FaceTite is a minimally invasive facial contouring procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten loose skin and reduce small pockets of fat in the lower face, jawline, and neck. It sits between a surgical facelift and a surface-level skin tightening treatment. And for a growing number of patients in Tampa (especially those who aren’t ready for surgery), it’s become one of the most-requested procedures on our calendar at Formation.
FaceTite delivers roughly 50–70% of what a traditional facelift can accomplish, according to surgeon consensus and published RF-assisted contouring data. That range matters. It means FaceTite works extremely well for the right patient and falls short for the wrong one. Most of the disappointment I’ve seen comes from mismatched expectations, not the technology itself. If you’re wondering whether FaceTite counts as surgery, the short answer is no, but it’s more involved than most non-invasive options.
This article won’t cover surgical facelifts, deep plane techniques, or surface-only treatments like Ultherapy (we’ve done a full FaceTite vs. Ultherapy comparison separately). We’re staying focused on FaceTite: who it’s for, what it actually does to your tissue, and how to avoid the most common mistakes patients make when choosing this procedure.
FaceTite uses a bipolar radiofrequency device with two components. A thin internal cannula goes beneath the skin through a tiny incision, while an external electrode sits on the surface. RF energy passes between the two, heating the tissue from the inside out.
That internal heating does three things simultaneously. It coagulates small fat deposits (which is why your jawline or neck looks slimmer afterward). It contracts the fibroseptal network, which is the web of connective tissue that holds skin structure together. And it heats the deep dermal layer enough to trigger new collagen production that continues for months after the procedure.
The collagen piece is what most patients underestimate. Your results at two weeks aren’t your final results. Full improvement typically shows up between 3 and 12 months as new collagen fibers build density and tighten the skin further. A 2024 study on RF-assisted neck contouring found 94% patient satisfaction at six months, up from just 22% before the procedure.
This is where most content about FaceTite gets it wrong. You’ll see articles claiming it’s “right for anyone who wants a younger look.” That’s not true, and it sets patients up for disappointment.
FaceTite works best for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity. If you’re in your late 30s through mid-50s, you’ve noticed some softening along your jawline, maybe early jowling or a bit of fullness under your chin, and your skin still has decent elasticity, you’re likely in the sweet spot. Women make up about 90% of aesthetic procedure patients overall, but we see a growing number of men at Formation asking about jawline contouring to sharpen their profile.
If you have significant skin laxity, deep jowls, or heavy neck banding, FaceTite alone probably won’t get you where you want to be. I’ve seen patients push for FaceTite when they really need a surgical lift, and the results are disappointing for everyone involved. A good surgeon will tell you that upfront. If you’re curious about where you fall, our candidacy breakdown covers the specific criteria.
One newer angle worth mentioning: patients on GLP-1 medications (the weight loss drugs that have become extremely common) are showing up with a specific pattern of facial volume loss and skin laxity that responds well to FaceTite. The ASPS noted post-weight-loss skin tightening as a growing demand driver in their 2024 report, and we’re seeing that firsthand in Tampa.
Be honest with yourself here. FaceTite isn’t a facelift. It won’t give you the same level of correction, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling.
What it will do: slim your lower face by reducing submental fat (the fat under your chin), tighten mild to moderate jowling, and improve overall skin quality along the jawline and neck. For patients specifically looking to address double chin fullness and wondering whether jaw contouring is worth it, FaceTite is one of the stronger non-surgical options available. Most patients see noticeable improvement within the first few weeks, but the full picture develops over 6–12 months as collagen remodels.
Results typically last 3–5 years with proper skin care and stable weight. Compare that to a surgical facelift, which can last 10 years or more. FaceTite is a bridge, not a permanent solution.
Here’s the contrarian take most providers won’t give you: outcomes are heavily operator-dependent. The same device in two different hands produces noticeably different results. Published data shows contraction rates vary significantly based on technique, energy settings, and how thoroughly the provider works each treatment zone. This isn’t like a laser facial where the machine does most of the work. Your surgeon’s skill level and experience with RF-assisted procedures are the single biggest variable.
Recovery is one of the real advantages of FaceTite over surgery. Most patients schedule it in the office under local anesthesia. The whole thing takes about 60–90 minutes depending on the treatment area.
You’ll wear a compression dressing for a few days afterward. Most people can get back to desk work within 3–5 days. Swelling and mild bruising are normal and typically resolve within the first week or two. Patients dealing with turkey neck concerns often find the recovery trade-off worthwhile since the alternative is a more involved surgical neck lift with weeks of downtime.
“Minimally invasive” doesn’t mean “no recovery,” though. I’ve seen patients book FaceTite on a Thursday expecting to attend a wedding Saturday. Don’t do that. Plan for at least a full week before any event where you need to look your best, and know that subtle swelling can linger for several weeks even after visible bruising fades.
The 2024 study mentioned earlier reported a low complication rate overall, with about 5% of patients experiencing temporary changes in skin sensation that resolved on their own. Serious complications are rare but real, which loops back to why provider selection matters so much.
No. And this is probably the most repeated misconception in aesthetic marketing right now.
FaceTite is not a “non-surgical facelift.” That phrase gets thrown around because it sounds good in ads, but it creates unrealistic expectations. A facelift surgically repositions tissue, removes excess skin, and tightens the underlying muscular layer. FaceTite contracts tissue from below using RF energy and reduces small fat deposits. Different mechanisms, different results.
