Can Botox fix hooded eyes? Sometimes. If your hood comes from a low, heavy brow, a few small injections can lift it a little and open up the eye. If the hood comes from extra skin sitting on the lid, Botox won’t do a thing for it. I’m Jeff Atlas, and I do the injectable work at Formation in Tampa. Here’s the real answer, minus the marketing.
A Botox brow lift for hooded eyes works by relaxing the small muscles that pull the brow down. With those muscles quiet, the forehead muscle wins the tug-of-war and lifts the brow on its own. The change is small, usually a millimeter or two, and it wears off in about three to four months.
That’s the whole idea. The rest comes down to who it helps and who it fools.
A hooded eye means the skin between your brow and lash line droops far enough to cover part of the lid. Two very different things cause it.
The first is your brow sitting low. Muscles around the eye constantly fight over brow position. Some pull up, some pull down. When the down-pullers win, the brow sinks and the eye looks hooded even when your skin is fine.
The second is loose skin on the lid itself. Genetics, sun, and time thin the skin out until it folds over. This is the one people get wrong most often.
Plenty of people have a mix of both, and the balance between them decides everything about your options. The reason the question comes up so much is simple. Injectables are the top nonsurgical treatment in the country, with roughly 9.9 million treatments in 2024, up 4 percent in a single year. When something is that popular, people start hoping it fixes everything. It doesn’t.
No, and this matters. Ptosis is a true droop of the eyelid itself, usually from a weak or stretched muscle inside the lid. A hooded eye is skin or brow position hanging over a normal lid.
Botox can lift the brow slightly and help a mild hood. It cannot fix real ptosis. If your lid edge sits low and covers your pupil, that’s a medical issue, and you need a doctor to look at it, not a wrinkle relaxer.
Yes, but only for one type of hooding. If a low brow is the problem, relaxing the brow depressors gives you a measurable lift, with one study measuring close to 5 millimeters at the outer brow. That’s enough to make eyes look more open and rested.
If loose lid skin is the problem, Botox does nothing. You can inject it every few months for a year and the skin will still be there.
Most articles online say “Botox fixes hooded eyes” and stop there. That’s lazy. The truthful version is longer: Botox helps the outer, brow-driven kind of hooding, in the right person, for a few months at a time.
Botox is a purified protein that blocks the nerve signal to a muscle, so that muscle relaxes for a while. For a Botox eyebrow lift, I place a few tiny doses into the muscles that drag the outer brow down.
Once those relax, the forehead muscle lifts the brow without fighting anything. Ten to twenty units total usually does it, far less than a full forehead treatment. Using less product near the eye is safer, because a smaller, well-placed dose is easier to control. The skill is all in placement. Put it in the wrong spot and you can drop the brow instead of lifting it, which is the opposite of what you came in for.
That’s why I map every face before I touch it. No two brows pull the same way.
The visit is short and low-drama. Here’s the order it goes in:
People always ask what it feels like as the product kicks in. Honest answer: you mostly don’t feel it. Over a few days the muscles ease off and the brow settles into its new spot.
Skip a hard workout, lying flat, or rubbing the area for the first several hours. That keeps the product where I put it.
Plan on three to four months. The muscles slowly wake back up, the brow drifts down, and you’re back where you started. Some newer, longer-acting formulas stretch that a little further, but three to four months is the honest baseline.
To keep the look, you come back two or three times a year. That’s the trade-off with any injectable. Anyone staying on it should understand the long-term effects before committing to years of upkeep.
There’s no permanent version of this. Anyone promising a forever brow lift from a syringe is selling you something.
The common side effects are minor: a little redness, a small bruise, mild swelling for a day or two. The eye area bruises easily because it has a lot of tiny blood vessels, so a bruise now and then is normal, not a red flag.
The one that matters is a drooped lid. If product lands in the wrong muscle, it can weaken the lid lifter and cause a temporary droop. Clinical reviews put that risk around 2.5 percent overall. Here’s the part that should shape your choice: it drops under 1 percent with experienced hands and climbs toward 5 percent with untrained ones.
