Neck And Jawline Contouring In Palma Ceia West, FL
Neck and jawline contouring removes the stubborn fat under your chin and along your jaw. It then tightens the skin over the muscle and bone beneath, so your profile has a clean edge again. At Formation, Dr. Gopal Grandhige performs it in the office while you’re awake, through small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. Patients typically return to work and training at one week.
What Neck and Jawline Contouring Changes
It brings back the line where your jaw ends and your neck begins. Fat in this area is heavily shaped by genetics and aging, so it can stay put even when you’re otherwise lean and fit. Contouring takes it out directly. Then it tightens the skin so it follows the jaw instead of hiding it.
The patient it suits is bothered by a double chin or a soft jawline and wants a natural, sharp result rather than an over-tightened one. The skin still has to recoil for contouring to work. In practice that means a skin age of roughly 25 to 55. That’s skin age, not the number on your license.
This page covers how the decision gets made for your neck, plus the drive and the months after from Palma Ceia West. For the full treatment menu, see Formation’s main page on neck and jawline contouring in Tampa.
One of Dr. Grandhige’s patients, a professional in his 40s, had always carried fullness under his chin. Weight loss never touched it, and he hated how he looked in pictures. After targeted neck liposuction that kept his natural jaw angles, colleagues told him he looked more rested. He said his face and neck finally matched the rest of his body, and he started stepping into photos again. You can see more results in the neck and jawline gallery.
The Four-Layer Neck Read
Dr. Grandhige reads every neck in four layers before he recommends anything, because each layer has its own fix. Most necks show aging in more than one layer at once. Treating one layer when the problem lives in another is how a well-performed procedure ends in a disappointing result.
Layer One: Fat
Fat sitting between the skin and the platysma muscle is the layer liposuction removes. The fat cells taken out don’t return, though weight gain can still enlarge the ones left behind.
LLayer Two: The Platysma and Platysmal Bands
The platysma is the thin sheet of muscle across the front of your neck. When its edges separate, they show as vertical cords called platysmal bands, and fat removal doesn’t flatten them. Where bands are present, the fix is MyEllevate, a permanent suspension suture, combined with platysmaplasty to tighten the muscle. MyEllevate is nonabsorbable and can be removed, while barbed threads dissolve. Its lift is there the day it’s placed.
Layer Three: Skin and the Fibroseptal Network
Beneath the skin sits the fibroseptal network, the connective tissue that ties skin to the muscle below. When it loosens, skin drapes instead of following the jaw. Renuvion, a helium plasma and radiofrequency energy device, treats the deepest layer of the skin and the fibroseptal network beneath it. Lasers and microneedling work from the top down and can’t reach that foundation.
Renuvion is 510(k)-cleared by the FDA, not FDA-approved, for improving loose skin of the neck and under the chin. The results of the clinical trial behind that 2022 clearance are published. Dr. Grandhige also uses FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted tightening device, for this layer. Collagen keeps building for months afterward, which is why tightening shows later than fat removal does.
Layer Four: Chin Projection and Jaw Angle
Some necks look soft because the frame underneath is small. A chin that sits back or a shallow jaw angle gives the skin nothing to drape over, and taking fat away can’t build structure. This layer calls for structural filler. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite, or Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid, adds projection at the chin and definition at the angle of the jaw. It’s the layer behind the superhero jawline look.
Why does fluid sometimes collect after surgery?
After certain surgical procedures, fluid can accumulate beneath the skin, forming what’s called a seroma.
In this video, Dr. Gopal demonstrates how he drains a seroma in a patient recovering from diastasis recti repair.
This is one of the reasons postoperative follow-up matters. It allows Dr. Gopal to monitor healing, identify any issues, and address them when necessary.

The fat is gone. But what takes its place?
When fat is removed during liposuction, it leaves behind space beneath the skin. As the body heals, fluid can sometimes collect in that space, creating what’s called a seroma.
And here’s why that matters.
If fluid continues to collect, it can potentially affect the final contour.
That’s why Dr. Gopal pays close attention to fluid buildup during recovery. His approach is to identify seromas early and address them quickly.

Not every patient who wants surgery is ready for it.
One patient came to Dr. Gopal wanting a tummy tuck. Over the next 18 months, she returned multiple times, having lost more weight each time. And each time, the answer was still no.
Not because she couldn’t have the surgery, but because she wasn’t where she wanted to be yet.
Instead of rushing into surgery, the focus was on helping her reach a healthier, more sustainable weight through nutritional counseling, lifestyle support, and medical weight management.
By the time she had lost 80 pounds, she was ready, both physically and mentally.
For Dr. Gopal, being a good surgeon isn’t just about knowing how to perform a procedure. It’s also about knowing when not to perform one.
Sometimes the best result starts long before the operating room.

