You prepare for a FaceTite procedure by stopping blood-thinning medications and supplements about ten days ahead, quitting nicotine completely, arranging a ride home and a quiet place to rest, and following the pre-op checklist your surgeon hands you. Do that, and your recovery starts on the right foot.
FaceTite tightens loose skin on the lower face, jawline, and neck using heat from radiofrequency energy, and it does this without the long recovery of a surgical lift. The prep itself takes minutes. Skipping it is where people run into swelling, slow healing, and results that fall short. I’ve watched that happen more than once. The good news is the list of things you actually need to do is short.
FaceTite is a minimally invasive skin-tightening treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to heat tissue under the skin, soften small pockets of fat, and trigger new collagen. A surgeon makes one tiny incision near the jawline and works through it. Most people stay awake, and recovery runs in days, not weeks.
That last part is the catch. Because a FaceTite procedure sits somewhere between a facial and a facelift, people assume it needs almost no prep. It does. The heat is doing real work under your skin, and how you show up affects how you heal.
It’s a popular choice for a reason. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons counted more than 28 million minimally invasive procedures in 2024, and they now outnumber cosmetic surgeries by more than two to one. That popularity has a downside. A lot of those patients walk in underprepared, and a few small steps put you ahead of most of them.
Who is it for? Adults with mild to moderate skin looseness who want a sharper jaw and neck without surgery and without weeks away from work. FaceTite won’t fix what a surgical lift is meant to fix, and it isn’t something you can coast through either. The work you put in before and after is what separates a good result from a forgettable one.
Start about two weeks out. The two changes that carry the most weight are clearing blood thinners from your system and dropping nicotine entirely. Everything else is logistics, and logistics are easy once you have a plan. The reason the timing matters is simple. Your body needs a clean baseline to heal well, and the substances below quietly work against that.
A simple timeline:
Roughly ten days before your appointment, stop anything that thins your blood. That covers over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and aspirin, plus the supplements people forget about, like fish oil, vitamin E, and high-dose turmeric. These all raise your risk of bruising and bleeding during a procedure built around precise heat.
If you take a prescription blood thinner for a heart condition, do not stop on your own. Call the doctor who prescribed it and your surgeon, and let them work out the timing together. That coordination is part of the prep too.
Nicotine is the one I get strict about. It squeezes your blood vessels shut and chokes off the blood flow your skin needs to heal. That means more swelling, slower recovery, and a real chance of a worse result.
And yes, this includes vapes, patches, gum, and pouches, not just cigarettes. I ask patients to quit at least two weeks before and stay off it through the early healing window. If you’ve been meaning to quit anyway, this is your reason.
Recovery from FaceTite is short, but the first few days ask you to actually slow down. Set up before the procedure, not after, when you’ll have a wrapped face and zero motivation.
Pick one spot. A bed or a deep couch where you can prop your head up, which keeps swelling down. Stock it the day before with water, soft food you don’t have to chew much, your phone charger, and something to watch. Stay hydrated and skip alcohol for the first several days, since it slows healing and feeds swelling. Hold off on hard workouts and heavy lifting for about a week, because raising your heart rate too soon can make swelling worse.
Plan to rest for three to four days. In one published RFAL neck and face series, most patients were back to work within two days, but build in margin, because faces swell on their own schedule.
Line up a ride home, since you shouldn’t drive yourself afterward. If you’ve got kids, pets, or a packed inbox, hand those off for the first 24 hours. The patients who recover best are the ones who cleared their calendar instead of pretending they could power through.
On the day, FaceTite is usually done awake in the office using local numbing, so there’s no general anesthesia to recover from. The treatment itself is quick, often under an hour for a single area.
Come with a clean face. No makeup, no lotion, no sunscreen. Wear a top that buttons or zips so you’re not pulling fabric over your head later. Eat a light meal beforehand unless we tell you otherwise, and bring a list of anything you’re still taking so we can check it against your stop list one last time.
During the treatment, Dr. Grandhige makes a pin-sized incision near the back of the jawline and slides a thin radiofrequency probe under the skin. It’s the same controlled heat behind broader jawline and neck contouring, focused here on the lower face. The incision is small enough that it rarely leaves a visible mark. You’ll feel warmth and some pressure, not sharp pain. Then you head home the same day with your wrap on.
The headwrap is not optional, and wearing it wrong is one of the most common ways people compromise their own results.
For the first three days, keep it on around the clock. It controls swelling and helps your skin settle against its new contour. After those three days, switch to wearing it only at night for about two more weeks. If the wrap feels too tight or starts to dig in, tell us. Comfortable and consistent beats white-knuckling through it.
