Found a firm lump on your neck a week or two after FaceTite? Take a breath. This is one of the most common things patients call us about, and in the large majority of cases it’s a normal part of healing, not a red flag. The lump on your neck after FaceTite usually means your tissue is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
A lump on your neck after FaceTite is almost always temporary. The procedure uses radiofrequency heat to melt fat and tighten skin, so your body answers with swelling, firm scar tissue, and sometimes a small pocket of fluid. Most of these lumps soften and flatten on their own within a few weeks.
The trick is knowing which lumps are normal, which ones need attention, and what actually helps them go away faster.
Lumps form because FaceTite heats the tissue under your skin on purpose. That controlled heat is the whole point, and it’s also why you feel firmness after.
The radiofrequency energy heats the fat and the layer just under your skin to trigger fat melting and collagen tightening. Your body reacts to that heat with inflammation, which shows up as swelling and firm spots. A few things drive the bumps you feel:
None of that is a sign something went wrong. It’s the heat doing its job and your body cleaning up after.
Most lumps are harmless. A few are not. The difference usually comes down to how the lump feels and what’s happening around it.
A normal lump is firm or soft, not painful, and slowly shrinks week over week. A lump that needs a call feels hot, gets redder, or grows fast. Watch for signs of infection like spreading warmth, a fever, or fluid draining from the site. Those are rare after FaceTite, but they’re the ones you don’t sit on.
One rule I give patients is simple. Soft and shrinking is fine, hard and growing gets a phone call.
Most lumps after FaceTite fade in three to eight weeks. Deeper firmness can take a few months. Full skin tightening keeps going well past that.
That last part surprises people. The skin doesn’t finish tightening the day the swelling drops. Researchers reporting on radiofrequency-assisted liposuction found that soft tissue keeps tightening up to 34% over 12 months, compared to about 6% for standard non-heated lipo. So the neck you see at week six is not the final result. Your collagen is still remodeling for months.
Roughly, the pattern breaks down like this:
Patience beats poking at it. I’ve watched too many patients convince themselves week three is the finish line. It isn’t.
Good circulation clears swelling and feeds healing tissue. That’s why gentle movement matters more than lying still.
Short, easy walks get blood moving without straining the incisions. Drink water. And skip nicotine in every form, because it squeezes your blood vessels shut and slows everything down. Nicotine is the single worst thing you can do to a healing neck. Keep the blood flowing and the nicotine gone, and the swelling clears on a normal schedule.
Sleeping propped up is one of the easiest wins in FaceTite recovery. Gravity pulls fluid down and away from your neck instead of letting it pool overnight.
Use two or three pillows or a wedge. Sleep on your back, not your side, so you’re not pressing on healing tissue. Elevation pays off most in the first few days, when swelling is at its worst, and most people notice less morning puffiness within a few nights of doing it right.

It applies steady, gentle pressure that limits fluid buildup and helps your skin lay flat against its new shape. Fit matters. Too tight cuts off circulation, too loose does nothing. Wear it as long as your provider tells you, and when you shower, learn how to keep it dry so the fabric holds its shape. Skipping the garment to be comfortable is a trade most people regret when the swelling lingers.
Cold works in the first 48 to 72 hours. After that, it mostly doesn’t.
In those first days, cold narrows the blood vessels and calms swelling. Use it for 10 to 15 minutes at a time with a cloth between the pack and your skin. Never ice bare skin. Past the three-day mark, your provider may switch you to gentle warmth instead, which helps soften firm areas rather than fight fresh swelling.
Your lymphatic system is the drainage network that hauls fluid and waste out of the treated area. After FaceTite, it can get backed up, and that backup is part of why you feel lumps.
Gentle lymphatic massage can help move that fluid along, but timing is everything. Done too early or too hard, it makes swelling worse. This is true for most neck-contouring recovery, not just FaceTite. Wait for your provider to clear you, usually a few days in, and let a trained therapist show you the technique before you try it at home.
If a lump is still there several months out, get it looked at. Most fade. The stubborn ones have simple fixes.
A provider might use a small injection to soften scar tissue or drain a fluid pocket. In rare cases, a quick in-office touch-up handles a firm spot. Hard complications are uncommon. In that 2024 neck-contouring study, satisfaction reached 94% by six months, up from 22% before surgery, with only about 7.5% needing any revision at a year. Don’t try to fix a lasting lump yourself with heat or aggressive rubbing. That usually makes it angrier.
Your result depends on the work and on how you treat your neck while it heals. The habits are boring and they work.
Eat protein and produce to feed tissue repair. Go easy on salt so you hold less fluid. Protect the skin with sunscreen once you’re cleared. Call if a lump feels hot, grows fast, drains fluid, or comes with a fever. Call if pain climbs instead of easing. Those signs are uncommon, and catching them early keeps small problems small.
