Formation performs high-definition liposuction, male chest and torso contouring, tummy tuck, and neck and jawline definition, on South Howard Avenue in Tampa, about 25 miles south of Land O’ Lakes. One surgeon plans your case, performs it, and is still following it twelve months later. Most patients from this part of Pasco County drive down, have surgery, and sleep in their own bed the same night.
A search like this one usually starts with a map, and the map is the wrong first filter. Aesthetic medicine splits into two categories that advertise almost identically and are not remotely alike underneath. Non-surgical treatment runs in an office. Surgical body contouring runs in a licensed surgical setting, under anesthesia, with a separate set of state requirements attached to the building itself. Working out which category your goal actually sits in will do more for your result than shaving fifteen minutes off a drive.
On the surgical side, Formation is built around one surgeon rather than a rotation. Dr. Gopal Grandhige is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in aesthetic surgery, with more than fifteen years of operating and several thousand cases behind him. He does the evaluation, designs the plan, performs the operation and runs the follow-up, and surgical volume is capped on purpose so that stays possible. His certification is checkable in about two minutes through the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Ahmad Saad, a board-certified plastic surgeon, is also on the surgical team.
The training behind that is unusual for aesthetics. Medical school at the University of Michigan, a full general surgery residency, then fellowships in burn surgery, critical care, and minimally invasive metabolic and foregut surgery. Burn and critical care work teaches a surgeon to think in tissue behavior, inflammation and healing biology rather than surface technique. It shows up in how a contour gets planned to look in year three instead of at the six-week photo, and it is why male and athletic contouring became this practice’s strongest work.
The abdomen can be one of the most stubborn areas to change, even with consistent diet and exercise.
For this patient, HD liposuction addressed the persistent abdominal fullness while creating more definition through the waist and midsection.
At 10 months post-op, you can see how much that one area affected the proportions of her entire torso.
If you’re dealing with stubborn abdominal fat despite diet and exercise, schedule a consultation with Dr. Gopal at Formation Tampa to learn whether liposuction may be appropriate for you.

Many surgeons abandon this lipo technique because it’s so physically demanding.
The approach to HD liposuction Dr. Gopal uses requires an extraordinary level of detail and precision.
Rather than simply etching lines, every contour and transition is shaped around the patient’s underlying anatomy, a process that can take several hours.
Dr. Gopal trained in this technique in Barcelona with one of the world’s leaders in HD liposuction and now teaches it to other physicians. It’s a demanding approach, but that level of precision is what allows for definition that looks natural to the individual.

“Glad I took my time researching.”
That line matters.
Choosing to have plastic surgery isn’t just about deciding you want a change. It’s about deciding who you trust to understand the result you’re looking for, especially when the goal isn’t simply removing fat, but creating a shape that still looks natural to you.
For our lovely patient, that meant a tighter stomach and waist, feeling more comfortable in fitted clothing, and most importantly, getting the result she wanted “without looking fake.”
That’s the goal of thoughtful body contouring: not to make you look like someone else, but to create a result that works with your body and your goals.

More definition doesn’t automatically mean a better liposuction result.
The goal of body contouring is to create definition that makes sense for your anatomy, not to create the most sculpted abdomen possible simply because we can.
Low-, medium-, and high-definition liposuction can create very different looks, from subtle contouring to a more athletic or highly sculpted appearance.
The right level depends on your existing muscle definition, proportions, surrounding areas of the body, and the result you want to achieve.
For Dr. Gopal Grandhige, a board-certified surgeon specializing in body contouring and high-definition liposuction in Tampa, the goal is balance: the abdomen, chest, back, arms and shoulders should look like they belong to the same body.
The result should feel cohesive, proportional, and natural to your anatomy.

One of the biggest misconceptions about liposuction? That the fat either “comes back” or simply moves somewhere else.
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated area. But it doesn’t remove every fat cell, and the cells that remain can still grow larger with weight gain.
That’s why long-term results aren’t just about what happens during the procedure. Maintaining a relatively stable weight helps preserve the contour created through liposuction.
Dr. Gopal Grandhige specializes in advanced high definition liposuction and body contouring, with an emphasis on creating results that complement each patient’s natural anatomy.

