Short answer: FaceTite is not FDA approved. It’s FDA cleared. The radiofrequency device behind it, the InMode RF System, passed through the FDA’s 510(k) clearance pathway, with a decision logged on February 19, 2016. Cleared and approved sound interchangeable. They aren’t. The space between those two words is exactly why so many patients land on this question before booking.
When someone asks me if FaceTite is FDA approved, the real question underneath is simpler. Is it safe, and does it do what the before-and-after photos promise? Both fair. The accurate answer just needs a bit more honesty than most marketing pages offer. Plenty of clinic pages print FDA approved without blinking, which only deepens the confusion.
This piece skips pricing and skips the sales pitch. It walks through what the clearance covers, what it leaves out, and how to read all of it before you hand your face to anyone with a probe.
FaceTite is cleared, not approved. The FDA cleared the InMode RF System through a process called 510(k), which lets a company sell a moderate-risk device once it shows the device works much like one already on the market. You can pull up the FDA’s clearance record yourself. It lists clearance number K151793, a February 2016 decision date, and a status of substantially equivalent.
That phrase, substantially equivalent, is the part that matters. The maker didn’t have to prove FaceTite was safe and that it worked from scratch. They had to show it closely resembled an existing cleared device, what the FDA calls a predicate. Same general technology, same general use, lighter burden of proof.
This isn’t a knock on FaceTite. Thousands of common medical tools sit in the same category. But cleared and approved carry different weight, and you should know which one applies to the treatment you’re paying for.
FaceTite is a minimally invasive skin tightening treatment. It uses radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis, or RFAL, to heat tissue under the skin through a thin probe inserted through tiny punctures. The heat melts small fat pockets and prompts the body to build collagen. The result is a firmer jawline, chin, and neck without a full facelift.
A second sensor sits on the skin surface and tracks temperature, so the heat stays in a controlled range. There are no long incisions and no stitches. Most patients go home the same day. If you want the full picture of how FaceTite works, the mechanism is less mysterious than the name suggests.

Clearance and approval are two different doors into the same building. The FDA clears moderate-risk medical devices when they match an existing product. It approves higher-risk devices, things like heart valves and implantable pumps, only after a much longer review of safety and benefit called premarket approval, or PMA.
FaceTite is a Class II device, the moderate-risk middle tier. So it took the clearance route, not the approval route. Class III devices, the ones that can keep you alive, take the harder PMA path.
This is where I correct the record, including pages on plenty of clinic websites, ours among them at times. Calling FaceTite FDA approved is technically wrong. It’s a small slip with real meaning, because regulators and courts treat the two terms as separate claims. The accurate line is FDA cleared.
Clearance points toward safety, but it isn’t a personal guarantee. The 510(k) process means the FDA looked at the device and its track record, not at the specific clinic or the specific patient. FaceTite carries a strong safety record in practice. Serious problems like infection, burns, or noticeable scarring show up in under 1% of cases when a qualified provider runs the treatment.
The everyday reality is milder. Swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness are common for the first week or two, and the numbness can linger for several weeks. None of that is a complication. It’s the normal arc of healing. I tell patients to expect a puffy few days, not a red-carpet face by the weekend.
One stubborn myth deserves a direct hit. Non-surgical does not mean no downtime and no risk. It means less of both. If you want the detail on common side effects, read it before you decide, not after.
On satisfaction, the patient review platform RealSelf shows a Worth It rating near 80%. Decent, not universal. The gap usually traces back to expectations and provider skill, not the device itself.
FaceTite fits a specific patient, not everyone with a question about their jawline. The target is mild to moderate skin laxity along the chin, jawline, and neck, usually in adults from their 30s to their 50s who are near a stable weight. If your skin still has decent bounce and you’re not ready for surgery, you’re in range.
Demand for this kind of treatment is climbing. National data from plastic surgeons shows minimally invasive procedures rose about 3% in 2024, and skin-tightening interest grew as patients lost weight fast on GLP-1 medications and noticed new facial looseness. A lot of those faces want exactly what RFAL offers.
If your main complaint is fine lines or sun damage rather than looseness, FaceTite is the wrong tool. It tightens and contours. It does not resurface or fade pigment.

A facelift lifts and removes loose skin and repositions deeper tissue through real incisions, with weeks of recovery and longer-lasting results. FaceTite tightens from underneath without removing skin, which is why it reads as a non-surgical facelift alternative rather than a replacement.
The ceiling is real. Studies on RFAL report up to roughly 40% improvement in skin laxity in the first year. Useful, but a fraction of what a facelift delivers for heavy sagging. If your skin is very loose, FaceTite will underwhelm you, and no amount of energy will change that.