Where FaceTite shines is as an option for patients who aren’t ready for surgery or don’t need that level of correction yet. It’s also popular as a maintenance procedure. Some patients get FaceTite in their 40s, buy themselves several years, and then decide whether they want surgery later. That’s a smart approach.
For patients who do opt for a surgical neck or face lift, FaceTite works well as an add-on. Dr. Grandhige sometimes uses it during neck contouring procedures at Formation to create additional tightening in zones where RF energy complements what surgery achieves on its own. It’s one of the tools in the kit, not a replacement for the whole toolbox.
This is the section most FaceTite articles skip, and it’s arguably the most important one.
ASPS data from 2024 shows the broader cosmetic surgery market growing steadily, with minimally invasive procedures outpacing surgical ones (3% growth vs. 1%). That growth means more providers are offering FaceTite, including some with limited experience using the device.
Board certification matters. Training matters. Volume matters. A provider who performs RF-assisted contouring regularly will understand tissue response patterns, know when to increase or decrease energy, and recognize anatomical variations that change the treatment plan. A provider who performs it occasionally may get acceptable results but is less likely to push for the best outcome.
Questions to ask during your consultation: How many FaceTite procedures have you done in the last year? What percentage contraction do you typically see in patients with skin laxity similar to mine? Would you recommend combining this with something else? And (the question nobody thinks to ask) what’s your revision rate?
At Formation, Dr. Grandhige evaluates each patient’s skin quality, fat distribution, and degree of laxity before recommending FaceTite. Sometimes the recommendation is a different procedure entirely, like PDO threads for skin tightening or surgical intervention. That kind of honesty protects both the patient and the result.
Florida specifically has tightened regulations around office-based procedures. HB 1561 (passed in 2024) increased financial responsibility requirements and set new limits on what can be done in an office setting versus an accredited surgical center. If your provider can’t explain how those rules apply to your procedure, that’s a red flag.
We rarely perform FaceTite in complete isolation at Formation. The best results usually come from combining it with complementary treatments.
FaceTite paired with RF microneedling is one of the most common combinations. FaceTite handles deeper tissue contraction and fat reduction, while RF microneedling addresses surface texture, fine lines, and pore size. Together they cover more ground than either treatment alone.
For patients with more localized fat deposits in the neck, combining FaceTite with neck liposuction can produce a dramatically cleaner profile. And for those interested in the technology behind FaceTite specifically, we’ve covered the engineering in detail separately.
The point is that FaceTite is a tool. A very good one when used correctly, by the right provider, for the right patient. But the best outcomes come from a treatment plan built around your specific anatomy, not from picking a single procedure because you saw it on social media.
Deciding on a mommy makeover is a significant choice that requires careful consideration. One of the most crucial factors to evaluate is whether you plan to have more children. While a mommy makeover won’t impact your fertility, future pregnancies can reverse the results, potentially necessitating a secondary procedure. For this reason, many women choose to undergo surgery only after they are certain they won’t be expanding their family.
Yes. Patients experiencing facial volume loss and mild skin laxity after weight loss on GLP-1 medications are often strong FaceTite candidates. A 2024 RF-assisted contouring study showed 94% satisfaction at six months for patients with this type of skin laxity. Most providers recommend combining FaceTite with volume restoration for the best outcome.
Initial improvement shows within the first 2–4 weeks as swelling resolves. But your final results develop over 3–12 months as new collagen builds and continues tightening the skin. Most patients see peak results around the 6-month mark.
No. FaceTite contracts tissue using RF energy and reduces small fat deposits. A facelift surgically repositions tissue and removes excess skin. FaceTite produces roughly 50–70% of facelift-level correction for ideal candidates, but the mechanisms and longevity are different.
FaceTite is effective at reducing mild to moderate submental fat (the fat under the chin) and tightening the overlying skin. For patients with heavier fat deposits, combining FaceTite with liposuction produces better results. About 90% of aesthetic patients are women, but men increasingly seek jawline contouring for double chin correction.
Most patients maintain their results for 3–5 years with stable weight and consistent skin care. A surgical facelift lasts 10+ years by comparison. Some patients use FaceTite as a bridge, getting the procedure in their 40s and evaluating surgical options later.
FaceTite is performed under local anesthesia, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Most patients report mild soreness and tightness for a few days afterward. Temporary changes in skin sensation occur in roughly 5% of patients but resolve on their own.
FaceTite uses internal and external bipolar RF energy delivered through a tiny incision, which allows it to address both fat and skin laxity. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound from the surface with no incisions. FaceTite produces more dramatic tightening and can reduce fat.
Facial Harmonization Step 2
It takes more than one treatment and often more than one treatment session to accomplish facial harmony and balance.
Here’s a look at step 2 in the journey for our surgical coordinator Hanna.
She wanted to address asymmetry and fullness in the lower face. To accomplish this we’ve started with Botox in the masseter to slim the jaw, and create a more feminine, heart shaped face. Now for step 2 we’re placing PDO lifting threads to enhance definition around the jawline without adding volume.

The power of a profile transformation. 🔥
For this patient, we combined PDO Lifting Threads and advanced chin/jawline filler to completely redefine his lower face. By strategically lifting the mid-to-lower face and sculpting the jaw, we didn’t just enhance one feature—we elevated his entire facial appearance.
An incredible, natural-looking result that brings balance and confidence from every angle.
Note: Minor bunching or puckering is completely normal immediately following a PDO thread lift. The slight bunching visible in the after photo will fully subside on its own over the next 2-4 weeks as the threads settle.