That gap is the whole ballgame. Choosing an experienced injector who knows the muscles around the eye is the single biggest thing you control. A droop, if it happens, fades in a few weeks, but a few weeks of a lopsided face is a real cost. At Formation I do all the injections, and Dr. Gopal Grandhige, our board-certified surgeon, leads the medical oversight. He doesn’t perform injections himself, so you always know who’s holding the needle.
If your hood is loose skin, injectables are the wrong tool, full stop. This is where I watch people waste the most money. Not on a bad result, but on paying for a small lift every few months for years when the real problem is skin that only tightening or surgery removes.
Actually, let me put that better. It’s not that they waste money on Botox. It’s that they never got told what was causing the hood in the first place. So they treat the wrong thing.
For loose lid or brow skin, other options make more sense. An energy-based brow lift tightens skin instead of relaxing muscle. For heavier skin, eyelid surgery removes it for good, and it stayed one of the most common facial surgeries in 2024 for a reason. This article isn’t about that surgery. I don’t perform it, and it’s a different kind of fix. But you should know it exists before you commit to a lifetime of injections.
Do the mirror test before you book anything. Look straight ahead, then use a finger to gently lift the tail of your brow up about a centimeter. If your eye opens up and looks better, brow position is your issue and Botox may help. If lifting the brow does nothing because skin still folds over the lid, Botox won’t fix it.
Almost nobody does this simple check before paying for treatment. It takes ten seconds and tells you most of what you need to know.
The best candidates tend to be people with mild, brow-driven hooding and skin that still has decent spring to it, which usually means younger patients. That’s also where the numbers are strongest. In one controlled trial, about 97 percent of patients were happy with their brow-lift result. Satisfaction drops fast when there’s a lot of loose skin, because the tool was never built for that job.
So, can Botox fix hooded eyes? For the brow-driven kind, yes, it can open the eye by a millimeter or two for three to four months. For loose-skin hooding, no. The smartest move you can make is figuring out which type you have before you spend a dollar, and picking someone who knows the difference. Do the mirror test, come in for a straight answer, and we’ll point you to the right fix even if that fix isn’t a syringe.
No. Botox only helps hooding driven by a low brow position. It relaxes the muscles that pull the brow down so it lifts a little. Loose skin on the lid needs skin tightening or surgery, not an injectable.
Usually one to two millimeters at the center and more at the outer brow, with one study measuring close to 5 millimeters at the tail. It's a subtle, open-eye change, not a dramatic one, and it looks most natural in mild cases.
About three to four months. After that the muscles regain strength and the brow returns to where it started. Keeping the result means coming back two to three times a year.
Yes, if the product is placed poorly. Weakening the wrong muscle can drop the brow or the lid instead of lifting it. The temporary droop risk sits around 2.5 percent overall, under 1 percent with an experienced injector and near 5 percent with an untrained one.
Try the mirror test. Lift the tail of your brow up about a centimeter with a finger. If your eye opens and looks better, brow position is likely your issue and Botox may help. If skin still folds over the lid, it won't.
Using Botox to lift the brow is an off-label use, meaning it is not a specific approved indication even though injectors have done it for years. That's one more reason to choose someone with real experience around the eye.
For most healthy adults, yes. Injectables are the most-requested nonsurgical treatment in the country, with about 9.9 million treatments in 2024. Side effects are usually minor, like brief redness or a small bruise, and serious problems are rare in trained hands.
The last one got 11/10.
Some of the biggest factors affecting liposuction results have nothing to do with what happens in the operating room.
Dr. Gopal rates 13 factors that can influence the final result, from working out before surgery and maintaining a stable weight to compression garments, skin elasticity, and lymphatic massage.
A few of his ratings might surprise you.
For example, he rates skin elasticity a 10/10 because even after the fat is removed, the skin still needs to contract and settle over the new contour.
And lymphatic massage? He gives it an 11/10 because of the role it plays in his recovery protocol, helping manage swelling and supporting how the skin settles over the newly sculpted areas.
The takeaway: great liposuction results depend on more than the surgery itself.
Patient preparation, anatomy, recovery, and long-term weight maintenance all play a role.