6 months post HD liposuction with moderate definition.
The goal was a leaner, more athletic contour with visible definition through the abdomen and torso, without pushing the result to the highest level of definition.
HD liposuction can be customized based on anatomy, muscle structure, and the degree of definition someone wants to achieve.
For this patient, moderate definition created the balance Dr. Gopal was looking for.

These lipo terms aren’t interchangeable.
Traditional liposuction, Lipo 360, and high-definition liposuction can all address unwanted fat, but the approach depends on what you’re actually trying to change.
Maybe it’s one stubborn area that hasn’t responded to diet and exercise.
Maybe the goal is creating better proportion throughout the entire midsection.
Or maybe you’re already lean and looking for more visible, athletic definition.
Those are different goals, and they call for different treatment plans.

Each treatment plan starts with your anatomy, your current body composition, and the result you want to achieve.

“I just want to look like me, but fitter.” — Mission accomplished. 🙌
Here is an incredible 3-month update for our patient following a circumferential body lift with liposculpting.
By addressing excess skin 360 degrees around the beltline while strategically sculpting the chest, shoulders, and abdomen, we achieved a smooth, athletic frame without sacrificing a natural appearance. He looks leaner, stronger, and completely redefined.

Formation is at 1315 South Howard Avenue. The usual route from Land O’ Lakes is State Road 54 to the Suncoast Parkway, south as it becomes the Veterans Expressway, then east into Hyde Park. Dale Mabry straight down is the surface alternative. Budget forty minutes outside peak, and more when SR 54 stacks up at the parkway interchange.
The number that matters is not the drive time. It is how many times you make the drive. Surgery is one day. The relationship runs twelve months, and month one is the dense stretch: lymphatic treatment begins at your first post-operative visit, garments get checked in person, and a fluid collection gets drained in the office at the visit where it appears. Patients flying in from Miami, Orlando, Naples, Sarasota or Atlanta stay in hotels near the practice, and Dr. Grandhige visits them in their rooms during the early days rather than making them come in. At forty minutes you skip that arrangement and heal at home.
Sort out transport before surgery day rather than after it. In week one after body work you are not driving yourself down the Veterans, and the visits in that stretch are not the optional kind.
This is for people already at or near goal weight who train and eat well and still carry a layer that blurs definition. That fat is frequently genetically resistant, and dieting hard enough to move it costs muscle and starts the yo-yo cycle. Dr. Grandhige approaches high-definition liposuction as sculpture rather than removal, so the contour reads athletic in motion and not only in a still photo. One patient arrived training hard and eating clean, frustrated that his abdominal and flank definition never matched the effort he was putting in. The plan was deliberately conservative, and afterward nobody around him read it as surgery. Over-etching is the specific failure being designed against.
Male contouring is a separate skill rather than a variation on the same one. Chest, abdomen and flank have to resolve into a single masculine line, and errors that would pass elsewhere read immediately as over-done. The target for the chest is clean and flat, without the saucer deformity that follows taking too much tissue. Gynecomastia surgery is frequently combined with torso sculpting when that produces a better overall line than treating the chest in isolation.
Fat and mild laxity under the chin make people look heavier, older or more tired than they feel, even when the rest of the body is fit. Neck and jawline contouring runs in the office under an oral sedative and local anesthetic, through small incisions under the chin and behind the ears. Renuvion, a helium plasma device, or FaceTite, a radiofrequency device, then tightens the skin over the muscle and bone underneath. Patients are back at work at about one week with the chin garment on, which makes this the easiest procedure here to schedule around a job.
A tummy tuck addresses what liposuction cannot reach: loose or damaged skin, abdominal muscles separated by diastasis recti, and lost core integrity after pregnancy or major weight change. Repairing the muscle often improves posture and comfort alongside shape. Lipo360 treats abdomen, flanks and back in a single session so the result resolves all the way around rather than in front only. Dr. Grandhige performs the excisional work himself, including advanced cases, 360 contouring, lower body lift, and revisions of contours done badly elsewhere.
Roughly 60 percent of your result comes from the operation. The other 40 comes from what happens afterward, which is why Formation keeps post-operative care in house instead of handing you a garment and a phone number. Most of the disappointment in this field gets generated weeks after the operating room rather than inside it.
Plans get built from skeletal structure, fat quality and distribution, skin elasticity, training history, and how the treated area is likely to age. The room does not rotate. Same anesthesia provider on every case, the same nurses and surgical technologists, and Dr. Grandhige’s own employed physician assistant, who assists on all of his surgeries. Surgical cases run in a facility holding QUAD A accreditation, the body that accredits office-based and ambulatory surgical settings. Nobody learns your surgeon’s preferences on your case.
