SLU-PP-332 is used in labs to copy the effects of endurance exercise. In animal studies it raises energy use, burns fat, and improves stamina by switching on a set of cellular receptors tied to metabolism. That’s what SLU-PP-332 is used for right now, in the real world. It’s a research compound, not a treatment you can pick up at a clinic. I run a regenerative medicine program in Tampa, and I’ll say it plainly: the science is interesting, the online hype is mostly dishonest, and self-injecting a chemical labeled “not for human use” is a bad trade.
SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule developed at Saint Louis University that turns on estrogen-related receptors. In animal studies, it copies parts of the endurance-exercise response: more mitochondrial activity, higher fat burning, and better stamina. It’s sold for research only and is not approved for people.
So the answer splits in two. What researchers use it for, and what people online misuse it for. Those aren’t the same thing.
The longer answer is the one worth reading. Most of what’s written about SS-31 online comes from people who profit when you buy a vial. I run a regenerative medicine program in Tampa, and I’ll be blunt: SS-31 is one of the more interesting peptides out there, and one of the easiest to misuse. The science is real. A lot of the marketing is not. This article sorts the two.
SLU-PP-332 is a lab-made molecule that acts on a family of cellular switches called estrogen-related receptors, or ERRs. It’s not a peptide, even though half the sites selling it file it under peptides.
That trips people up, so let me correct a common mistake right away. A peptide is a short chain of amino acids. SLU-PP-332 isn’t one. It’s a small-molecule chemical that behaves like a key fitting a receptor lock. The “SLU” in the name comes from Saint Louis University, where Thomas Burris and his team first described it in ACS Chemical Biology in 2023.
ERRs sit inside your cells and control genes that run your mitochondria, the tiny engines that turn food into energy. Turn those receptors up, and the cell behaves like it just finished a workout. It builds more mitochondria and starts burning fat for fuel. In the lab, SLU-PP-332 hits all three ERR types, with the strongest pull on ERRα, the receptor most linked to endurance. If you want the basics of the wider category first, our guide to how peptide therapy works lays out the ground rules.
In the lab, SLU-PP-332 is used to study fat loss, endurance, and metabolic disease without making the animal exercise. That’s its whole reason for existing. A chemical stand-in for a treadmill.
The mouse data are consistent. In the earlier 2023 work from the Saint Louis University team, normal-weight mice given the compound ran about 70% longer and roughly 45% farther. A 2024 follow-up in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics went at obesity directly. Obese mice on the compound gained far less fat, around ten times less than untreated mice on the same diet, with better insulin sensitivity and glucose control. Separate 2023 research in the American Journal of Pathology reported that turning on these receptors reversed mitochondrial decline and calmed inflammation in aging kidneys.
Notice the pattern. Mice, mice, and more mice. There isn’t a single registered human trial for it on ClinicalTrials.gov. So when a website claims SLU-PP-332 melts fat in people, it’s borrowing rodent data and hoping you don’t check. That’s the opposite of how the evidence looks for peptides for weight loss that already have human trials behind them.
SLU-PP-332 gets sold as “exercise in a pill,” and some vendors even call it exercise in a bottle. It isn’t either one, and the reason matters more than the marketing.
I picture long-term health as a seesaw. On one side sits building: protein, resistance training, growth signals, muscle repair. On the other sits renewal: fasting, cleanup, burning stored fuel, clearing out worn cells. Health doesn’t come from living on one end. It comes from moving between them, the way your body already does across day and night, eating and fasting, training and rest.
A compound like this fakes one half of that motion. It nudges the body toward the fat-burning, mitochondria-building state that endurance work creates. Fine. But a molecule can’t recreate the whole rhythm, and it skips the parts of exercise that matter just as much: heart and lung fitness, bone strength, and the mood lift that comes from moving your body.
There’s a deeper problem too. Your body compensates. Push one pathway hard and leave the rest alone, and the body quietly routes around you through another pathway. The result comes out weaker than the sales page promised. That’s why we chase a goal through several pathways at once, with sleep, food, and training underneath all of it. A vial isn’t a strategy.
Let me sharpen that. Peptides and compounds like this don’t do the work. They fine-tune work that’s already happening. Your lifestyle does the lifting. The molecule just makes the effort land a little better. It’s the same trap I see with over-marketed longevity peptides, where the science is real but the sales funnel is doing the talking.
