A softer jawline doesn’t always call for surgery. FaceTite, a radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis device by InMode, can sharpen the jawline and neck through two small access points instead of a long incision. For patients in their late 30s to early 60s with mild to moderate skin laxity and small pockets of submental fat, it’s one of the strongest non-excisional options in aesthetic medicine right now.
FaceTite uses bipolar radiofrequency energy. A thin probe goes under the skin through a 1 to 2 mm access point, an external electrode sits on the surface, and RF energy travels between the two. That energy does three things at once. It melts small fat deposits so they can be suctioned out, contracts the fibrous tissue between fat and skin, and triggers collagen remodeling that keeps refining the contour for months after the procedure.
That last part matters. Most non-surgical “tightening” devices work from the outside in and lose energy before they reach the deeper layers where laxity actually lives. FaceTite delivers the energy directly into those layers. The FDA cleared the system through InMode’s 510(k) pathway, and it’s been in clinical use long enough now that we have real data, not just marketing claims.
A 2024 paper in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery followed 80 patients who had FaceTite paired with neck liposuction and reported an average 23 mm reduction in submental length (the distance from the chin to the front of the neck) at six months. That’s not a small change. You see it in profile photos within a few weeks, and the result keeps refining through month nine.
Here’s where I’ll push back on something the industry repeats without questioning. Every other clinic page I’ve reviewed in this space frames FaceTite as a “middle ground between fillers and a facelift.” That framing isn’t quite right. The better way to think about it is this. FaceTite is the right call when your bone structure is good but your skin and submental fat are starting to misbehave. It does not replace a facelift for someone with significant platysmal banding or heavy jowls.
I’ve seen this play out across hundreds of consultations. The patient who walks in pinching the skin under their chin saying “I just want this gone” is usually a strong candidate. The patient who pulls their lower face back toward their ears to show what they want is asking for a facelift, and FaceTite alone won’t get them there.

FaceTite at Formation runs under local anesthesia with oral sedation in most cases. The treatment area gets numbed, two small entry points (one tucked behind each earlobe, sometimes a third under the chin) are created, and the probe moves in controlled passes through the fat layer.
The device monitors skin surface temperature in real time and shuts off if the reading climbs too high. That safety mechanism separates RF-assisted lipolysis from older laser-based methods. Internal tissue reaches roughly 65 to 70 degrees Celsius, the temperature range where collagen contracts and new collagen starts forming.
Total chair time for a jawline and neck case usually runs 60 to 90 minutes. You go home the same day in a chin compression garment, worn around the clock for 3 to 5 days, then at night for another week or two.
Most patients are back to desk work within 2 to 4 days. Bruising and swelling peak around day 3 and fade by the end of week 2 for most people. You’ll catch the early shape change once the swelling settles, usually around week 3. Collagen remodeling takes longer.
A few honest timing notes from what I’ve seen with our Tampa patients:
If anyone tells you the final result is visible at one month, they’re either rushing the consultation or selling you a different procedure. Skin remodeling is a months-long process.
The honest answer on alternatives depends on what’s driving the loss of definition.
If the problem is mostly fat under the chin with decent skin tone, neck liposuction alone may do the job. FaceTite adds the tightening step that liposuction can’t, which is why pairing the two has the strongest published evidence behind it.
If the problem is mostly skin laxity along the jawline with minimal fat, a thread lift or a neck lift may serve you better. Threads are temporary (12 to 18 months). A neck lift is permanent in the structural sense and involves real recovery.
If the loss of definition is bone-related (a recessed chin or weak jaw angle), no skin-tightening device fixes it. That’s a jawline filler conversation, or in some cases a structural surgical referral to our plastic surgeon.
Most patients we see at Formation end up with FaceTite plus submental liposuction in the same session. That combination handles both layers, the fat above the platysma and the skin holding it all in, and it’s the protocol with the strongest evidence behind it.
This is where photos beat words. Plan to see a sharper jawline angle, a clearer line between the jaw and neck, less submental fullness, and a tighter look along the upper neck. The change is structural, not surface-level, so it photographs well from a profile angle (the one most patients care about most).
It is not a facelift. The cheek-and-jowl movement a facelift produces isn’t part of the FaceTite result. If you go in expecting a facelift, you’ll feel underwhelmed even with an objectively good outcome.
The Aesthetic Society tracks non-surgical fat reduction and skin tightening as two of the fastest-growing categories in aesthetic medicine over the past five years, which lines up with what we see in clinic. More patients want jawline improvement without the recovery of a lift.
UV exposure and an outdoor lifestyle accelerate collagen loss along the jawline faster than in cooler climates. The patients we consult with at our Tampa practice are often a few years younger than the textbook FaceTite candidate, because photoaging has caught up to them sooner.
If you’re planning around a specific event or season, work backward from the date. Six weeks gets most of the social downtime done. Three to four months gets you a result that photographs cleanly. Six months and beyond is where the procedure really sells itself.

Strong candidates are typically 35 to 65 with mild to moderate skin laxity, visible submental fullness, and skin that still has some elasticity in the pinch-and-release test. Patients with heavy skin redundancy or pronounced platysmal banding usually do better with a surgical neck lift.