Swelling and some bruising are normal for one to two weeks, which is the part the zero downtime marketing tends to skip. Your skin keeps tightening for months as new collagen forms, so what you see at two weeks is not the final result. One study of 80 patients tracked an average reduction in neck length of 23 millimeters at the six-month mark, and that kind of change builds gradually. Patience is part of the job here.
This is the part nobody preps for, and it matters more than any supplement on your stop list. Who holds the device decides your result.
FaceTite runs on heat, and heat in the wrong hands burns or leaves you uneven. The research puts complication rates low, around 5% and mostly minor, but that number assumes an experienced provider.
I’ll say the unpopular part out loud. A deep discount at a med spa is not a deal. Uneven tightening and revision work cost you far more in time and stress than picking the right person up front.
Ask how many FaceTite cases they’ve done. Ask to see their own before-and-after photos, not the manufacturer’s. Ask what they’d do if your result came out uneven, because a provider with a clear answer has seen the full range of outcomes. Confirm you’re seeing board-certified surgeons who do this work regularly. The radiofrequency platforms themselves carry FDA clearance, but clearance covers the device, not the skill of the hand using it.
I’ll be straight about what FaceTite is not. It’s not a facelift.
It works well for mild to moderate skin looseness. If you have heavy, sagging skin and deep jowls, FaceTite alone will underwhelm you, and a good surgeon will tell you that at the consultation instead of selling you the wrong thing. Results tend to last several years, not forever, and some people return for maintenance.
Satisfaction is strong when the match is right. In that same RFAL series, about 85% of patients rated themselves satisfied, happy, or extremely happy. For sharper definition, some patients pair FaceTite with neck liposuction, decided case by case. Anyone promising a permanent, dramatic lift from a device alone is overselling. Believe the people who show you honest photos of patients who looked like you.
The honest version is simple. FaceTite is a strong middle option for the right candidate. Going in with that expectation is its own kind of preparation.
So how can you prepare for your FaceTite procedure? Clear the blood thinners, drop the nicotine, set up your recovery spot, and choose someone who does this work all the time. The procedure rewards patients who take the small steps seriously.
In our Tampa clinic, Dr. Grandhige walks each patient through their own pre-op list during the consultation at Formation, because no two faces and no two health histories are the same. Bring your questions. The more you understand before the day, the easier the days after feel.
Set up one quiet recovery spot before your appointment with water, soft food, and entertainment within reach, and prop your head up to limit swelling. Arrange a ride home and clear your schedule for the first 24 hours. The patients who plan their space ahead of time recover with the least stress.
Stop over-the-counter blood thinners like ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, and vitamin E about ten days before your procedure to lower your bruising and bleeding risk. If you take a prescription blood thinner, never stop on your own. Coordinate the timing with both your prescriber and your surgeon.
You'll need to stop. Nicotine narrows your blood vessels and cuts the blood flow your skin relies on to heal, which can mean more swelling and a poorer result. That applies to vapes, patches, gum, and pouches, not only cigarettes, and most surgeons want you nicotine-free for at least two weeks before and through early recovery.
Most swelling and bruising settle within one to two weeks, despite the common zero downtime claim. Your skin keeps tightening for several months as new collagen forms, so the final result builds gradually. One 2024 study measured an average neck-length reduction of 23 millimeters at six months.
For mild to moderate skin looseness, satisfaction tends to be high. In one published radiofrequency neck and face series, roughly 85% of patients rated themselves satisfied, happy, or extremely happy. For heavy sagging or deep jowls, FaceTite alone usually underwhelms, and a surgical lift may suit you better.
No. FaceTite is typically performed awake in the office with local numbing, so there's no general anesthesia to recover from. You feel warmth and pressure rather than sharp pain, and you go home the same day.
Confirm you're seeing a board-certified surgeon who performs FaceTite regularly, and ask to view their own before-and-after photos rather than manufacturer images. Complication rates run low, around 5% and mostly minor, but that figure depends heavily on the provider's experience with radiofrequency energy.
The last one got 11/10.
Some of the biggest factors affecting liposuction results have nothing to do with what happens in the operating room.
Dr. Gopal rates 13 factors that can influence the final result, from working out before surgery and maintaining a stable weight to compression garments, skin elasticity, and lymphatic massage.
A few of his ratings might surprise you.
For example, he rates skin elasticity a 10/10 because even after the fat is removed, the skin still needs to contract and settle over the new contour.
And lymphatic massage? He gives it an 11/10 because of the role it plays in his recovery protocol, helping manage swelling and supporting how the skin settles over the newly sculpted areas.
The takeaway: great liposuction results depend on more than the surgery itself.
Patient preparation, anatomy, recovery, and long-term weight maintenance all play a role.