SLU-PP-332 lines up against two of the twelve hallmarks of aging in particular, with an early hint at a third.
Hallmarks of aging addressed: mitochondrial dysfunction, deregulated nutrient-sensing, with early animal signals on chronic inflammation (inflammaging).
Mitochondrial dysfunction is the big one. As we age, our cells make energy less well, and damaged mitochondria pile up. By switching on ERRs, SLU-PP-332 pushes cells to build fresh mitochondria and run them harder, at least in animals. Deregulated nutrient-sensing is the second. This is the loss of metabolic flexibility, the body’s fading ability to switch cleanly between burning sugar and burning fat. The better insulin sensitivity and fat oxidation seen in obese mice point to that pathway. On inflammation, the aging-kidney study is the clearest hint, though it’s a long way from proof in humans.
This is the same lens we apply to every compound in the clinic. Not “does it sound cool,” but which driver of aging it really touches, and whether we can reach that driver more safely another way.
Yes, you can find SLU-PP-332 for sale online in minutes, usually as a powder or capsules. That’s exactly the problem.
Every honest supplier labels it the same way: for research use only, not for human use. That label isn’t a formality. It means nobody tested that vial for the things that matter in a human body, like purity, sterility, and correct dose. You could be injecting bacterial contaminants, heavy metals, or a dose that’s nothing like the label. There are red flags worth checking before you trust any product that ships in a plain bag.
It also isn’t approved for anything. The compound has no FDA approval, and it doesn’t appear on the FDA’s list of bulk drug substances that pharmacies are allowed to compound for people. So a real clinic can’t legally hand it to you as a human-grade medication. Anyone selling it for personal use is selling an unregulated research chemical and calling it wellness.
We don’t offer SLU-PP-332 at Formation, and we won’t. Prescribing, dispensing, or injecting a research-grade molecule like this isn’t a gray area to us. It’s a line we don’t cross. Every peptide we use is human-grade, made by licensed compounding pharmacies that follow United States Pharmacopeia standards and test each batch for purity, sterility, and dose.
Social media turned peptides into a do-it-yourself hobby. They’re trending, but they aren’t a passing fad, and they aren’t the villain either. Insulin is a peptide. Insulin isn’t a trend. It’s a powerful molecule the body makes that saves lives when used right and hurts people when used wrong. The same logic covers everything in this category. A peptide, or a compound like SLU-PP-332, isn’t good or bad on its own. What matters is whether it’s used on purpose, for the right person, inside a real plan. Influencer funnels and gray-market vials aren’t a plan. They’re a trend cycle wearing a lab coat.
Honest answer on safety: we don’t fully know, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.
The animal data look clean enough, but short-term tolerability in mice isn’t the same as long-term safety in people. Human safety data barely exist. Researchers have flagged a rise in resting heart rate as a signal worth watching, and by 2026 anti-doping labs had started mapping how to detect the compound, which tells you where the real interest sits. Anecdotal user reports add hot flashes and sweating to the list, plus a pattern people call mitochondrial overspin: run it too hard without supporting your mitochondria, and you get fatigue, overheating, and worse recovery instead of better. Most careful users cycle it rather than take it every day, which is itself a quiet admission that continuous use isn’t well understood.
There’s also the interaction question no home user can answer. What else are you taking? What’s your heart history? What should be ruled out before you touch a molecule that acts on metabolism across your whole body? A compound that works everywhere can cause problems everywhere if it’s used blind. This is also why not everyone’s a candidate. Deciding who’s actually a fit is a clinical judgment, not a checkout button.
At Formation, our regenerative medicine clinic in Tampa, we don’t start with the molecule. We start with you.
Before anyone gets a protocol, we work through five questions. Is this person actually a fit? What’s the real goal? What should we rule out first? What do we monitor over time? And the one most sellers skip: what if it’s not worth continuing? A good clinician will tell you to stop.
The regenerative program runs separately from the surgery side of the practice. It’s owned and led by Dr. Gopal Grandhige, a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. Your injections aren’t done by the owner, though. They’re handled by Jeff Atlas, PA-C, who came to us from orthopaedics and brought that hands-on injection background with him. We hold SSRP certification and ISSCA certification, the bodies that certify protocols for peptides, exosomes, and stem cells. Our main clinic is in Tampa, and we see patients at other locations too.
