Using hair products after PRP is safer than most aftercare sheets suggest. Skip shampoo and all styling products for the first 24 hours. From hour 24 to 72, use a mild fragrance-free cleanser and keep gels, sprays, and dry shampoo off your scalp. After 72 hours, most people return to their normal routine.
Your shampoo choice barely matters. The product decision that moves your density is getting back on minoxidil, and most patients agonize over sulfates instead.
Restarting shampoo, conditioner, styling products, and topicals affects comfort and surface irritation during the first three days after PRP. It does not reach the platelet-derived growth factors sitting under your skin. Those things happen in different layers.
The evidence for PRP is real and modest. Nine randomized trials covering 238 patients found density gains at three and six months against placebo, though the same review found no meaningful difference from placebo in hair count or shaft diameter. A 2024 review in Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia pooled 431 patients, then flagged publication bias in the field.
Wait 24 hours. Nearly every protocol agrees, because injection channels need time to seal.
Daily washing is fine after that. Frequency was never the problem. Scrubbing is. Use your fingertips, lukewarm water, and pat dry. If you want to maintain your hair between sessions, a light touch matters more than the bottle.
Nothing in the 2026 literature moved this clock. The version I use:
Alcohol-heavy sprays, strong fragrances, and medicated scalp treatments cause problems in the first 72 hours. Sulfates mostly don’t, and the industry has sold the opposite for years.
No controlled study shows sulfates degrade injected growth factors. None. The claim doesn’t survive basic anatomy, because your PRP sits below the skin surface and your shampoo sits above it. What sulfates can do is sting fresh injection sites and dry out a scalp that’s already tender.
One meta-analysis of 17 trial groups found density rising from roughly 142 to 178 hairs per square centimeter after PRP. Shampoo wasn’t a variable in any of them.
Actually, that framing isn’t quite right either. The issue isn’t chemistry. It’s open channels. Anything that irritates broken skin will irritate broken skin. A sulfate, a rosemary oil blend, a ketoconazole shampoo you’ve used for years without trouble.
Skip anything sold as a booster, too. No trial shows a commercial aftercare line adds density beyond PRP and standard medical therapy. Growth-factor serums and checkout kits are unproven. How PRP is prepared at your clinic moves the needle far more than anything you apply afterward.
Give all three 72 hours. Heat and product land on the same tender skin.
Blow dryers, flat irons, and curling wands raise scalp temperature over sites that are still closing. Alcohol-based gels and hairsprays sting. Dry shampoo is the sneakiest, because the powder settles into channels that haven’t fully sealed. Air dry, brush lightly, and wear your hair loose for three days.
Sweat runs on the same clock. You can walk. Light stretching is fine. Getting back in the gym for real work belongs on day three, once you’re not dripping onto a healing scalp.
Wait 10 to 14 days. That’s longer than the week most clinics quote, and I’ll defend the extra days.
Permanent color, bleach, relaxers, keratin, and perms put reactive chemistry directly on scalp skin. Federal safety guidance recommends a patch test with a 48-hour wait before every application, and notes most hair dyes reach shelves without FDA approval. Neither safeguard accounts for a scalp that took dozens of injections ten days ago.
Color before your session instead. Two to three days ahead is plenty, and it saves two weeks of waiting afterward.
Get back on minoxidil once your scalp stops feeling tender, usually day three to seven. This is the product decision with real data behind it.
Six pooled studies covering 343 participants found PRP plus minoxidil beat either one alone, with a weighted mean difference of 9.14 in hair density. Nothing on the shampoo aisle has numbers like that. A separate meta-analysis found that patients who space sessions further apart gain less density, and that older patients gain less than younger ones.
I’ve watched patients research sulfate-free bottles for three weeks, then let their minoxidil lapse for a month. That trade is backwards.
You leave with a written product schedule, not a vague warning about harsh chemicals.
Jeff Atlas, PA-C performs the PRP injections here. His orthopaedics background means he spent years watching how tissue responds to concentrated platelets in joints before scalps. I own the practice and I’m board certified in general surgery. Neither of us will sell you a shampoo.
Tampa makes the first 72 hours harder than it sounds. Heat, humidity, and sweat push people toward dry shampoo and heavy product before the scalp is ready. Where you get treated should include somebody who plans around that. Using hair products after PRP is a three-day problem, and it deserves a three-day plan.
Wait 24 hours before any shampoo or product touches your scalp. Between hour 24 and 72, use a mild fragrance-free shampoo only. After 72 hours, your normal routine is fine.
No controlled evidence shows sulfates harm PRP results, because injected platelets sit below the skin where shampoo cannot reach. Going gentle for three days is about comfort at tender injection sites. Any fragrance-free cleanser does that job.
Hold off for 72 hours. Dry shampoo powder settles into injection channels that haven't sealed yet, unlike a liquid that rinses away. It's the one patients forget most.
Restart topical minoxidil between day three and seven, once your scalp isn't tender. Oral finasteride never needs to stop. Six pooled studies covering 343 participants found PRP with minoxidil outperformed either alone.
Give it 10 to 14 days. Federal guidance recommends a patch test with a 48-hour wait before every dye application, and that assumes healthy scalp skin to begin with. Coloring two to three days before your session is easier.
Not after the first 72 hours. Nine randomized trials covering 238 patients showed PRP raises hair density against placebo, and none of that depends on your shampoo. Session spacing and minoxidil adherence carry more weight than any bottle.
Stop using it, switch to a bland fragrance-free cleanser, and call the office. True allergic reactions are uncommon but they happen, and irritation on a healing scalp is worth a call. Don't ride it out.
The last one got 11/10.
Some of the biggest factors affecting liposuction results have nothing to do with what happens in the operating room.
Dr. Gopal rates 13 factors that can influence the final result, from working out before surgery and maintaining a stable weight to compression garments, skin elasticity, and lymphatic massage.
A few of his ratings might surprise you.
For example, he rates skin elasticity a 10/10 because even after the fat is removed, the skin still needs to contract and settle over the new contour.
And lymphatic massage? He gives it an 11/10 because of the role it plays in his recovery protocol, helping manage swelling and supporting how the skin settles over the newly sculpted areas.
The takeaway: great liposuction results depend on more than the surgery itself.
Patient preparation, anatomy, recovery, and long-term weight maintenance all play a role.