Recovery here is scheduled rather than suggested, and that schedule is the real reason the drive matters. Body patients are walking within the first 48 to 72 hours and stay in compression through week four. Neck and jawline patients wear a chin garment twelve to twenty-four hours a day. Lymphatic treatment starts at the first post-operative visit with providers Dr. Grandhige has vetted personally, and the purpose is preventing fluid collections rather than chasing them afterward. You leave with a protein target set to your body weight and procedure, guidance on holding inflammation down through the swelling window, and a return to activity written as gates rather than dates.
The front end is the part almost nobody bothers with. Health and diet get assessed before treatment, and nutrition, supplements and peptides get adjusted in the window immediately before and immediately after, so the body builds as much structure as it can while it heals. That is what the Formation philosophy means by calling recovery a clinical phase. The device on the tray is the same one any practice in Tampa can buy. The thinking around it is not.
Florida regulates this work by setting rather than by signage, and almost no clinic page explains what that means for a patient. It matters more than usual when you are weighing a nearby office against a surgical facility a county away. Run the Formation Office-Surgery Check before booking anywhere, this practice included.
Which of the three settings applies. A registered physician office, an accredited ambulatory surgical facility and a hospital sit on three separate oversight paths. Formation’s surgical cases run in a QUAD A accredited ambulatory facility built for elective surgery, and neck and jawline work runs in the office. Ask which one applies to your specific case, because an unclear answer here is itself the answer.
The planned volume against the legal ceiling. Florida caps liposuction at 4,000 cubic centimeters of supernatant fat in an office setting, and the ceiling drops to 1,000 when it is combined with abdominoplasty or performed alongside another procedure. Elective cosmetic procedures combined in an office are also time-limited. Ask how much is planned and whether the setting is registered for it.
Registration, checked at the right address. Offices above the 1,000 cubic centimeter threshold, or performing Level II or Level III surgery, must register with the state, pass inspection before approval, and be inspected annually unless nationally accredited. Those requirements are published by the Florida Board of Medicine. Registration attaches to a physical address rather than to a practice name, so check the address where your surgery will actually happen, which is frequently not the address in the website footer. Search any former practice name too.
The written transfer disclosure. For Level II, IIA and III procedures the surgeon has to give you, in writing, the hospital where they hold privileges for that same procedure, or where the facility holds a transfer agreement. If nobody has handed you that page, ask for it.
Then judge the consultation itself. You should leave feeling assessed rather than sold to. A surgeon who asks more questions than you do, states the limits out loud, and is willing to turn you down is doing the job correctly. Read results the same way: consistency and natural proportion rather than extremes, with attention to cases where the before body resembles yours. The before-and-after gallery is built to be read that way.
Two things move the calendar for patients up here, and neither appears on a generic Tampa surgery page.
The first is that a lot of life in this part of Pasco County happens outdoors and on foot. The Suncoast Trail runs the length of the parkway, and the comfortable outdoor months in Florida run roughly October through April. Book in October and you spend the best training weather in a compression garment. Book in May and your heaviest compression weeks land inside a Florida summer, which is unpleasant but gets you back to unrestricted training before the good season turns. Compression through Tampa summer heat is a real scheduling variable and worth choosing deliberately rather than taking whatever date happens to be open.
The second is that the follow-up schedule and the SR 54 commute stack on top of each other in month one. Build the calendar backward from the date that matters to you instead of forward from today.
Neck and jawline contouring: back at work at about one week, fat removal visible at two to four weeks, skin tightening visible at three months, final result at six to nine months. Allow three months minimum before photographs matter.
High-definition liposuction: continuous compression and no work in week one, back in the gym at one to two weeks, unrestricted between weeks two and four with the garment on, definition emerging at six to twelve weeks, final contour at three to six months, pliability and sensation returning through six to twelve months.
Abdominoplasty: a nurse for the first twenty-four hours, back at work at ten to fourteen days, full exercise at six to eight weeks, final shape at three to six months.
Every procedure: add four to eight weeks at the front for consultation and preparation.