Six to seven hours.
That’s how long an HD liposuction procedure can take with Dr. Gopal’s approach.
He’s not simply removing fat. He’s evaluating every square inch, considering the underlying anatomy, and shaping how each contour transitions into the next.
It’s detailed, physically demanding work.
So when Dr. Gopal says, “Someone’s gotta sweat for the fat to come off,” he means it.

Will neck lipo give you the jawline you want?
It depends…
Someone can have fullness under the chin and assume the answer is neck liposuction. But what looks like “fat” from the outside can actually come from several different structures.
Some fat sits directly beneath the skin and can respond very well to liposuction.
But fullness can also come from deeper fat beneath the platysma, the salivary glands under the jaw, muscles under the chin, or even the natural projection of the chin and jaw itself.
That distinction can completely change what neck liposuction can realistically accomplish.
This is why evaluating the anatomy matters before deciding on a procedure.
For the right anatomy, neck liposuction can create a significant change in the neck and jawline.
But when deeper structures are contributing to the fullness, liposuction alone may not create the contour someone is expecting.
A good neck lipo consultation should figure that out first.

Want more definition than workouts gave you?
Traditional liposuction focuses primarily on removing fat. HD liposuction goes further. It requires understanding the underlying muscle anatomy, where to remove fat, where to preserve it, and how each contour works together to create natural-looking definition.
That’s the art of it. The goal isn’t to give every patient the same abs or the same body. It’s to work with the anatomy that’s already there and determine how much definition will look right for that individual.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in high-definition liposuction and advanced body contouring, using nearly two decades of surgical experience to create results that look sculpted, athletic, and intentional.

Defined abs with HD liposuction.
Unlike traditional liposuction, where the primary goal is removing excess fat, HD liposuction is about strategically removing fat to reveal and enhance the underlying muscle structure.
Those markings you see before surgery help Dr. Gopal map out the patient’s anatomy and plan where to remove fat and where to preserve it to create more visible definition.
The second clip was taken immediately after surgery, so this is not the final result. Swelling and bruising will change significantly as the body heals and the final contour develops over the months that follow.

Skin quality changes everything.
Neck liposuction can create a more defined jawline and neck contour by removing unwanted fat, but the result also depends heavily on skin quality and elasticity.
When skin has good elasticity, neck lipo alone may be enough for the skin to contract around the new contour. With some skin laxity, Dr. Gopal may combine liposuction with a skin-tightening treatment such as Renuvion or FaceTite. With significant laxity, a neck lift may be the more appropriate option.
That’s why evaluating the skin is an important part of determining the right approach before neck liposuction.

Liposuction can change more than the body.
I’ve watched patients become more confident, make changes in their careers, show up differently in their relationships, and start making different choices for themselves.
That’s when I know I’ve done my job well.
Because high-definition liposuction isn’t only about creating a leaner, more defined physique. Sometimes the physical transformation becomes the catalyst for changes that reach far beyond the operating room.

Male liposuction requires a different approach.
The contours that create a more feminine shape aren’t necessarily the same ones that create a strong, athletic male physique.
With male high-definition liposuction, Dr. Gopal considers how the chest, abdomen, waist, ribs and back work together—and how the underlying muscle anatomy should guide where definition and shadow are created.
That’s also why the chest matters. A highly defined abdomen and back paired with a rounder, less-defined chest can make the overall result feel out of proportion.
The goal is a cohesive, athletic contour that works with the patient’s natural anatomy.

6 months post high-definition liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal wasn’t just less fat. It was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
High-definition liposuction strategically sculpts around the underlying anatomy and can be customized based on a patient’s anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition they want to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.
Results vary by patient and depend on individual anatomy, skin quality, and treatment plan.