Six to seven hours.
That’s how long an HD liposuction procedure can take with Dr. Gopal’s approach.
He’s not simply removing fat. He’s evaluating every square inch, considering the underlying anatomy, and shaping how each contour transitions into the next.
It’s detailed, physically demanding work.
So when Dr. Gopal says, “Someone’s gotta sweat for the fat to come off,” he means it.

Will neck lipo give you the jawline you want?
It depends…
Someone can have fullness under the chin and assume the answer is neck liposuction. But what looks like “fat” from the outside can actually come from several different structures.
Some fat sits directly beneath the skin and can respond very well to liposuction.
But fullness can also come from deeper fat beneath the platysma, the salivary glands under the jaw, muscles under the chin, or even the natural projection of the chin and jaw itself.
That distinction can completely change what neck liposuction can realistically accomplish.
This is why evaluating the anatomy matters before deciding on a procedure.
For the right anatomy, neck liposuction can create a significant change in the neck and jawline.
But when deeper structures are contributing to the fullness, liposuction alone may not create the contour someone is expecting.
A good neck lipo consultation should figure that out first.

Want more definition than workouts gave you?
Traditional liposuction focuses primarily on removing fat. HD liposuction goes further. It requires understanding the underlying muscle anatomy, where to remove fat, where to preserve it, and how each contour works together to create natural-looking definition.
That’s the art of it. The goal isn’t to give every patient the same abs or the same body. It’s to work with the anatomy that’s already there and determine how much definition will look right for that individual.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in high-definition liposuction and advanced body contouring, using nearly two decades of surgical experience to create results that look sculpted, athletic, and intentional.

Defined abs with HD liposuction.
Unlike traditional liposuction, where the primary goal is removing excess fat, HD liposuction is about strategically removing fat to reveal and enhance the underlying muscle structure.
Those markings you see before surgery help Dr. Gopal map out the patient’s anatomy and plan where to remove fat and where to preserve it to create more visible definition.
The second clip was taken immediately after surgery, so this is not the final result. Swelling and bruising will change significantly as the body heals and the final contour develops over the months that follow.

Skin quality changes everything.
Neck liposuction can create a more defined jawline and neck contour by removing unwanted fat, but the result also depends heavily on skin quality and elasticity.
When skin has good elasticity, neck lipo alone may be enough for the skin to contract around the new contour. With some skin laxity, Dr. Gopal may combine liposuction with a skin-tightening treatment such as Renuvion or FaceTite. With significant laxity, a neck lift may be the more appropriate option.
That’s why evaluating the skin is an important part of determining the right approach before neck liposuction.

Liposuction can change more than the body.
I’ve watched patients become more confident, make changes in their careers, show up differently in their relationships, and start making different choices for themselves.
That’s when I know I’ve done my job well.
Because high-definition liposuction isn’t only about creating a leaner, more defined physique. Sometimes the physical transformation becomes the catalyst for changes that reach far beyond the operating room.

Male liposuction requires a different approach.
The contours that create a more feminine shape aren’t necessarily the same ones that create a strong, athletic male physique.
With male high-definition liposuction, Dr. Gopal considers how the chest, abdomen, waist, ribs and back work together—and how the underlying muscle anatomy should guide where definition and shadow are created.
That’s also why the chest matters. A highly defined abdomen and back paired with a rounder, less-defined chest can make the overall result feel out of proportion.
The goal is a cohesive, athletic contour that works with the patient’s natural anatomy.

Choosing a liposuction surgeon isn’t just about looking at before-and-afters.
Liposuction isn’t simply about removing fat. Decisions around how much to remove, which areas to treat, skin quality, post-op care and recovery can all influence the approach to your result.
How a surgeon answers these questions can tell you a lot about how they think, plan and care for their patients.

6 months post high-definition liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal wasn’t just less fat. It was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
High-definition liposuction strategically sculpts around the underlying anatomy and can be customized based on a patient’s anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition they want to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.
Results vary by patient and depend on individual anatomy, skin quality, and treatment plan.
