
The result so far? A more defined abdomen, improved body contours, and a revised scar that’s still in the early stages of healing.
At just three months after surgery, these aren’t the final results. Swelling can continue to decrease, and scars typically soften and fade as healing progresses.

Your fat is liquid gold.
The fat you don’t want might be exactly what another part of your body needs.
During liposuction, the fat we remove doesn’t always have to be discarded. In fact, Dr. Gopal refers to it as “liquid gold.”
Why? Because that fat can sometimes be transferred to another area of the body to add volume, enhance natural contours, and create a more balanced shape.
For women, that might mean adding volume to the breasts, hips, or buttocks. For men, fat transfer can help enhance the chest or shoulders.
And because we’re using your own fat, we can potentially improve two areas during the same surgery.
Of course, fat transfer isn’t right for everyone. It’s something Dr. Gopal discusses with patients beforehand and incorporates into the surgical plan when appropriate.

Cosmetic surgery isn’t just cosmetic.
We often measure the success of plastic surgery by what we can see in before-and-after photos. But some of the most meaningful changes happen in ways a photograph can’t capture.
How someone feels about themselves. The confidence they carry into everyday life. The freedom of no longer feeling uncomfortable in their own skin.
For Dr. Gopal, that’s what makes this work so meaningful.
A patient who underwent body contouring in 2025 recently reached out to share how much the experience continues to mean to her.
She didn’t talk about measurements or how her body looked. She talked about how much better her days had become.
And that’s something Dr. Gopal has always believed: Cosmetic surgery isn’t simply about changing how someone looks. It’s about understanding what that change means to the person choosing it.

A flatter stomach without a tummy tuck? 👀
Pregnancy, and sometimes increased pressure from fat deep inside the abdomen, can cause the abdominal muscles to separate down the middle. This is called diastasis recti, and it can make your belly stick out even if you’re otherwise lean.
Traditionally, repairing that separation often meant undergoing a tummy tuck. But what if you don’t have much loose skin to remove?
For the right patient, Dr. Gopal can use robotic-assisted surgery to bring those separated muscles back together through three small incisions, without the long scar associated with a traditional tummy tuck.
That’s exactly what he did for the patient in these before-and-after photos. No tummy tuck. No additional procedures.
**But this approach isn’t for everyone.** If you have significant loose skin or excess fat, a different treatment may be more appropriate. That’s why understanding what’s causing your belly to protrude matters before deciding on surgery.

Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery?
After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma.
In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair.
This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.

The fat is gone. But what takes its place?
When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma.
And here’s why that matters.
If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour.
That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.

Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.
One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.
Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.
Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.
By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally.
For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.
Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.