Six hours. Hundreds of decisions.
High-definition liposuction is as much about precision as it is about technique.
Dr. Gopal can spend 6–7 hours on a single HD liposuction procedure, carefully evaluating the body’s anatomy, refining muscle definition, and making sure each contour transitions naturally into the next.
And that level of attention doesn’t change as the hours go by.
Because the final result is shaped by hundreds of small decisions made throughout the procedure.

This is not your typical liposuction. 👀
Most people think liposuction is simply about removing unwanted fat. But high-definition liposuction takes a different approach.
Before surgery, Dr. Gopal carefully maps out the patient’s natural anatomy, marking the chest, abdomen, and waist to guide where fat will be removed and where it should be preserved.
Why does that matter?
Because removing fat evenly isn’t necessarily going to create definition. HD liposuction uses strategic fat removal to highlight the underlying muscle structure and create a more sculpted, athletic appearance.
And those lines? They’re part of the planning that makes this level of precision possible.
The photos show an actual patient immediately after surgery. Swelling is still present, and the final results will develop as healing progresses.

Does fat move after lipo?
It’s a common concern, especially when someone notices weight gain in an area that wasn’t treated.
Here’s what actually happens.
The fat cells removed during liposuction are gone permanently. But if someone gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still grow, including in areas that weren’t treated.
The fat didn’t move. The body gained weight.
That’s why Dr. Gopal emphasizes being at a weight patients can realistically maintain before surgery. Not the lowest weight they can reach, but one they can sustain long after recovery.

Want a more sculpted body?
High-definition liposuction takes body contouring a step further. Instead of simply removing excess fat, it focuses on sculpting around the body’s natural muscle structure to create more visible definition and a more athletic contour.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in HD liposuction, customizing each procedure based on the patient’s anatomy, body shape, and desired level of definition.
Because the goal isn’t to give everyone the same body. It’s to create a result that works with their natural anatomy.

Don’t plan lipo 2 months before vacation.
If the goal is to enjoy a more sculpted, defined body next summer, the planning needs to start months before that.
Fall is one of our busiest seasons at Formation, and there’s a reason for it. Many patients are already thinking about how they want to look and feel next summer.
But getting there takes time.
At Formation, Dr. Gopal requires at least four weeks of preparation before surgery. That time is spent preparing patients physically and mentally for the procedure and recovery.
After surgery, swelling needs to go down, the skin needs to contract, and the tissues need time to settle into their new contour.
It can take 6–9 months for results to look and feel natural.
That’s why Dr. Gopal recommends planning liposuction 6–12 months ahead, especially when there’s a specific season or vacation in mind.
If next summer is the goal, now is the time to start the conversation.