Some consultations end with a recommendation to wait, or to fix something else first. That is what a full assessment is for, as opposed to a screening call. Most people who come in are already fit and healthy and dealing with something healthy living cannot fix, like skin laxity. Others are hoping surgery solves a problem surgery does not solve.
For body work, candidacy runs through the Formation Tighten-Or-Remove Line, three checks in order. Recoil: does the skin return toward the body when it is released. The standing fold: does skin hang at rest. The abdominal wall: is there muscle separation. Clear all three and energy tightening is a reasonable finisher. Fail one and the honest answer is excision, whatever a device brochure suggests.
Past that, you are probably not a candidate right now if any of these fit.
You are well above goal weight and hoping liposuction closes the gap. It contours. It does not reduce weight.
Skin elasticity will not carry a neck and jawline result. That procedure works best in a skin age range of roughly twenty-five to fifty-five.
Another pregnancy or a major weight change still sits ahead of your abdominoplasty. Muscle repair and skin removal hold up well, but not through another round of either.
The result you want is more aggressive than your anatomy will hold. Over-resection produces irregularities, laxity, and contours that age badly.
Your date is wrong. A wedding five weeks out and a tummy tuck do not fit on the same calendar.
When the right answer is skin removal or facial surgery beyond what contouring and tightening can reach, and it is not work Dr. Grandhige performs, Formation names a surgeon who does it well and points you there. Some patients spend a year on nutrition, training and health work first, and those cases frequently produce the best results in the practice.
No. Formation operates from a single location at 1315 South Howard Avenue in Tampa, about 25 miles and roughly forty minutes south of Land O' Lakes depending on your route and the hour. Every consultation, procedure and follow-up visit happens there or at the accredited surgical facility used for surgical cases.
Non-surgical treatment and surgical body contouring are different categories with different facility requirements, and they are not interchangeable no matter how similar the marketing looks. Before assuming a nearby provider can handle a surgical case, run the Office-Surgery Check above and confirm the setting is registered for the procedure and the volume being proposed.
More than most people expect, and month one is the heaviest. Expect a consultation, a pre-operative visit, surgery day, then a run of post-operative visits where lymphatic treatment begins, garments get checked, and any fluid collection is drained in the office. After that the cadence spreads out, but the relationship runs a full twelve months. Nearly all Formation patients complete the entire year.
At home, in almost every case. The hotel arrangement exists for patients flying in from out of state, and Dr. Grandhige visits those patients in their rooms during the early days. At forty minutes out you skip that step. What you do need is a driver for week one after body work, and someone at home for the first twenty-four hours after an abdominoplasty, when a nurse is provided.
After high-definition liposuction, back in the gym at one to two weeks and unrestricted between weeks two and four with the garment on. After abdominoplasty, full exercise returns at six to eight weeks. Neck and jawline patients return to normal activity considerably sooner. Every return is gated on how you are actually healing rather than on the calendar alone.
Confirm board certification directly with the certifying board rather than trusting a badge on a website. Check license status and disciplinary history through the state. Confirm which of the three surgical settings your case falls into and whether that address is registered for it. Ask for the written hospital transfer disclosure. All four checks are free.
Yes. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee and is a full surgical assessment, and that fee can be applied toward any procedure or product at the practice. Formation also offers a complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna, who works through your goals and outlines a plan before you commit to the drive.
Yes. Abdominoplasty, 360 contouring, lower body lift and revision cases are all work he performs personally, including advanced cases. Where a patient needs a procedure outside what he performs, Formation refers to a surgeon who does that work well rather than stretching to cover it.
Formation exists for people who want the right operation at the right time rather than the fastest one available. From Land O’ Lakes that means a forty minute drive south, a same-day return home, a capped surgical schedule that keeps one surgeon on your case, and a follow-up relationship that runs a full year instead of stopping at the six-week photo.
There are two ways in. The in-office consultation with Dr. Grandhige carries a fee and is a full surgical assessment: anatomical evaluation, candidacy, an honest read on options and limits, and guidance on timing and recovery, with the fee applied toward any procedure or product at the practice. If you would rather talk before committing to the drive, the complimentary virtual evaluation with patient coordinator Hanna covers your goals and outlines a plan first.
Run the license and registration checks above before you book anything, here or anywhere else. Then come have the conversation.
