Tummy Tuck
for Women

With an abdominoplasty, sometimes known as a tummy tuck, women can enjoy a smaller waistline and a tighter, more toned belly.
Despite adequate diet and exercise, as you age, after pregnancy, and after successfully losing weight (this includes many of our patients after weight-loss surgery), you can be left with pockets of fat, hanging skin, and a weak abdominal musculature. At Formation, we offer a variety of techniques that are selected for your individual needs in order to tighten and define your abdomen, remove loose skin and create a firm, smooth abdomen. Often, liposuction is done simultaneously in order to further enhance and sculpt, adding definition to your abdominal wall.
Combined with procedures such as breast enhancement, liposuction, buttock enhancement, arm or thigh lift, and facial rejuvenation, the tummy tuck has been popularized as part of a “mommy makeover”.

What is an Abdominoplasty?

There are various techniques employed here at Formation, specifically tailored to the female figure. By tightening lax abdominal muscles, removing excess fat and skin often blemished with stretch marks thereby reshaping the mid-section, we achieve dramatic results. tighten and reshape the midsection. The abdomen has upper and lower portions and based on the type of procedure performed, we can address one or both areas. Based on the way women store fat compared to men, tummy tucks are even more effective at revealing the underlying slender, toned body.

Traditional Tummy Tuck

This is the most common type of abdominoplasty, featuring an incision that runs from hipbone to hipbone just below the panty line. Dr. Grandhige tightens the abdominal muscles and eliminates extra skin through the expanded incision to create a smoother, firmer abdomen. During the treatment, liposuction may be performed to increase the definition and contouring of the abdomen. During this surgery, the navel is typically relocated to achieve a more natural-looking result.

Mini Tummy Tuck for Women

This less invasive surgery, which is also known as a limited incision abdominoplasty, may be recommended to patients who just require correction below the navel. However, the results of this procedure will not create the substantial improvement that can be achieved with a standard procedure. The incision that is made for a mini abdominoplasty is made in the same place as the one that is made for a standard abdominoplasty, below the bikini line; however, it is much shorter than the one that is made for the traditional procedure. In most cases, the navel does not require repositioning in order for this treatment to be successful.

Extended Tummy Tuck for Women

An extended tummy tuck is typically recommended for patients who have experienced dramatic weight loss (either through bariatric surgery or other means) that’s left them with a considerable amount of excess skin. In this technique, a vertical incision is made across the middle of the patient’s torso, in addition to the traditional horizontal incision that is made during a full tummy tuck. In order to achieve horizontal tightness and a smoother finish, this additional incision gives the surgeon the ability to remove more superfluous skin than was previously possible. Altering the position of the belly button is usually required in order to achieve the most natural-looking outcome.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

A circumferential abdominoplasty, also known as a belt lipectomy, provides the largest degree of correction, and is most commonly used in patients who have lost over 70 pounds – resulting in significant quantities of excess skin around the entire trunk (abdomen, flanks and back). In addition to flattening the abdomen and narrowing the waist line, a circumferential tummy tuck eliminates excess skin from the hips, flanks and buttocks. As the name suggests, the incision encircles the entire body, providing for spectacular, three-dimensional results.

The Recovery Process

It is usual to have significant discomfort and swelling following a female tummy tuck. For the first few days, discomfort can be managed with prescription medicines. Although you may want to rest after surgery, we recommend that you begin walking immediately to aid in healing and prevent blood clots. The majority of patients return to normal activities within three to four weeks, with restrictions on lifting and vigorous exercise lasting up to eight weeks. Any scars will eventually heal and often become almost undetectable. If you maintain a healthy weight following your surgery and have fully healed from your women’s abdominoplasty, you can expect your results to last a lifetime.