What Liposuction Can’t Reach
Liposuction treats the fat above the platysma. Fullness from deeper fat beneath the muscle, or from the salivary glands under the jaw, won’t change with a cannula. When someone says their neck lipo didn’t do much, a missed deeper layer is the first thing to check. The procedure did what it was designed to do. The diagnosis stopped one layer short.
Skin that hangs at rest is the other limit. Once it no longer snaps back, tightening and contouring aren’t enough, and the fix becomes removing skin. Formation stays in contact with the surgeons who do that work well and points you to the right one. Sometimes the honest answer is to wait, or to work on your health first. If neck and chin liposuction won’t hold up for your anatomy, you’ll hear that in the consultation.
Procedure Day at Formation
Neck and jawline contouring is a shorter procedure done in Formation’s office. You take an oral medication for anxiety and sedation, and the area is numbed with local anesthesia, so there’s no general anesthesia involved. Dr. Grandhige works through very small incisions under the chin and behind each ear. He removes fat to sharpen the jawline while keeping its natural angles. He stops before the point where aggressive removal causes irregularities and early aging. Renuvion or FaceTite then tightens the skin so it settles over the muscle and bone.
His personally employed physician assistant assists on all of his surgeries, so the same team is in the room every time. Plan on spending most of a morning at the office, and arrange a ride home because of the sedative. Formation’s procedures that do need general anesthesia, such as HD liposuction of the body, take place in Quad A-accredited surgical facilities.
Recovery Week by Week
Daily life comes back in days. The final jawline takes months.
- First few days: mild swelling, bruising and tightness, with a chin compression garment on.
- At one week: back to work, social plans and training, wearing the garment 12 to 24 hours a day.
- Weeks two to four: swelling keeps settling, and the fat removal becomes clear.
- Around three months: skin tightening is visible, and the jawline is clearly sharper.
- Six to nine months: the final result, once tightening has fully matured.
Dr. Grandhige follows every patient for a full year, and nearly all of them keep every visit. Formation works by the 60/40 Recovery Standard: the procedure is 60 percent of the result and the care afterward is the other 40. Poor aftercare can undo a well-performed procedure.
Timing Contouring Around a Date
Count back from the date instead of forward from the procedure. Fat removal shows at two to four weeks, visible tightening needs three months, and the finished result needs six to nine. A procedure in late October puts the three-month mark near Gasparilla at the end of January. For the final result in December holiday photos, book in the spring.
Preparation and Recovery at Formation
Your result starts before the procedure. Formation assesses your health and diet first. Then nutrition, supplements and peptides are adjusted in the window right before and right after treatment, so your body builds the most structure it can while it heals. Lymphatic care, nutrition and coaching come from providers Dr. Grandhige has personally vetted for their track records.
That’s the core of Formation’s philosophy, which treats surgery as one part of a larger process. The instrument in the room is the same one other practices use. The thinking around it isn’t.
Dr. Grandhige and the Formation Team
Dr. Gopal Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. He is not a plastic surgeon, and his path explains how he reads a neck. He earned his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School and first matched into a six-year combined plastic surgery residency at Yale. He then completed a full general surgery residency and fellowship training in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. He’s certified by the American Board of Surgery, and over more than 15 years he has performed several thousand procedures.
Neck and jawline contouring is one of the areas he’s known for, along with male aesthetics and high-definition body contouring. His rule is to do only what’s necessary and to do that part well. In the neck, that means a sharp jaw without the tight, over-pulled look that tells people something was done.
Getting to Formation From Palma Ceia West
Formation is about two miles from Palma Ceia West, and nearly all of the drive is one street. West Morrison Avenue forms the neighborhood’s northern edge, and Grady Elementary sits right on it. Take Morrison east across Dale Mabry Highway into SoHo and turn right on South Howard Avenue. Formation is at 1315 South Howard, just past Bern’s Steak House.
The neighborhood runs from Morrison south to San Carlos Street, between Dale Mabry on the east and Lois Avenue on the west, so even its southern blocks are a few turns from Morrison. You’ll make the drive for the consultation, for procedure day as a passenger, and for follow-up visits across a full year.
How to Start: Virtual Evaluation or In-Office Consultation
The quickest first step is a complimentary virtual evaluation by video with Hanna, Formation’s patient coordinator. She reviews your goals and outlines a plan before you decide to come in. The call takes about 15 minutes.
The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at Formation. It’s a full surgical assessment: he reads all four layers, checks how your skin recoils and tells you what will and won’t help. Patients often share worries with his staff rather than with him. The staff passes them along so he can answer them without you having to ask.
Your Next Step
Your neck may need work on one layer or on all four, and only a proper read tells you which. Start with the complimentary virtual evaluation by video with Hanna, or book the in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige. Its fee can be applied toward any procedure or product. From Palma Ceia West, the answer is a short drive down Morrison Avenue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, and that’s what Dr. Grandhige plans around. He removes fat conservatively and keeps your natural jaw angles, because over-resection leaves irregularities and ages poorly. People tend to say you look rested, not that you had something done.
Yes. You take an oral sedative, and the area is numbed with local anesthesia in Formation’s office. There’s no general anesthesia, but you’ll need someone to drive you home.
At one week for both. You’ll wear the chin compression garment 12 to 24 hours a day during that first week.
Fat removal shows at two to four weeks, and skin tightening at about three months. The final result arrives at six to nine months, once tightening has fully matured.
The fat cells removed don’t come back. Aging continues, but removing excess fat here can reset the aging clock and slow future laxity when it’s done appropriately. A stable weight protects the result.
No. Women and men both have it done. Male necks need a different eye, since small errors can look feminized or artificial. Formation’s men’s aesthetic surgery page covers that side in more detail.
Bands and loose skin are separate layers with separate fixes. Platysmal bands call for MyEllevate with platysmaplasty. Loose skin that still recoils responds to Renuvion or FaceTite. Skin that hangs at rest needs removal, and Formation refers you to a surgeon who does that work well.
No, because they treat different layers. Radiesse and Juvederm build projection at the chin and jaw angle, but they can’t remove fat. If your frame is small and your fat is minimal, filler may be enough. If fat is the main layer, liposuction is the fix.
