Abdominoplasty
For Men

Men can achieve a flat, toned midsection, narrower waistline, and improved self-esteem with an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.
As men age and experience changes to their shape or size due to weight loss or surgery, they can be left with pockets of fat, weak abdominal musculature, or hanging skin that’s difficult to correct through diet and exercise alone. Abdominoplasty can help.
You can also combine abdominoplasty with upper body liposuction, treatment of gynecomastia, liposuction of chin/neck/jawline, or eyelid surgery to achieve the popular Daddy Do Over.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the abdominal wall. Since men accumulate fat differently than women, often storing it intra-abdominally or around the intestines and organs rather than between the skin and abdominal musculature, their abdominoplasty needs can differ from those of our female patients. Simply removing and pulling excess skin evenly around the abdomen can improve the form, but in male patients, a more defined physique is typically desired.

Traditional Abdominoplasty

A standard tummy tuck addresses skin laxity and weak abdominal wall muscles. This traditional abdominoplasty technique results in two incisions: one low-lying incision that spans the lower abdomen, and a second incision concealed around the belly button. The majority of swimwear and underwear will cover these incision scars. During this procedure, the abdominal muscles are pulled closer together, providing a firmer abdomen and a narrower waistline. The excess skin is removed, smoothing and flattening the mid-section.

Mini Abdominoplasty

A mini abdominoplasty is recommended for patients with only a small amount of abdominal skin laxity and central abdominal muscle separation. A short, low scar just above the pubic region is used to remove excess skin and tighten abdominal muscles, flattening the mid-section.

Extended Abdominoplasty

Patients who have a lot of extra skin and abdominal wall laxity may be candidates for an extended abdominoplasty or fleur de lis tummy tuck. Through a low scar that runs through the lower flanks, abdomen, and pubic area combined with a vertical incision spanning the torso, a substantial quantity of abdominal and flank skin is removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Repositioning of the belly button is often necessary to produce a natural result.
This version of the tummy tuck tightens and flattens the entire lower torso and narrows the waistline. It also prevents the development of “muffin tops” or side bulges in patients who received a standard abdominoplasty but may have been better suited for an extended tummy tuck.

The Recovery Process

It is usual to have significant discomfort and swelling following a male tummy tuck. For the first few days, discomfort can be managed with prescription medicines. Although you may want to rest after surgery, we recommend that you begin walking immediately to aid in healing and prevent blood clots. The majority of patients return to normal activities within three to four weeks, with restrictions on lifting and vigorous exercise lasting up to eight weeks. Any scars will eventually heal and often become almost undetectable. If you maintain a healthy weight following your surgery and have fully healed from your male abdominoplasty, you can expect your results to last a lifetime.