There’s a part no vial replaces. SLU-PP-332 mimics endurance exercise, so the lifestyle that rides the same pathway is obvious: zone-two cardio a few times a week, resistance training to hold muscle, enough protein, and real sleep, plus stretches where you let the body run on stored fuel instead of constant snacking. Do those, and any clinical tool works better. Skip them, and no compound saves you.
If your goal is the thing SLU-PP-332 promises, more energy, easier fat loss, better recovery, there are legal, studied, human-grade tools that go after the same targets. Growth-hormone-releasing peptides get prescribed and monitored properly, and if you’re weighing options, our breakdown of tesamorelin or sermorelin shows how that call gets made against your labs, not a trend. Unlike appetite-suppressing weight drugs, these work on energy and muscle instead of hunger, so the plan around them matters even more. That’s why we keep a concierge dietician on staff. A compound that moves metabolism is only as good as the food and training built around it.
So, what is SLU-PP-332 used for? In the real world, it’s a research tool that copies exercise in mice, full stop. Everything past that is either a future maybe or a sales pitch. The compound might earn a place in medicine someday, once humans, not rodents, have been studied, and by 2026 researchers were already building tweaked versions meant to work as a pill. Until then, buying it online means self-experimenting with an unregulated chemical, and I’ve watched people spend months and real effort doing exactly that, only to end up worse off than when they started. If you want the outcomes people chase with SLU-PP-332, get a plan instead of a vial. Call the team in Tampa at (813) 922-2920 and we’ll tell you honestly whether any tool fits your goals, or whether the work is simply yours to do.
No. SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small molecule that acts on estrogen-related receptors, not a chain of amino acids. It gets miscategorized as a peptide because it's sold on peptide-focused websites, but structurally it's a different kind of compound.
SLU-PP-332 is used in research as an exercise mimetic, a compound that copies the effects of endurance exercise. In a 2024 study, obese mice given it burned more fat and gained around ten times less fat than untreated mice. It isn't approved for people, so its only real-world use today is laboratory study.
No. SLU-PP-332 has no FDA approval and doesn't appear on the FDA's list of bulk drug substances that pharmacies may compound for people. It's sold only for research use, so a licensed clinic can't legally provide it as a human-grade medication.
You can buy it as a research chemical, but every honest supplier labels it not for human use. Those products are unregulated, with no guarantee of purity, sterility, or accurate dosing. Buying it for personal use means self-experimenting with an untested chemical.
Human safety data barely exist, so nobody can give a reliable side-effect profile. Animal work flagged an increased resting heart rate, and anecdotal users report hot flashes, sweating, and fatigue when they overuse it. Short-term tolerability in mice isn't the same as proven long-term safety in humans.
In mouse studies it cut fat mass and improved metabolic markers, and a 2024 paper reported far less fat gain in obese models. No human weight-loss trials have been completed, so any claim about results in people rests on rodent data. Options with real human evidence are a safer starting point.
No. It copies some of exercise's effects, like more oxidative muscle fibers and better fat burning, but it misses others, including heart and lung fitness, bone strength, and the mental-health benefits of moving. At best it's a possible add-on to training, not a swap for it.

1 Month Post-Op Transformation! 💥
Fixing previous surgical outcomes requires precision, expertise, and a tailored approach.
Here’s how Dr. Grandhige transformed this patient’s core and chest:
The Challenge:
Previous tummy tuck left uneven abdominal fat distribution
High scar placement creating a visible “shelf” effect
The Solution:
HD Liposculpture to refine and sculpt a athletic, masculine core and chest
Scar Revision to eliminate the shelf-like appearance and create a smoother profile
Keep in mind, at just 1 month post-op, swelling is still settling and we are nowhere near final results! Can’t wait to see this shape mature over the next few months. 🔥

What makes this journey even more special is where it began. Two years ago, this patient came to us wanting change but wasn’t quite ready for the operating table. Instead of rushing, we partnered with her for the long haul. Through the strategic use of GLP-1 therapy, dedicated nutrition guidance, and mindset coaching, she completely transformed her health to get to where she is today.
While she is already looking incredible, it’s important to remember that residual swelling and inflammation are completely normal at this stage. Healing takes time, but the foundation for an amazing result is officially set!
We are so incredibly honored to be a part of every patient`s unique journey, and we are committed to being with you every single step of the way.