Six to seven hours.
That’s how long an HD liposuction procedure can take with Dr. Gopal’s approach.
He’s not simply removing fat. He’s evaluating every square inch, considering the underlying anatomy, and shaping how each contour transitions into the next.
It’s detailed, physically demanding work.
So when Dr. Gopal says, “Someone’s gotta sweat for the fat to come off,” he means it.

Will neck lipo give you the jawline you want?
It depends…
Someone can have fullness under the chin and assume the answer is neck liposuction. But what looks like “fat” from the outside can actually come from several different structures.
Some fat sits directly beneath the skin and can respond very well to liposuction.
But fullness can also come from deeper fat beneath the platysma, the salivary glands under the jaw, muscles under the chin, or even the natural projection of the chin and jaw itself.
That distinction can completely change what neck liposuction can realistically accomplish.
This is why evaluating the anatomy matters before deciding on a procedure.
For the right anatomy, neck liposuction can create a significant change in the neck and jawline.
But when deeper structures are contributing to the fullness, liposuction alone may not create the contour someone is expecting.
A good neck lipo consultation should figure that out first.

Want more definition than workouts gave you?
Traditional liposuction focuses primarily on removing fat. HD liposuction goes further. It requires understanding the underlying muscle anatomy, where to remove fat, where to preserve it, and how each contour works together to create natural-looking definition.
That’s the art of it. The goal isn’t to give every patient the same abs or the same body. It’s to work with the anatomy that’s already there and determine how much definition will look right for that individual.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in high-definition liposuction and advanced body contouring, using nearly two decades of surgical experience to create results that look sculpted, athletic, and intentional.

Defined abs with HD liposuction.
Unlike traditional liposuction, where the primary goal is removing excess fat, HD liposuction is about strategically removing fat to reveal and enhance the underlying muscle structure.
Those markings you see before surgery help Dr. Gopal map out the patient’s anatomy and plan where to remove fat and where to preserve it to create more visible definition.
The second clip was taken immediately after surgery, so this is not the final result. Swelling and bruising will change significantly as the body heals and the final contour develops over the months that follow.

Skin quality changes everything.
Neck liposuction can create a more defined jawline and neck contour by removing unwanted fat, but the result also depends heavily on skin quality and elasticity.
When skin has good elasticity, neck lipo alone may be enough for the skin to contract around the new contour. With some skin laxity, Dr. Gopal may combine liposuction with a skin-tightening treatment such as Renuvion or FaceTite. With significant laxity, a neck lift may be the more appropriate option.
That’s why evaluating the skin is an important part of determining the right approach before neck liposuction.

Liposuction can change more than the body.
I’ve watched patients become more confident, make changes in their careers, show up differently in their relationships, and start making different choices for themselves.
That’s when I know I’ve done my job well.
Because high-definition liposuction isn’t only about creating a leaner, more defined physique. Sometimes the physical transformation becomes the catalyst for changes that reach far beyond the operating room.

Male liposuction requires a different approach.
The contours that create a more feminine shape aren’t necessarily the same ones that create a strong, athletic male physique.
With male high-definition liposuction, Dr. Gopal considers how the chest, abdomen, waist, ribs and back work together—and how the underlying muscle anatomy should guide where definition and shadow are created.
That’s also why the chest matters. A highly defined abdomen and back paired with a rounder, less-defined chest can make the overall result feel out of proportion.
The goal is a cohesive, athletic contour that works with the patient’s natural anatomy.

Choosing a liposuction surgeon isn’t just about looking at before-and-afters.
Liposuction isn’t simply about removing fat. Decisions around how much to remove, which areas to treat, skin quality, post-op care and recovery can all influence the approach to your result.
How a surgeon answers these questions can tell you a lot about how they think, plan and care for their patients.

6 months post high-definition liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal wasn’t just less fat. It was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
High-definition liposuction strategically sculpts around the underlying anatomy and can be customized based on a patient’s anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition they want to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.
Results vary by patient and depend on individual anatomy, skin quality, and treatment plan.
